I thought this was pretty cool. I started around the 'NBA Live 1995' era with on the Sega Megadrive. Also spent a lot of my younger years on NBA Jam. Looking at the difference from what doesn't even seem like that long ago is pretty amazing. Which of those games have you guys played? Which was the first or best memory? http://bleacherreport.com/articles/1780156-evolution-of-basketball-video-game-graphics
The first game for me was Double Dribble for NES. The next one I remember playing was NBA Live 95 (PC). I think I also owned NBA Live 97 for PC, and NBA Live 2001 for Xbox. I think I got one of the NBA Live games for Xbox 360 as well, but never played it too much. Then I think I also got NBA 2K8 or 2K9. Of all these games, the one I probably spent the most time playing was NBA Live 95.
NBA Live 95-97 for the Genesis was god tier. Until this gen they had the best Dream Shake. NBA Jam back then was the **** too.
1983: One on One: Dr. J vs. Larry Bird for me. Still remember the first time I broke the backboard with Dr J. My cousin and I sat with our mouths open for like 10 minutes lol
^ Came to say this Bird vs. Dr. J was a really special game in the early 80's -- I had it on the C64.
Not a big basketball videogamer. I do have fond memories of playing Hangtime on the N64 when I was younger. I also have NBA Street v3 on Xbox, which was really fun as well.
I have played video basketball games my whole life. Larry Bird vs Dr. J was the pioneer of all basketball games. Loved it. I also played: Larry Bird vs Michael Jordan Lakers vs Celtics (PC) Double Dribble NBA Live 95 and 96 for NES NBA Jam (NES and PS3) Showtime on NBC (Playstation) NBA Hangtime (Nintendo 64) NBA Live 02 (PC) NBA 2K7-14 (PS3)
Wow, so many great memories growing up with all those games. Maybe not the best basketball games, but ones that stood out on the list were the Scottie Pippen game on the Sega CD (very unique and cool) and Barkley's Shut Up and Jam ("Go get the da** ball!" LOL!!!). Played Lakers vs Celtics and that was cool because every team had one superstar with a crazy special move, like Barkley who had a Gorilla Dunk. MJ with his patented free throw line dunk, etc. I used to drive my brother CRAZY playing him on it because I would always pick the Suns and Tom Chambers had this one particular spot at the three point line he would actually dunk from.... couldn't stop it. LOL! But, I had the best time playing all the Inside Drive games on the original XBOX. Loved those games. A lot of those guys ended up going to work with NBA2K and that's when 2K really took off on the current generation.
