I've been meaning to play that game, Suikoden III, but I couldn't ever find anywhere to rent it. I like renting games before buying them. I made a mistake with NBA Live 2002. I really like the other two in the series. Oh well, I have had Xenosaga to keep me busy. As for the awards, they look ok, I guess. I only got to play a demo of BF 1942, I liked it. And all the other games looked good except I hardly played any of them...man, I am behind in games.
I'm waiting for this as well as I hear it will be cheap as crap and play old Xbox games as well. But that was just somethign I heard on G4TV. Is tehre anything confiming this thing and what it can/can't do?
this is what i've read and heard about the "XBOX LITE" Approx. the size of the PS2. Color , white or silver? Media2go enabled May stand verticle Larger Hard drive Prices i've heard $99 to 149. I've also heard something about a PS2.5... I'm going to have to sell my xbox on ebay though soon.
I liked HH2002 much more. HH2003 has no foul balls so pitch counts are really screwy. I know that the did it to speed up the game but I would regularly be in the 9th inning and my starter would have 75 or so pitches. It was so unreal that it was quite frustrating.
I've played both, and trust me. You have a lot more control with the Xbox controller at least with Halo. And the game play is much more controlled with Halo than other FPS's.
I own bf 1942, but theres just something about it that makes it less enjoyable to me. I think it relies too much on vehicles, and the man to man combat seems to be lacking because of this. Also, some players are just so dominant with the airplanes that it ruins the games for others. I'll spawn, and just die after an airplane swoops down and bombs the whole area. It's just a personal preference, but i enjoyed half-life's mod, called day of defeat. No vehicles, just very good man to man combat. bf is lots of fun if you love the vehicles, but i think its a hassle to wait around for a tank to spawn when i could be killing something the old fashioned way, which is just not possible in this game.
I've been meaning to buy that game, but I decided to re-play the first two before I move on to the new one. The first one is awesome, but the second one is lacking in my opinion. How does the third one compare to the previous two? Do they have cameos in it from previous games like in the second one? Suikoden is my 2nd favorite RPG, next to Final Fantasy 3 (American)...
I can field this one... I agree wholeheartedly with you on the fact Suikoden II just isn't the same as the first one. I don't know, I didn't really like the characters (although they had a lot of returning ones) and it just didn't seem as epic. Give me Gremio and Pahn any day of the week. The third one, well, it's got more of a medieval style rather than the oriental one, which I found dissapointing. The old twang in the music of the first two games really can't be found. The story doesn't feel the same to me either. It doesn't feel like there's really a huge war going on, and some of the 'races' like the lizard or duck clans are very prominent and quite dissapointing. There are some returning characters from the second and first game, but they are few and far between. No central characters make a cameo, really. Loose ties and whatnot. The battles are enjoyable and while they don't require alot of strategy, they can be tough sometimes. Also, getting the 108 stars of destiny is insanely easy, unlike the first game. (I mean, how many times did you have to walk inside that inn to get Clive?) It's a fun game, but I wouldn't recommend it, honestly. FFX is easily the better RPG for the PS2. And while I'm on the subject of RPGs, stay away from Xenosaga while you're at it. Blech, sequels are so dissapointing.
Any disappointing aspects of Suikoden 2 are immediately offset by the kickass iron chef cooking game. Best. Mini-Game. Ever.
Just out of curiousity, what was your problem with it? I found it REALLY short and it had A LOT of cutscenes, but other than that, it was pretty good. The story was pretty good, better than most, and there are still 5 more episodes to go to explain. I've heard theories about some of the characters ending up being Deus in Xenogears and their relationships are striking, or something. I know the creators said this would not take place in the same time as Xenogears, but I kind of hope to see a Xenogears-like story around episode 4 or 5. But that is just my opinion.
i thought the bigg gripe people had with suikoden 3 is that most characters (cough cough ViktorandFlik cough cough) do not return. my biggest gripe is no clive. there is a GREAT theatre mini game though. u thought finding 108 stars was easy? the first game i thought was the easiest to get them all. anyway, if you are buying suikoden 3 because you love the suikoden series and expect it to mirror the first two, you will be disappointed. however, if you come into it expecting an rpg, you'll love it. there are some awesome references to the past two games. **SPOILER** luc is the best villian since sephiroth. especially since he fought WITH you the first two games. i just have one question for those who have played this though. if luc has a true rune, meaning he cant age, how come he is about 10-15 years older in this game then in the last? **END SPOILER** i would highly recommend this game, especially because of the lack of good rpg's for the ps2 these days.
Tell me about it. For a while, I had to download a bunch of RPG's made by people on the internet just to get my fix of RPG's. Most of them sucked, but some were ok...especially had the year been 1996 or something. I still need to try Dark Cloud 2 and this game. Luckily, there ARE STILL more RPG's to come so the RPG fan is in good hands. FFX-2, though it seems weird, and Star Ocean 3 are out later this year. Xenosaga and .hack, I think, both have a series going and I would assume they would release a new episode every year or so. Sometimes I get spoiled with how many RPG's the PS2 has. I can't think of too many on other consoles, especially good ones. Zelda and some FF games, Tactics on GBA and some other one I think, are the only ones that come to mind.
To me it felt like a ripoff. I didn't pay sixty bucks to invest 30 hours in a game and then see a big lame "To be continued" at the end after viewing basically a trailer for the next game. Xenogears had a complete and wonderful story, and Xenosaga can't even hold a candle to it. Maybe I had too high of expectations because of Xenogears (Which is said to be the fifth in the six episodes, BTW. Xenosaga is apparently 14,000 years before XG). However, I really felt like I didn't get a whole game. I mean all those characters who had only bit parts yet show in the ending (like the CEO of Vector Industries), if it were XG then we would've had it explained and had it done well. Other problems I have with the game: Where's the music? Geez, it was practially all silence. Didn't like the characters. Only Ziggy and Jr. were bearable (as far as the main characters go.) Shion was just horrible, her voice acting drove me nuts. Plus you couldn't even turn off the subtitles. I was also dissapointed that the anime style left, as it was so prominent in the original. The fighting system is less fun than the original, there are barely any cities to mess around in, I personally don't care for the all-space setting. I miss nature. I miss the creepy church music and the religion plot line. Gears have been reduced to a mere novelty in this game. I really haven't been this dissapointed in an RPG since Crono Cross. (Another sequel, as it turns out.) I actually haven't played any of the Dark Cloud games, are they worth it? It sounds really appealing to me from what I heard, dungeon crawling and town building. Sounds similar to Azure Dreams.
That's ok. I've been reading the Xenosaga message board on GameFAQs and some people liked it and some didn't. Those that didn't gave the same reasons as you. I think it is all preferences and high expectations. However, I'll try to stick up for it. This game, imo, has the difficult job of setting everything up without giving away too much, kind of like an intro of a book. Xenogears, # 5 in its series, seemed to be in the climax of the series, not to mention the team had to put more into it since that was the only game going to be released to make it better. However, as you kind of hinted at, it is VERY short. I have like 50hrs, and this is after already beating it and leveling up for the sake of it, getting Erde Kaiser, beating the secret bosses, and playing the minigames big time. (I will say that the card game can get pretty addictive and the casino is fun since it is in YOUR favor to win.) However, I have been replaying parts of the game to better understand things to better understand some things, especially trying to see if... SPOILER********* Kevin is the redcloaked man. I've heard their voices are the same and I've been trying to check that out. End Spoiler******** I also find the database and biblical references in the game pretty cool. I was watching some show about the bible and nearly freaked when I heard the word Nephilim. Basically, the story kind of IS cut short since they are trying to tell it over 6 games. The next one should have more action and more nature since they just landed on a planet. (didn't want to say any spoilers.) Not to mention Jin, Shion's brother, should be a playable character and that should be pretty fun. I would try to compare it to the LOTR movies. They are pretty good individually, but they shine all together. But then again, they don't cost 50 bucks a piece. I'll admit the part about the music. I was expecting, probably like you, great music like Xenogears. It is in the game, too bad its rarely used. I had to hear some of the songs by themselves just to hear how good it was. I don't really pay attention to characters, but these guys didn't make it unjoyable or anything. However, I think only chaos and KOSMOS are rumoured to be in all 6, so maybe better character are in line...like maybe Fei.... Xenogears also had a pretty darn good battle system. Can't beat super combos and chi. However, I think Xenosaga's system is better than most, expecially when they only consist of pressing X. The AGWS were dissapointing. The only one probably worth anything is the real expensive one at the end. I haven't got it yet, playing poker, but plan to. I heard they do well against the Gnosis but I never tried. Still, can't really assume they'd be as good as gears since gears are like 14,000 years down the line. Those rocks humans once used for weapons are pretty inferior to our bombs. I kind of went overboard, I'm sorry. I just want you and others to stick with the series. I don't think Xenosaga I is the best game, but I think Xenosaga will be a great experience. BTW, I did play Dark Cloud. It was and still is probably one of the better RPG's on the PS2. I enjoyed the way you got better weapons and could customize them and the best of all was the city-building. I spent a pretty good amount of time doing that and fishing. DC 2 should have like 10 times more gameplay, from what I heard. (or for expectations, maybe just more.) I would definitly give it a try. Now I will take my chill pill.
I, for one, appreciate the long post, RC! I could talk RPG shop for hours upon hours, and with certain friends, I do. Personally, I can't wait until FFX-2 comes out, although it is insanely weird that they're making a direct sequel to a FF game. Oh well, they're also making FFXI and FFXII as to not skip a beat. And Star Ocean 3 should be awesome. If you haven't played Star Ocean 2 for the PSX, I highly recommend it. Barely got any recognition, but it's one of the best out there. Kind of reminded me of Chrono Trigger, it had the same feel. Too many people in cloaks in Xenosaga, by the way! Geez. Not only do we have the guy in the red cloak, who you think is Kevin. (Very well could be) and then the guy in the blue cloak, who we find out to be Virgil. (Very odd decision, I think.) To me, Xenosaga also lacked the creepy factor. I remember in Xenogears, I was creeped out like a billion times... Oh man, when Fei gets captured in Solaris and Citan appears to be all evil, I was like "Nooooo! Not Citan! He's my friend! WHY?!" Best game ever.
Hehe...yeah, I was kind of like that too towards Citan. Xenogears was a pretty good game...wow, what an understatement I just made. I think I heard Square actually messed it up too, a little. I think they wouldn't let some things go into the game storywise, like the creator wanted, and they also took away money to put into FF8. I don't know if that's true, but it kind of seems that way when you're in disc 2. I think Xenosaga is just trying to tease us or something. I kind of like mysterious stuff so its ok with me. It is kind of fun reading theories on who is who and why they did things. I'm still trying to figure out Virgil and his connection to Feb, as well as who chaos really is. Kevin was one of the easier things to figure out. If you remember when the council people were talking about Mizrahi's assistant 14yrs ago, who was 14 I think, that person was now assumed to be in Vector now. Kevin happends to be 28, a genius, and worked, and I think works, with Vector. Also, when the red cloaked man gave Cherekov, or whatever his name is, KOS-MOS's starter thing, he had a black strand of hair like Kevin, not to mention that only he and Shion had the code thing, I assume. Why he would help U-Tic though, is kind of strange. Oops...there I go again. Yep, plenty of good RPG's to come. I kind of feel pretty weird towards FFX-2 as well, but that doesn't mean Square won't get my money. (or should I say my dad's money. ) I have played SO2 and it was pretty good if memory serves correct. Couldn't you like make potions, food, metals, books, and other stuff in that game? I remember spending hours doing that. Yummy...um...food stuff.
