Uh...WTH does this even mean? Isn't playing games about having fun? If you are playing a game and having fun, what difference does it make if you're throwing cell phones at people or are online shooting kids in Halo? I find the latter incredibly boring, but I wouldn't act like people who are doing that are somehow wasting time. (for the record, I don't view entertaining yourself as wasting time...I am all about entertaining myself. It's my life goal.) If you play games, watch TV/movies, read books/magazines, use Facebook, use Clutchfans to follow the Rockets, then you have time to screw around with GTA4.
Im all for throwing cell phones at people...not sure if I can handle 300+ hours of that kind of shenanigans though. I'd rather play and finish about 40 games. If you enjoy doing that, then go for it, but that doesnt make GTA IV a great game...it just makes it a game that never ends.
It does make GTA4 a great game. Any game I can play for 5 years is a great game. When waiting for my gaming group (old school table top gaming) every weekend, we almost always have GTA4 being played as we're waiting for people to arrive. GTA4 is actually fun to just watch. When the entire room erupts into cheers/horror, you know something exciting just happened. These moments happen all the time in GTA4. I expect to play GTA5 just as long, by the way. Look, I am not trying to convince you to play GTA4, as you are obviously not a fan of GTA games, but calling GTA4 the most over hyped game is just absurd.
Anybody else notice how when the game begins the road signs indicate that it's taking place South of Austin (somewhere around McKinney State Park)? At one point, Joel and Tommy even mention Highway 71
I clearly said LACK of imagination because you cannot figure out how to entertain yourself for more than an hour on GTA4. And you'd most definitely think my imagination is disturbed if you could watch me play GTA4 for a few minutes... It was also a play on a Darth Vader quote. Relax.
It got scores of 10 across the board from every reviewer, purely as a result of all the hype that was coming with it...which is absurd. Sure, give it a 10 in "Lasting Appeal"...but it doesnt deserve a 10 in graphics, storyline, sound, game play, etc... The story line was boring, the missions were repetitive, and there was really nothing amazing about it other than the fact that it's a sandbox game in a large world with lots of random things you can do. I got tired of banging hookers and then killing them.
I consider GTA4 one of the best games of all time (if not THE best) and totally deserving of every "10" it got. I think the hype was right on (like with Lebron). We'll have to agree to disagree on this issue. And you're reading crappy reviews if you think they are based on hype and not the actual game. Perhaps you're just in the minority as far as GTA4 is concerned? I would go as far as to guarantee it, so don't blame hype for the good reviews. That is just silly. The Last of Us is also totally deserving of every "10" it got.
I agree and so do many gamers. I remember game forums going crazy over the scores. I never finished the game personally, became boring real fast.
To each his own I guess. I thought GTA IV was boring. Definitely not even close to a best game of all time. Hell Skyrim, Morrowind, and Oblivion blow that series out of the water.
To each his own, indeed. I thought Skyrim was awful. Oblivion I really liked, but never finished. Morrowind I could not get into.
I finished the game last night. It took about 18.5 hours on hard difficulty. This game ****ing kicks ass. As much praise as I have heaped on the GTA series, I have to say that they have their work cut out to outdo The Last of Us. The Last of Us is the best story driven game I have played in years. Buy it today. If you don't have a PS3, buy 'em both.
Since zombie movies and games are popular right now. I guessed we might be seeing a Last of Us starring Ellen Page and Gerald Butler.
Just beat the game yesterday. I'd say it's the PS3's best exclusive...yes better than any of the Uncharted games. I just wish the game was longer. Also, the ending didn't really conclude well in my opinion. I'd rather another new IP from Naughty Dog instead of 'The last of us 2' but I just wish they did better with the ending, it had me saying 'that's it...?'
I thought the ending sucked. Please tell me that there are alternate endings and I played the game wrong. I just finished it. Good game, but very poor conclusion imo.
Why? The ending was very meaningful and emotional. It makes you think, and it sums up Joel's character to a point. What did you expect it would all be fun and games in the end? The game isn't supposed to be "I am legend" where everything is sunshine in the end.
Spoiler For one I hated Ellie through a lot of the game and at best was indifferent to her existing. I like Joel and I understand why he did what he did as he sees her now as the daughter that he lost. Me personally though, I had no investment in her. Even the couple missions where I have to play as her didn't make me like her any. If they had given me a choice at the end whether to save Ellie or let her die I would have let her die because it might have meant the cure for humanity. It wasn't a happy ending. It made playing the game, and everything we had to go through virtually meaningless. Sure it made the relationship between Ellie and Joel grow but that's it. All those people killed, all those near death experiences, all for nothing and they are just going to go back to the shelter again and just chill out and eventually die without impacting anything. Also, Joel for all Ellie has done still treats her like a little girl for the entire game. She has shown that she is an adult. For him to outright lie to Ellie like that about the Fireflies at the end was not appropriate IMO. I would have liked the ending better if Joel told Ellie the truth.
