Scribo should I pick up the original? I saw it for about $15 used and it seems like it would be fun.

I thought it was an outstanding game with a few minor flaws. It really nailed the Batman ambiance, and you felt like you were Batman while playing this game. The sequel looks like they took the original game and improved upon it immensely, fixing the few issues and ratcheting everything else.

Arkham Assylum was in the running for most sites' Game of the Year and won quite a few of those awards. All in all, it's one of the better games of this generation.

$15 is a pretty good price. If you buy Arkham City from Walmart (pre-order only I think), you can get Arkham Assylum GOTY for free. The GOTY verison contains all of the DLC, all of which is additional challenges map packs.

I still need to play the original. Have it installed on my PC too. Think I gave up initially because of some weird driver gamepad issue (didn't feel like looking for a fix).

Sequel looks great, so hope I can finish the original soon.

Watched a couple of reviews and now I'm pumped. Can't wait.

    Here's the launch trailer.

Scribo, I saw that review that talked about the opening changing. It makes me want to start the game without downloading the content and then go back and start it again after the download just to see what the difference is.

KingCheetah, I actually just bought the first game and played it again. I had originally played it through Gamefly. It's an awesome game.

I just read Nolan North (aka Nathan Drake from Uncharted) does the voice for Penguin. I never would have recognized him. The voice acting is going to be awesome in this game. They pretty much imported all the Batman: The Animated Series actors or got top notch replacements.

Yes, theoretically. You can pretty much go wherever you want in Arkham City, and take on challenges along the way. However, I've heard it compared more to Zelda than to GTA in that it's open world with a large number of dungeons (buildings or areas with super villains).

The original was great. All the reviews make it sound like this one is even better.

Ok this is my last chance to pre-order the game, Walmart doesn't have the Arkham Asylum offer anymore, Toys-R-Us is doing a 3 for 2 deal... How do I get all of the add-ons and downloadable content?? Robin/Catwoman Joker's Carnival map, I want it all...

Oh wow. Toys R Us is running that sale after all. I guess I'm cancelling my Best Buy order and buying Arkham City, Dark Souls, and a place holder for Uncharted 3. I save 60 bucks this way. I figure the Arkham City DLC won't be more than $10 a character, so the Toys R Us way is cheaper.

Toys R Us apparently has axed the Placeholder Trick.

    IGNORE THE INFO BELOW!

It’s time for the great Toys R Us Buy 2 Get 1 Free sale. Especially with all the holiday games out, you can really use this to boost your collection for a sizeable discount even if some of the games haven’t yet been released (Uncharted 3, Skyrim). You can also use this an opportunity to buy a console and get a few free games if you know how to work their system.

If you have a console and there are three games out that you want, then just buy 2 games and get the third free.

What if one or two of the games aren’t out yet?
As long as there is a single game already released that you do want, you’re fine. Pick up the single game you want, and any other two games at the same price. These other two games are simply placeholders. When you check out, make sure you ask for gift receipts on the two placeholder games and specify that game you want to keep is the free one. Just come back in the next week and return those placeholder games for credit, and then you can buy your unreleased games when they come out.

How do I buy a console and score a few free games?
This is a variation of the placeholder trick above. I’m going to show how you can get two free games with the $250 PS3 or four games and a $300 PS3 for $360, but the process is the same for Wii, PSP, 3DS, and 360.

Pick two games you want that are already released. Those should be $60 a piece. Now pick up another 4 placeholder games at $60 a pop. When you check out, get gift receipts for the four placeholder games and make sure you specify that the two you want to keep are the free games. That’ll run you $240.

Now return to the store a day later and return the four games for $240 store credit. Use that credit and an extra $10 to buy your new PS3. You’ll have paid $250 and received the PS3 as well as two free games.

If you decide on the $300 model, you’ll need to pick out at least three games you want and buy 6 placeholder games, which will cost you $360. You can return 5 games for the $300 credit, and the last game is up to you. Keep it, or return it for credit towards a peripheral or a future game that’s not yet released. You have to spend $360, which is more than the $300 sticker price, but you get 4 games (or 3 and a peripheral) with it.

According to a couple of people on cheapassgamer, they're doing a different system to counter the placeholder strategy that many people have been doing over the years.

I still don't see how they'll refuse you a gift receipt on games, but the same source that leaked the b2g1 sale was coming said that if you try to return one of the games you'll get the post-sale price, 40$ back instead of 60.
