I've been pretty excited to play the new Batman Game, which is currently slated for release in the first half of 2011. The first game was pretty awesome. The boss fights sucked, but the overall feel of that game was just amazing. It was hands-down the best comic book game I've played. You truly felt like you were playing as Batman. The combat system had a nice fluidity, and there was an artform to chaining together massive combos instead of just button mashing. I loved the detective mode, and I really hope they bring more of that back. They released this trailer about it late last year.

Video Games | Batman: Arkham City | Spike VGA 09: Exclusive Debut Trailer

XBox 360 | Playstation 3 | Nintendo Wii

New info on it today. From Gametrailers.com: I don't know about multi-player, but I'm excited about Cat Woman making an appearance. A bunch of screenshots were released as well on Joystiq Here are a couple of the really cool ones, mainly highlighting the villans: Two Face and Cat Woman Spoiler The revamped Harley Quinn Spoiler Villan, Love Interest, and Partner? Spoiler Thugs look more varied than Arkham Asylum Spoiler
I hope they really improve the "detective" aspects. If I recall, in Arkham Aslum you were just following a glow-in-the-dark trail around. Not very interesting or challenging. Better detective aspects where you have to actually think and using problem-solving skills is the big thing I'd want to see.
Agreed, but I did like that they incoporated that kind of aspect into the game instead of just having you go around and bash things. There was also the Riddler challenges that were a bit more difficult. I'm hoping that they established the basics in the first game, and then ramp everything up in this next game. If they can beef up the detective aspects and have some truly epic boss fights, this could be an all-time great.
1st one was classic. I enjoyed the character studies through the tapes. Wish I had collected all of them
Arkham Asylum was one of the few video games I've played over the past few years that I really wanted to keep playing until I finished. Awesome game. I buy maybe 1 video game every couple of years, but this one I will certainly be getting.
The first one was awesome. I got it through GameFly and it's the only game I've gotten though them that I've played through more than once before returning. I'm kind of wishing I had bought it because I want to play it again.
The first one was awesome. It didn't really even feel like playing a videogame, it felt like a movie and you were Batman.. Anyway, this new one looks cool too.
I loved the first game. Just bought it a few weeks ago and finished it quickly. I'm not sure why you guys keep mentioning the bosses. What was so bad about them?
Overall, its a pretty fun game. Do you have to be a batman fan? Nah, I don't think so. If you like a role playing game with a excellent story and plot, its perfect.
They were lame, lame, lame. I was fully hoping for epic boss fights ala Metroid, God of War, Devil May Cry, etc. Spoiler This game pretty much involved two enemy types. Thugs and Titans. Bane was a simple Titan. You fight Bane by beating up thugs, waiting for him to charge, and dodging so he hits walls. He was essentially the same enemy type as the other titan thugs. I just expected him to be above and beyond the simple other Titans. The Scarecrow scenes were all okay, but the seemed a bit out of place. You don't fight Harley Quinn. You beat up thugs and take her out in a cutscene. You skulk through the sewer and occasionally Croc pops up. You throw a boomerang and he's back in the water. At the end of level, you stand back and wait for him to charge before you detonate explosive gel and let him plummet into the abyss below. The Poison Ivy fight was the only true boss fight in the game, but even a good chunk of that involved fighting thugs. You face Zasz twice. Each time requires getting the perfect angle and hitting him with a boomerang. Not really a fight. Joker was the most underwhelming. You *GASP* fight a wave of thugs, pull the Joker down, hit him a few times, he follows you around before he jumps back. Repeat 3 times and the game is over. Here's Yahtzee Croshaw with a spot-on take. NSFW It's a testament to how cool and atmospheric the rest of the game was that it shined despite the underwhelming boss fights. Maybe it's expecting too much for a game to have epic boss fights, but Batman deserves it. He's got legendary opponents, and I wanted to take them on. For the sequel it will be inexcusable if it doesn't address this problem. KingCheetah, you don't need to be a Batman fan to enjoy this game, but there are loads of goodies if you are a Batman fan. They reprised many of the voices from The Animates Series as well as getting the head writer from the show. Kevin Conroy, Mark Hamill, and Arleen Sorkin as Batman, Joker, and Harley Quinn was awesome.
