Has anyone mentioned that OSX just runs on less hardware resources than Windows? I edit on both FCP (MAC) and Premiere (PC), and I have to agree with Brando, Final Cut just runs as smooth as butter. If you CAN afford a Mac, go with that. Alot of Hollywood films, TV shows, are edited with FCP, and not just because they are "cool" but because they are efficient machines.
Ok, can someone please explain to me what OSX is?.. Judging by the comments it seems to be a way to put Mac on Pc's... But what is it? how does it work?.....
Here's another forum where you can read threads and also get some professional advice: http://www.b-roll.net/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=27
Sorry for the tangent, but I think these days PCs and Macs are equally capable for audio. It depends more on the software you want to use. I have heard Windows 7 is an upgrade over Vista for audio, but that's just hearsay. Cubase (works on both) and Logic (Mac only) seem to be the biggest players today, at least for the producers I follow. It also depends how involved you want to get. For basic recording, GarageBand seems capable enough. Gearslutz is a technically inclined board, but some big time producers visit there (Butch Vig!). My main recommendation would actually be to find forums specifically for people who record in your genre. You might center your studio on a hardware sampler or your main use is to record a string quartet. You can achieve the same goal with most DAWs, it's just a question of which features can make it happen more efficiently depending on the chore. Kind of like OS's. Just my amateur advice.
It's NOT the machine. It's the OS. Final Cut might work better on an OSX but other compositing or video editing programs will work better on Windows.
Like I said, buy the XPS, try to install OSX on there if you want to. The best of both worlds. Macs use the same hardware components PC uses, there is no difference at all. It's the OS that is different.
I'll try to read this when I get to work -- I will -- but of course I'm going to say get a Mac. If you're in Houston and have a change coming up to come to the Houston Galleria Apple Store, send me an email through the board. I'll let you know my schedule (no, we don't work on commission).
Our entire production company and the advertising agency we work in dallas all use macs. You don't know you are talking about. In every industry there is always the cheapest option but many times you get the system that will yield you the best product and thus make you the biggest profit.
So you work at one company and you think the whole world is using Mac? Try working in 10 different computer animation production company and come back on here and we will discuss.
I knew you're going to so up. One of the most r****ded Apple fanboy in Clutchfans. Not an Apple hater. Just being realistic about an overpriced hardware.
You could edit your posts if you contribute and considering you don't have a MAC, you should have plenty of money to do so.
This IS true. Yes, apple hardware IS overpriced, but I will (if I can afford it) take Final Cut over any other editing software any day of the week. I've tried them all, I still use Premiere on my PC whenever I have to use After Effects. Final Cut was designed by Apple to work on OSX. The program is just much more effecient. I have a PC with similar hardware settings that of my Mac and Premiere crashes more often than FCP, and takes MUCH longer to render files.
