There are also pictures of the event available that begin before the video (at least the video I've seen, it's possible the one you've seen may include these pictures).
I don't know that the people there even considered him a threat. On the tape the man who wrestles the marine to the ground never says anything at all about a threat. He does speak to the man about the questions being personal, but never about him being a threat.
i dont speak for anyone but myself, but i can say that you are completely wrong with that assesment. i for one am not a partisan tool for any party. i call 'em as i see 'em. it is wrong no matter who does it or who it happens to.
No harm, no foul. That was Dick Cheney tackling the enemy combatant. Remember, they now have Congressional authority to use whatever methods are necessary...
Halfbreed is right that we should consider context and not jump to conclusion. Halfbreed, is there anything specific in the video or what you've heard about the incident or any other context that would make you think it is otherwise than what it is presented has?
I've seen pictures of the guy pushing his way towards Allen. Viewed as photos, they look like he could be rushing Allen but it is very possible that if viewed in regular speed the guy in question would not be threatening. I'll qualify my position and say that if the guy was asking honest questions and the bodyguards didn't believe he posed a threat, it was wrong to act the way they did. I wasn't there, however, and I can see how they would see this as a threat. The guy wasn't trying to find out information for the election. Anyone who honestly believes that is naiive. The guy writes a diary for Kos. He was looking for attention and he got it. You could say this is exactly what he wanted and Allen's staffers gave it to him and cost their guy some good publicity. However, judging by the race, I'm not sure either of the candidates has a good name left. This has honestly been one of the most negative non-presidential campaigns in a long time. It's sad that one of these guys will get elected.
You do realize Webb is a decorated war vet, with a son in the marinas in Iraq and a former Reagan appointee?
...so? I thank the man for everything he's done for the country. It doesn't change the fact that I feel he's run a very negative campaign and is a fairly slimy individual. I've never understood why many on the left decry the actions of the military but point to war service from only their own as a positive thing. Every time someone says something negative about John McCain I should now point out...well yeah, but the guy was a POW and served in the war, so there. Now you can't say anything bad about what he's doing now. Should the fact that Webb worked for Reagan change my mind? Why? Why does the fact that his son works close to the water matter anyhow?
