I disagree with you because I think jordan watching yao and deke being professionals and guys like shane and scola wouldve been great for him. Dorsey was 25 and jordan was 19. There is a difference in devloping at 25 vs 19. I'm staying consistent and I said this to my cuz who is a spurs fan. When he was at the bottom of the rd, the reward far outweighs the risk. To me, there isn't much difference from 20-50. So even if a guy at 20 flames out and a guy at 50 makes it, it really doesn't matter money wise. When you get to those spots, you're kinda looking for diamonds in the rough so you're taking guys with upside or bench players. I thought the rockets shouldve taken him based on where yao and deke was in their careers.

    What we also get.
Gasol is really playing a wuss. I was so blind to approve of the deal.
Gasol is unathletic as hell in this athletic conference

Clutch just made the same observation (see the link below). I'm glad you've anointed yourself the spokesman for everybody Shroomby2, but the fact of the matter remains that the Rockets still don't have a center unless you count the malnourished Yinka Dare (props to ZBoy for that one).

But some people still don't get it and I've already explained that here:

I think DeAndre Jordan had the most spectacular 6 points ever.

That was a sick dunk. It'll be really interested to see how he develops this year. Especially now that Paul is on board, he definitely made Chandler better offensively during their time together.

Damn I wish he was a Rocket. Just pass him the ball and ask him to do that all night.

That Dorsey pick was crap, but then again a lot of people passed on him. I think you are over critical on Morey for some reason. Drafting has been one of the things he did really well as a GM, I don't think it has hurt the team as you said.

He didn't dunk on anybody there, why do people always say that..I just hate it because there's so many videos on youtube claiming people are getting dunked on when they are not just near the player dunking..

Other then that, Clippers are my favourite team next to the Rockets.

Did we really pass up on Jordan ??

Know what you mean. In some instances, a dunk simply comes behind a defender or off his shoulder, to where he's not even directly in front or even close to touch the person dunking.

I want to put it out first that I hated the Joey Dorsey pick from the beginning, but it is at least a little defensible when you think about what the Rockets were trying to do that year; they cashed in their chips to rent Artest, had a fully recovered Yao and at that time expected to have T-Mac fully recovered from shoulder surgery. This was the year to go all in. The one huge hole they had was at backup center, and Mutombo was unofficially retired. You said it yourself that a 2nd round pick is essentially a throwaway asset, so why not try and get a rookie who they though could play 10mpg immediately, rather than a guy who, while talented, didn't even start on his college team? The future doesn't matter much when you've basically got a 1 year window to win.

I think we can agree to disagree; if either of us could accurately predict how a player will respond to coaching/veteran presences, neither of us should be posting on a fan message board on the internet. I'm not opposed to shooting high with 2nd rounders (or 1st rounders for that matter), and most of the time I'm either completely disappointed or flabbergasted at who the Rockets pick. But they have a system that's working thus far, and the quartet of Patterson/Budinger/Brooks/Landry has given me a ton of faith in their methods, and the Scola/Lowry/Lee/Martin deals have given me a ton of faith in their ability to evaluate NBA talent; I can excuse an occasional Miller/Ariza/ or yes, DeAndre Jordan misstep.

And maybe he had to just get out out of Houston/Texas to truly develop? Sometimes players need to get that kick in the pants to get their competitive fire going, a la Rashard Lewis. Sometimes they need another young player who's got a magnetic personality and a fun-loving attitude, rather than a multitude of cagey, professional vets. I don't know DeAndre, so I have no idea what his personality is like. I just think it's delusional to believe that a player develops solely based on his own innate drive and talent, ignoring the fact that his situation plays a huge role in his development.

Look, I'm not going to say that Dorsey wasn't a total bust. And I would have been happy if the Rockets had signed Jordan to a contract this offseason (4/$43 is a little excessive, though). But again, both of you should at the very least acknowledge that if the 2008 draft was a whiff, Morey completely knocked it out of the park in 2007, when he drafted an undersized 24 year old with a shaky knee over the #1 HS recruit, a 6'11" do it all super athlete. Sometimes, drafting production over potential does pay huge rewards.
