Capela did look impressive on defense, that's pretty much was one of the biggest reasons why the Rockets drafted him. It's like Clutchfans only care about offensive plays.

Even his offense looked promising to me. He was able to get to the rim but couldn't finish. If he played under control a lot of those shots he took last night could be points.

When Peyton Manning was throwing picks left and right in his rookie year, people saying Ryan Leaf should be the top pick instead.

Glad to see I'm not the only one that sees the promise through the mistakes. I'm just projecting though while assuming that he can take coaching. The way he blocks out for rebounds and keeps the ball held up high makes me think he can. We'll eventually see what this kid has. He could turn out to be just another athletic freak with low IQ like Tyrus Thomas though. I'm all for finding out though. Trial by fire.

When Capela was drafted my largest concern was that his physical tools were over stated or his motivation would be limited. There have been a number of players with long standing reach but no bulk to keep players out of the paint or lack the motor to contribute.

Physically I was impressed with what I saw. Clint gets off the ground very quick, has a long set of arms that translate to the NBA game and importantly was not passive. He obviously wants to be good, he played very hard and hustled.

It is unlikely his offensive game ever develops like Olajuwon or Ibaka. However, to be a very valuable player, all he has to do is learn proper spacing, when to rotate... rebound and finish inside. There is no reason he cannot do all of these things. McHale does need to beat the "I must score" mentality out of him.

It is simple, he can have a 10 year NBA career and be a major contributor if he plays hard and smart.

Saw the highlights just now. I liked the timing on his shot block. Very natural. He can run the floor too. Offensively, he just doesn't know what to do at all. He was putting in a good effort, and didn't give up.

He needs to practice a lot with McHale, and also to play in the D-League.

Do we have a big man coach for the Vipers?

Someone should also post the highlight of Yao's first 10 games and show us how he stumbled to the floor when a PG blow pass him on a simple cross over.

Oh, don't forget to include that video about Sir Charles kissing the donkey's ass.

    hope we don't trade him

I bet Hakeem/Dawson/McHale can't wait to develop his talents (not to mention what he can learn watching Howard). He's in a perfect situation.

Exactly. Unless traded he will make the playoff roster as a defender and rim protector.

If this kid still has more than 3 years before he is ready for the NBA, then you can bet that he'll be gone before he amounts to anything. He might become something good, but it wouldn't be as a Rocket. Given Morey's track record, he doesn't wait a guy 4 years to develop no matter how high the ceiling appears to be.

    Not the best example.

Green was, and still kind of is, a knuckleheaded thug (wanna be?) He needed to fall out of the league to get a reality check.

many defensive only players have made it in this league and if capela and rockets are smart that is what he should focus on now. the offense will come as he matures and the game slows down for him. but for now just defense and rebounding should be the focus. honestly he can get you 6-10 points on dunks and putbacks just from crashing the boards.

Yep. Probably has more potential offensively.

I think he's just trying to show out, wanting to be a part of the team and all. Can't blame him - if you're getting garb time, you might as well make the most of it, and go all out.

My concern is that his rookie contract will expire about the time he figures it out, and he will get big money from someone speculating in FA.

We would have developed him, and someone else will reap the rewards.

When the Blazers drafted Jermaine O'Neal, they drafted a good player, but for them, the pick was a bust. He sat on their bench for 4 years doing nothing, and got good just in time to reward the Pacers with a long and productive career.

    A rookie contract isn't forever.

Hey, maybe a good thing. Look what happened to "Dorsey Unleashed" after he got laughed at by the whole team. Hope it lights a fire under his A@$ next garbage time. He will not let the ball within 5 feet of the basket!

He missed three layups on that one possession when all he had to do was dunk. Once the game slows down for him he will be okay.

Pair him up with Hakeem in the summer time see if it bites. DMO can also mentor him with those post moves. Younger guys can be more coachable than old vets. Look at Dwight. LOL
