Hayes isn't that bad an option. Give him a little more prep time, like Hayesfan said, and I think he'd close off those angles better. The refs were calling the game tight and he didn't have any good defenders behind him, to provide backline support, so its tough.

Melo made most of his noise against Shane and Chase. He got Shane in foul trouble early (with the help of the refs) and that left Chase exposed against him big time. Rick finally went with Hayes on him down the stretch. Hayes wasn't terribly effective, but he sure wasn't responsible for Melo getting 50. And I would bet that Melo's efficiency went down when Chuck got on him as opposed to Chase. I would bet Hayes could guard the dude effectively if he had to. Melo may get 30 but he'd get on a high number of shots and a high number of turnovers.

Great play by Chuck and I think Melo traveled. It would've been 4 steps to the rack.

An amazing play by Chuck, but what surprised me the most, considering how horrific they were during the entire game, was that the refs didn't call a foul on the Chuckwagon. It was a clean play, as Clutch's clip clearly shows, but didn't everyone else expect a whistle? I sure as hell did!

Hell of a play by Chuck ..... If he sticks around next season I may get me a Chuckwagon jersey , and Ive never bought a player jersey before in 40+ years of being a sports fan.

They called a foul any other time anyone wearing red got within 3 feet of the guy .... Some horrible calls last night. Without the help of the Refs that game was likely out of reach for the Nuggets much sooner.

Star treatment like that is just so blatantly obvious , its like the NBA has lost its integrity. Money is the bottom line , not the rules.

Rarely has Anthony been as good as he was Monday night.

"He made every shot," Rockets coach Rick Adelman marveled. "He was putting his head down and going. We don't have a lot of resistance to the basket. Shane [Battier] got in foul trouble, then we had to put Chuck [Hayes] on him. So, there was no one behind. Just put his head down and went to the basket."

Anthony, who made 16 of 24 shots from the field and 16 of 18 free throws, said he was surprised the Rockets didn't double-team him.

"That was the first time I've seen that in a long, long time," Anthony said. "Especially with a big guy on me with Chuck Hayes. ... Like, I said, some shots felt good tonight. But it wasn't enough."

"He's always a handful and he got it going tonight," Battier said. "There's not so much you can do when he puts his head down and goes to the hoop. We played pretty good defense on him going to the hoop. There was some contact there and he got to the free throw line [18] times. That's a big number.

"Our game plan was to make him hit the jumpers. He made a few. We started to do a better job on the rest of the guys: 'Let Melo score his point, let's concentrate on everybody else.' "[/rquoter]

Neither of those guys is untouchable. When they start putting up at least 20-25/10 on a nightly basis, then we can talk.

Exactly. Man, on a night when a guy scores 50pts, grabs 11 rebs & blocks 3shots we're nitpicking about him getting stripped. By the way I'D TRADE SCOLA & HAYES FOR CARMELO IN A MILLISECOND!!!! Too bad you'd get hung up on by all the GMs in basketball for even suggesting such a swap. I love the Rox, but some people on this board are delusional.

What have we won since 1995?
And what have Chuck Hayes & Scola won to make them untouchable?
Hell if Hayes holds a star to his average (Win, lose or draw) he gets hugz, kisses, and a handjob on this board.

If Melo would have put on a Rockets uniform anytime since 1995 he instantly would've been the best player on the team.

Again some of you who attack Melo & act like Hayes and Scola are "untouchable" don't live in the real world.
Boy Morey needs to rebuild our squad & get on to better times.

Honestly, I don't know how they did not call a foul on that play. Chuck was fouling the ball in previous plays and they kept sending lala to the line.
    =/

Hayes has been playing so effectively for us on both ends. I think he's right up there with Brad and Shane at finding the cutters from the high post. And he's become very good at driving past the defense for the layups when they overplay him to force bad passes.

The next phase of his game that could make him really special is if he learns to shoot that 15 footer like he has learned to straighten out that hitch in his free throws. If he could start knocking down that little 15 footer, he could become deadly in Adelman's system because of his ability to defend so well on the other end. He's got everything else he needs. And he's already playing very effectively. Unload that 15 footer, Chuckwagon!

I don't really expect us to win when we've been he most injured team in the NBA for many seasons now. It's not a reflection on any of our players that we are a mediocre team, like it is in Denver's case, because we've had tens of millions of dollars on the bench.

Guys got a great frontline, strong scoring off the bench, championship PG and one first round win? Yeah no thanks I'd rather take my chances with this team or find someone better with a middle first round pick.

With prep time and getting him familiar with defending further from the paint would definately help. I thought he held his own against Melo and of course made key stops when it mattered. Honestly, you could stick him on anyone besides very quick 1's and 2's and get solid work from him. He's a versitle player and his improved FT and left hand scoring is making him a threat.

Kevin Martin's "oh snap" reaction approves of Chucks play.
