Yao said last year that this kid will be better than him. Yi Jianlian is not yet 18. He was once projected to be No.1 or No.2 pick on nbadraft.net until his real age is coming into question and that the CBA has a new rule that forbids players younger than 22 to enter the draft.

Del Harris said he is as athletic as Swift. And he is 7'1".

Those dunks are nice. It also seems like he's filled out a bit since the last pic I saw of him. I could see him being a AK47-light, not a great game, but athletic and long enough to play D and run the floor.

I don't know how good that guy can become. But if you are 7'1" and can move and jump like that, you will get a job in the NBA. I heard this guy is a shot blocker and play defense too.

He also has a jump shot, btw. ;) He shot 16 for 16 in a game, probably the second best shooting next to the 21 for 21 Yao once did.

I got those on hoopchina.com, a Chinese site. There are programs working like bt that allow you to watch games online, the more people watching the smoother. There are quite a few of them.

    I can't believe this.

I'm so damn hungry for basketball that I'm watching Chinese hoops.

    ...

    oh well.

It's still better than the WNBA (I'm not that hungry).

That's even scarier, if you accept the notion that coming in at 22 might make him a more accomplished and experienced player.

Mr. Dawson, I hope you're watching...

    I have to say...

Yao shows NO hustle in this game. Sometimes he doesn't even WALK up court.
look at 0:58 on clip 3. He gets the rebound, passes down court, and doesn't walk down!
06:00 on clip 3. As Yao slowly makes his way down court, opposition goes in for an easy layup. WTF?!?
04:23 on clip 4. Yao sits the bench. Doesn't look like he's broken a sweat all day.
I think Yao sat the bench for all of the 4th quarter.

Yao only dunked once (8:55 on clip 3). I see him always doing layups at the rim when he should be throwing it down.

It seemed like China went on scoring sprees every time Yao sat down. Coincidence? I hope so.

Did he get even one blocked shot? Seemed like he was doing an aweful job at shot blocking.

Maybe he's just taking the game lightly because he feels the competition is greatly inferior.\
Maybe he's rusty on that foot after surgery.
    I dunno...
I sure hope this isn't the game he's bringing to the NBA this season.

poke a hole in your ankle and see how mobile you are. i'd rather him take it easy than aggrivate the injury.

Man the Chinese refs suck pretty bad. In Q1, near the beginning, one chinese player drives to the left and the icelander jumps into him. The chinese dude gets called for a charge! No wonder chinese players shun contact. They probably get called for touch fouls all the time...

Can't get past 12.5MB on Q3? Anyone else have the same problem?

i'm not worried at all by yao's performance in the game. first u have to factor in the rust, and on top of that, it's not the hardest competition. i'm glad he wasn't playing hard like he did in the olympics but i'm sure we'll see yao play a little harder in the Asian Championships. hopefully not too hard cuz we got a big season coming up.....75 million dollar season.

I think this kid is a top five pick, NBA picks are mostly based on potential. No way Houston get him unless something real strange happens. ;)

A dunk is one of the worst indicators of basketball talent.....

I've played with some freaks that could throw down amazing dunks, but could do little else.

Show me some videos of his jumper, his interior defense, and his shot-blocking skills, and his offensive skills (ball handling, post moves, etc.) and then I'll say "He should play for us!!" or not.

Hell I can still dunk a basketball. :p

I think he will be in the draft next year. You will be able to check him out next year, but 7 footer that moves like that are hard to find.

he had some smooth moves, esp for his size....but then there are lots of guys with the same skill level who will never make an NBA team. Besides I'd like to see him try it with stiffer competition
