I have digital cable but it doesn't show the channels without the box or a program(if one exists). I just get my expanded basic channels thru my tuner card but my local service carries ch. 51 as a channel. I don't know anything about the 9700 though. CK
Same here. I have digital cable, but the tuner only gets the basic (first 100 or so) channels. KNWS works on channel 2, so all is good!
You need the digital box to get the digital channels. I'm not sure if there's a way around that. As long as you have something between the PC and the cable coming into your home doing the descrambling, it should work. Here's what I do. I have a line that comes into my digital box which then goes into a splitter that the installer put in when I asked him if I could split the signal safely. Well the splitter has two taps on it... one of the taps I send to the tv, the other tap goes into my tv card. The only drawback to this is that you can't change channels at your PC since the cable box/descrambler comes before the split. Splitters are pretty cheap. Probably around $10.
Hey anyone: What's movie file format takes up the smallest space? I want to send some of these mpegs I'm making, but the files are huge. Also, what is a good file converter for these types of files?
Look at http://www.vcdhelp.com They have all the information you will ever need. It can be really complex. Probably your best best is MPEG1 for compatibility reasons, but quality isn't the best. Smallest/best quality would be something like DivX 5, but the user on the other end would have to install some software. Personally, I have been burning MPEG2 files to CD and watching them on my TV through my DVD player. Now, if you could figure out how to stream Rockets broadcasts over the internet with your TV card, that would be awesome! Edit: Two useful programs for converting: TMPGENC http://www.tmpgenc.net/ Virtualdub http://www.virtualdub.org/
I have an ATI also. Had it about 6 months now. It's funny how people are so amazed to see TV on the 'puter.
Check out vcdhelp.com as someone else suggested. Divx probably makes the smallest compression, but then no dvd player plays Divx video yet which is why I decided not to use it. The smallest size also depends on the quality you want. The entire game I recorded from last night in DV format was 32+ gigabytes. The least Ming could have done was play well. lol. I'll probably try compressing the video in MPEG2 format which will end up being about 3 or 4 gigs I suppose.
Behad, I have 4 discs worth of various vcd/dvd programs that I could make you copies of if you are so inclined..it has all the utilities that cappers use... Smeg, I have the Pacer game on disc..but it sucked so bad I;m thinkin of getting rid of it...do you still want a copy? If you have high speed..Ill set up a ftp server and you can pull it off that..or I can give it to ya for your wedding...your choice..
Thanks for the offer, but I really don't need to get that involved with this. I'm not looking to become the next mrpaige. I've gotten what I wanted out of this already, so now I'm just playing with it. If I have a larger file I want someone to see, I will just put in on a disc and mail it to them. Thanks anyway.
Then how can you go back and laugh at the naysayers when you realize how much better Ming has become in a few years? Man, I'd love to have the first Hakeem Olajuwon game for the Rockets. I don't care what he did in the game... it'd just be cool to have.
possible solution for getting all channels: Run cable (or Dish) into vcr. run out of vcr into tuner card. set tuner to watch/record channel 3 (which will be whatever goes IN to the vcr) You should be able to record channels above 100. Also, can you split from your cable on the wall to your cable modem and to a digital cable box? Chance
Mine is split from the wall to the cable modem and to the tuner card...technically it is also split to the digital cable box as well.
