Exactly. Just turn your eyes down, walk away, don't say anything, and it won't escalate anymore. It seems simple enough.
I don't know what footage you were watching, because he did NOT walk away after he threw that punch. (based off your assumption on the 2nd page)
How "easy" it is to not respond isn't the issue. If having restraint reduces the chance of harm (not just to yourself, but also the people around you), then exercise that restraint. If you are unwilling to do so, then you should be held responsible for the predictable consequences. If I was to stop responding in this thread because you want me to shut up, what is the gain? Would violence have been thwarted? No, all that would be achieved is you successfully stifling an opinion you disagree with.
You could stop talking and no disagreement would happen. A simple: "Sorry about the misunderstanding" would suffice. Don't act like you are backed into a situation where you have no choice but respond....Sound familiar? It should. http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showpost.php?p=5109737&postcount=140
It's on Next Friday, or Friday after Next. I forgot, but there is a character in there named Pinky, who owns a record shop. And in the movie, there's a line where he says, "Say it again, Say it again, I dare you!" That guy is pretty much Pinky. Guy who acts tough and gets owned.
Something else and a clear sign of the chip some people carry on their shoulders when it comes to race is when the old guy asks Pinkie what he said and all Pinkie can do is be belligerent. I don't blame the old guy one bit for standing his ground and not being made out as a racist because some jackass punk (and several ignorant women) are in fact racist themselves but can't see it because their too stupid.
That line is also in Pulp Fiction (sort of): Jules: "What" ain't no country I've ever heard of. They speak English in What? Brett: What? Jules: English, motherf****r, do you speak it? Brett: Yes! Yes! Jules: Then you know what I'm sayin'! Brett: Yes! Jules: Describe what Marsellus Wallace looks like! Brett: What? Jules: Say 'what' again. Say 'what' again, I dare you, I double dare you motherf****r, say what one more ******* time! Jules is the last person on the planet I'd f**k with.

Agreed. the old man moved away already from the black guy already. But he was hit first and the black guy was trying to impress that white chick beside her

Coming late to this and from reading the transcripts I think the old guy deserves some blame for starting the situation but "Pinky" is at fault for escalating.. The old guy misunderstood something that Pinky said and then keeps on pressing him even when its clear that wasn't what Pinky said. He does the right thing by walking away and at that point everything that happens next is Pinky's fault. Also the women and her friend videotaping the thing definately should bear some responsibility for inflaming the situation by egging on Pinky and IMO they come off the worst of all. I don't know how the police are sorting this out. From what I saw the old guy showed restraint by walking away, clearly acted in self-defense when hit, and restrained himself from further beating Pinky when he was down. While I think he bears some responsibility I don't think he did anything illegal other than making a public disturbance by ranting and raving.

There is nothing wrong with disagreements. I would hope we could come to a common understanding, and that's why I continue to respond. This is how rational people interact. Your insistence that such interaction is comparable to trash talking and violent threats on a public bus makes little sense to me. Maybe someone else gets your point and can explain it to me.
I'm siding with the white guy in this matter. The black dude escalated it and deservedly got knocked out. He leakin.
