    I agree with you.
AB is a good scorer and is still impoving. But as a PG, his passing skill to teammates at the right place and at the right time still has a long way to go. He is still not good to run a team as a PG. He needs to work a lot on that to become a borderline all star player.

[TrueHoop] Hot and Cold in Triple Overtime

    http://espn.go.com/blog/truehoop/post/_/id/12288/houston-hot-and-cold-in-triple-overtime

    On Brooks' hot night:

    [rquoter]
    ...

Now that's a guy with a hot hand.

Right? Did you see that last play? Aaron Brooks basically beat all five Minnesota defenders by himself.

But ... that play made me think. Doesn't Aaron Brooks play for Houston GM Daryl Morey, who organized the conference in Boston (this year's is coming up, by the way -- get on that) where John Huizinga (the agent of Yao Ming, who also plays for Morey) and Sandy Weil presented a convincing paper demonstrating that the hot hand, if it exists at all, is extremely rare?

Is there such a thing as hotness? Was Aaron Brooks really infused with something special last night?

"I," says David Thorpe, "absolutely believe in the hot hand. No doubt about it."

Watch that highlight reel above again, and stop if with 48 seconds left in the fourth quarter. There's Brooks, in the paint, staring down the entire state of Minnesota. Wide open to his left is the cold Battier. Wide open to his right is the colder Trevor Ariza. What's the best play for the Rockets? Small man vs. big world, or wide-open shooters?

If you believe Brooks was hot, and Battier and Ariza were cold, then you'll take Brooks. But if you don't believe in the hot hand, then don't you have to go with the open shooters?

Morey shared some thoughts on this by e-mail. He had no specific answer about whether or not Brooks should have shot or passed on that play. But he did care that Brooks was rolling: "I believe that generally younger players play better (and this can include shot making) when confident, and making shots absolutely impacts their confidence. Shane Battier, Luis Scola and David Andersen are all very consistent players whose play seems unaffected by whether their last shot has gone in or the game situation (e.g. end of a close game), etc. I do think the rest of the team is affected by their recent play and the game situation to different degrees depending on the player."

That last shot is amazing. Switching to the left hand and perfect english on the ball. Brilliant.

Wasn't there just a thread on this? did you delete it to put it in this thread?
I think a separate thread on this is worth it.

This definitely makes sense that the younger players are affected more by the outcome of their previous shot.

When not commenting on whether he should've passed or not, I interpret it as: Brooks has not yet reached his ceiling. When his confidence is that high, there's no stopping him, and he is likely to make the right decisions. It can't be long till Brooks is no longer affected by previous shots as much... when that happens, he will be one of the top PGs around.

Yet another dimension to Morey's team's stat analyses. Incredible.

YES!!, I agree, I couldn't have put it better myself....

Now, don't get me wrong, I like Brooks, but people on this board tend to overrate him...

Finally something I can agree with you on. Borderline All-Star starter is stretching it a little. He's still has a ways to go to catch up to Williams, Parker, and Paul. He may eventually get there but he's not there yet.

Luck has nothing to do with it.

I had faith that eventually you would get with the program.

Feels good to be right, doesn't it?

    From the TrueHoops article:
To be fair, some credit should be given to Hayes, who ran out as if he was going to set a pick just as Brooks made his move against rookie Jonny Flynn. The way Hayes timed it, the Minny center who followed him had no chance to run back and therefore was completely taken out of the play. The other Wolves players were slow to compensate and left Brooks a (still difficult) path to the basket.

It was a combination of a great play by Brooks, great timing by Hayes, great play call by Adelman, and a defensive lapse by the Wolves.

Wow, only on clutchfans would a player who put up 43 in a triple overtime thriller and hit a clutch shot like that get this gem trying to (even if slightly) discredit Brooks' shot.

Heh, sorry if you think I'm trying to take anything away from the clutchness that was Aaron Brooks last night.

I'm just writing what I see and what I notice, besides Brooks completly beating Flynn off the dribble, is Hayes doing a great job taking the Minny center out of the play and opening up the lane, and the other Wolves players not reacting fast enough to close it back up.

Their wings weren't guarding Battier and Ariza open in the corner, but they weren't quick enough to close in on Brooks either. If it were the Rockets on the defensive end, that would be considered a defensive lapse, no?

As did I. The mods feel differently, apparently. I thought it was pretty interesting.

i hold my judgment on AB.

the day AB clowns on Deron Williams, Chris Paul, and Steve Nash each at least once or twice in a single season, i'll admit that AB is an All-Star.

so far, i haven't seen AB clowning on the all-stars. i have missed some games, but, for the most part, AB doesn't CLOWN on the all-star he's going up against.

Not exactly the same, but ask Kevin Durant, Joe Johnson, or LaMarcus Aldridge about being clowned by AB. Lets also remember burning Nash and the Suns on the last play of the game last season.

I thought that play was a small bit of poetry motion and the timing of it almot seemed choreographed in that it so perfectly contrasted what Bull was saying at the very moment.

Durant kind of looks unathletic for a brief moment.

    This is a funny video.

I'm not sure how much Brooks had to do with the guy tripping but 0:10-0:14 cracks me up every time.
