Yeah I see it now. They were also standing in oncoming traffic. After he pushed he back, she went into superb@tch mode and wouldn't do what he said anymore.
ILoveTheRockets is helping me stay awake at work today with some ridiculous posts. Thanks! I saw this clip on the news in the breakroom at work yesterday. As many have said: a) The cop could have handled it better if he had exercised more patience and understood his situation (older lady, no chance of anything happening, etc.) b) The cop was NOT out of line. He had to do something to get her to comply, because simple words were not working, nor were threats of harm. And he warned her, loudly and clearly enough for a camera much further away from him than the woman was. c) Using physical force may have resulted in broken bones, and he'd have been in a worse position than he is in now d) She could have broken a bone just as easily falling from the tase. Luckily, she didn't (as far as I've heard) e) I'm sympathetic because she's an old lady who got tased. But she's an idiot (unless something comes out about mental issues, lack of proper medication, drunkenness--which would be a different kind of idiocy, etc.). Don't f with the police. Even if you're in the right, why the hell do you go around messing with people who have authority, weapons, and are completely focused on you? Do what they say, within reason... and signing papers is within reason. Not to mention the fact that she was in the wrong!
Can we stop saying this now? There are any number of ways that woman could have brought harm to herself or the officer in that situation.
The minority in this thread that thinks the taser is wayyyy out of line.. I'll throw this out there. Cops are faced with all kinds of things from day to day. They deal with EVERy type of person out there. They are taught to expect the unexpected and deal with the worst. Their lives are always on the line, and they need to protect themselves. When 5 year olds pull guns, it's not out of the question for a granny to make a mad dash for her car and run...or pull a bat out of the trunk, or whatever the case may be. Basically.. they can't afford the luxury of assumptions when it comes to their lives. Some people will go to great lengths to escape the most minute of violations (we've all seen those ridiculous car chases on SpikeTV or whatever ending in crazy crashes over a stupid 15-over speeding ticket).
nope. I mean, if you read my whole response...maybe it'll make sense? I think he could have handled it and gotten a better outcome in this situation. But I'm not saying that he should have. I think he was right. Maybe I didn't articulate that well.
I did read your whole response, but assuming that the granny wasn't going to cause any trouble is just plain stupid. You're on the side of the road, she obviously doesn't want to comply... she has already attempted to get back in her car and flee... a 72 year old can fire a gun, and she is obviously acting irrational and combative... you can't assume the situation is "harmless" when she is giving you EVERY reason to think otherwise.
The cop put his self in danger when he pulled a car over on the side of the highway. You are already in danger when a cop pulls you over on the highway. Maybe he should have told her to pull over into the grass and MAYBE they MIGHT have been out of harms way. He put the woman in danger when he asked her to step to the back of the truck. So it's not only until the ruckus starts that he starts worrying about safety? BRILLIANT!

NAHHH, I'm just looney.
Once again, a video that has nothing to do with this discussion. Stop using Youtube as your argument please.
I love it, it has now become an argument that pulling people over is dangerous. I'm not sure if he prefers that cops let everyone go for everything... or if he was serious about pulling them over into the grass. Tailspins galore, whoooo! wow, where have you been since you joined 8 months ago or whatever? There have surely been cop threads since then if that's what gets you riled up..
Well, that just MAKES ME MAD. I am going to start a petition ONLINE to make cops stop pulling people over on the highway. DARN IT, IT's DANGEROUS!!!! Shut up, everyone, don't stop me from doing it. DEATH TO ALL POLICE OFFICERS WHO STOP PEOPLE ON THE HIGHWAY! DEATH TO THEM ALL!!! It also leads to tasering old, weak, 72-year-old, speeding, law-defying ladies who do nothing worse than get arrested. DEATH to all cops.
Also since you are using Youtube as your argument, this is what I think of it. <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/940rzFtFNbs&hl=en&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/940rzFtFNbs&hl=en&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
Actually, I was responding to Donny's post. Which was pretty much implying I have no idea what I am talking about when I said " Cops put people in danger, when they pull them over on highways". Which is 100% true. He tried refute, and I refuted back. Apparently you can't comprehend.
