The woman was non-compliant and making that situation dangerous. Arguing on the side of the road, and chasing around some old lady who is trying to jump back into a vehicle and run away is NOT safe. I don't care what you say, she wasn't helpless, she was actively making a choice to be tasered. The cop did everything he could to diffuse the situation and she wouldn't comply. The cop did the right thing and I support him 100% here. And I usually never side with the police on these sorts of things.
Do I think the granny was out of line? Yes totally. Do I think she deserved the taser? Maybe maybe no. But anyway, his supervisors are backing him up: http://www.kvue.com/video/local-index.html?nvid=369799
I'm with you on this. The old lady was escalating the situation by not signing the ticket first. There was no reason to get out of the car in the first place. When the officer tried to arrest her, she clearly resisted and tried to run, thinking the cop wouldn't do anything. Think of the alternative. He would have to wrestle the lady to the floor, physically subduing her. In the process, he can break one of her bones, most likely a rib and there would be a huge lawsuit over police brutality on an old lady. Like superfob said, we sympathize for the grandma because of her age. The situation wasn't good for the cop through either route. But he followed protocol, and therefore, he was completely justified in tasering the lady.
When did people start being so nasty to cops? Look, I hate them, but if a cop tells you to simply move, or comply with something, why not do it? I don't get it. A cop can't touch you in the grand scheme of things, and you can always take something to court. What did that grandma think was gonna happen if she kept acting that way? He was gonna back down and she'd get off with speeding in a construction zone?! How stupid is she? Yes, he used a taser, yes, it could have killed her. But whats worse: using a taser, or effing with a cop on the side of the road when there's dozen's of cars passing by? In Tucson, last week, a woman was booked for speeding and DUI. The arresting officer placed her in the back of his squad car and finished up paperwork on the side of the road. Another driver came racing down the road and crashed in the back of the car killing the arrested woman. Being on the side of the road is dangerous, much more so than a taser. This woman endangered both the officer and herself. Yet, in spite of all this, we blame the guy who put his life on the line for using what we define as unnecessary force. Look, I still think cops are the kids who were bullies in school who couldn't get into college, it doesn't mean if I get pulled over I don't respect them for their service.
No, you're not. "I dare you" and refusing to put your hands behind your back when a peace officer asks you to do so warrants a warning. FURTHERMORE, walking away when an officer WARNS YOU of the potential of being tasered clearly deserves a tasering. So... eh... defiant citizens should all carry "prior medical conditions" cards for officers to decide if they can tase them or can't? I don't get what your point is about this. If the grandma here in question KNEW that she had a condition, she should have thought twice before challenging the officer when he gave her many warnings before doing what he did to her.
I highly agree..given the situation, tasering her was a better choice than physically wrestling her. She could have very easily gotten broken several bones at that age & of course watching her attitude she probably would've sued the department. that being said...I've completely TIRED of the 'victim' mentality of people who break the law. She completely lied to the reporter from Fox 7 in her interview and now she looks real bad. I think if you're cooperative with cops, in general they'll be nice back. I've known several & they were all great people, and the cops I've been pulled over by were fairly nice & respectful..even the ones that gave me tickets were nice about it, probably because I was respectful to them. Even if you watch Cop reality shows, the people who are respectful to the cops, get treated well. But those same cops can be a jerk to people that give them crap.
Whatever happened to piledriving her to the ground and cuffing her up?Seriously taser should only be used when someone intends to do bodily harm against the police officer. This was too much, he tried to handcuff her but she resisted so you wait for back up arrive and take her down. Granny wasn't going anywhere.
You can try to justify it anyway you please. Doesn't make it right. I am sure if that were your grandmother you would be having a different take on the situation. The cop is a douchebag for even tasing an elderly person who he has no idea about their Medical history. What if that old lady had a metal stint in her heart and it made her die? Yeah, way to support a piece of **** that has to resort to a taser gun against a 72 year old lady. Keep supporting those piece of crap cops that do this. They work for us, WE don't work for them... get it right.
I remember a thread a few days/weeks ago, IIRC, where people were saying that a choke hold was unreasonable and the subject should have been tazered. It seems to me that some people just generally aren't fond whatever it is that the police do under any circumstances. What the officer should have done is what the rules of his department say he should have done. I read another news outlet's version of the story and, it sounds like he followed official procedure exactly.
So in other words, if someone is SPEEDING. They have the right to die? LMFAO...THIS IS AMERICA, NOT NAZI GERMANY YOU DUMMY.
or what if she was an supervillian and electricity only made her stronger?! then we would all be screwed. stupid cops. don't they know we pay their salaries?!
Procedure my ass.. SHE IS A 72 YEAR OLD WOMAN. Give me 2 minutes with that cop alone. I'll show him what someone could do when they can actually harm his punk ass.
Your right, because people 72 or older are somehow immune from being criminals or hurting people. Signed, If you are really wise at 72 and deserving special treatment, you should be wise enough to not pick a fight with the cops.
One of my grandmas used to act like that.... I think a good tasing would have taken her down a peg or two. My other grandma would never have acted like that. She wouldn't have sped in the first place. But even if she had, she would have just signed the dang ticket. And she would have been courteous to the officer.
