So Rocket River and ILoveTheRockets are defending her because they have had bad experiences with cops?

For the record I'm not defending her but I think the cop used excessive force.

The Tazer is suppose to be a last line of defense before using a lethal method of defense. Not a do what I say or you'll get tazed. That cop never feared for his life and was never in danger. He could have made her comply without using excessive force and his conflict resolution skills suck. If I were running things I'd fire his ass in a second.

I totally agree, his skills at communication and deductive reasoning are screwed up.

This is a 72 year old lady for crying out loud.....he should have been able to reason with her....

What a joke some of the police are these days....

Reason with her about what?? She was speeding in a construction zone and daring the officer to taze her. Last time I checked, speeding tickets are non-negotiable.

    Officer: Ma'am, I'm writing you a ticket for going 65 in a 45.

Lady: Well I'm not going to sign it, EFF OFF!!

Officer: I'm sorry ma'am, how about I just give you a warning instead?

    Lady: EFF YOUR MOTHER

Officer: Very good, ma'am. I'm very sorry for wasting your time. Have a nice day.

    LOL.

She is part of the public
Tazing her was not protecting her.

My guess is that rocketriver and Ilovetherocks are both very likely to be candidates for a tazing every time they encounter an officer of the law.

Officer: Sir, I pulled you over because you're tail light is out.
RR/Ilov..:What're you going to do give me a ticket now?
Officer: No sir, but you need to get this fixed before...
RR/Iluv: Oh, now you're gonna tell me what I gotta do? You pulled me over because I'm [fill in your race]?
    Officer: No sir, I...
RR?Iluv...: You going to arrest me if I don't get it fixed?
Officer: No sir, I was just going to give you a warning but...
RR/IluV: So now you're going to give me a ticket? I'm not signing it.
Officer: Can you step out of the car sir?

He warned her 9 times before he would tase her. She did not comply ANY of those times. Trying to physically subdue an adult, who I would say was probably 120 lbs, on a busy highway is DANGEROUS. Pepper spraying a person on the side of the road would cause the person to cringe in pain, possibly running into traffic. The officer did the right thing. He was patient and he used non-lethal force to subdue a person who violated the law.

OK, this is definitely NSFW and might even offend some people. But this entire incident reminds me of this funny scene in this extremely funny movie.

While I agree that the old b**** deserved everything she got, the constable should have worked harder to diffuse the situation.

When she said "Just take me to jail," he could have said something like:

"Ma'am, I understand you're upset and there's no reason I should have to take you to jail. Signing the ticket is not an admission of guilt and you will have the opportunity to prove your innocence in court if you don't believe that you were speeding."

While I guess not necessary, I'm sure the guy, if given the opportunity, would have gone back and done more to diffuse the situation rather than get all of this negative publicity.

While I really don't want to see an old lady get tasered, I really can't say the cop was in the wrong. It's not like he just pulled the taser out and hit her up off guard. He told her he was going to taser her if she didn't comply once and she was basically like I dare you. Then he told her to back up and she was like I'm going to my car and tried to walk around him...basically saying F you mr cop man. Then he pushed her back like I told you to back up, and gave her another warning about being tasered before he lit her up. So unless your argument is old people don't have to follow instructions and can tell cops go to hell because I'm old...then I don't see how you can down the cop. I mean, I can understand the whole "you should be able to cuff an old lady" argument. But he warned this lady at least twice before he lit her up and she was basically like F you...

And to top things off, she lied about not being combative when she went to the news station before this video was released. In that video, she is clearly rude and combative to the officer.

I saw this video yesterday, and my initial reaction was, "good, she shouldn't have been resisting arrest."

I re-watched it today and I thought, "good, old lady's mouth was writing checks her *** couldn't cash.

    It was by the highway.
    She was resisting arrest.
    Cars were passing.
= danger to the public/officer/old lady.

Sure, he could have tackled her to the ground or thrown her against the car and wrenched her arms behind her back. If that had happened, there would still be people complaining about cops being out of control.

    Bravo, Officer.

P.S. Old lady seems like a complete *****.
P.P.S. "Unreal, feals like an electric shock." & "All of this is a lie." lolz.

The cop needs to be fired and that granny needs to be charged with disobeying a police officer's orders.

What pisses me off is how unprofessional this cop was. Oh, and before some of you swoop in here and start crying and making excuses for cops don't. Nobody makes them do that job so if they are going to do it they had better have the right mental tools to do it correctly. Screaming and shoving an old lady and then tasering her is wrong, wrong, wrong.

Why the hell do we bother training theses guys or teaching them any law enforcement skills when all they do is pull out their gun or taser the sh#t out of someone the minute the situation gets complicated?

She was mad and instead of talking to her like a human being he starts giving orders without explaining things to her and when that doesn't work he yells, shoves and then shocks this lady into submission.

I'm guessing you didn't watch the full unedited video. He didn't pull out the taser the minute something happened. He gave her a number of warnings.

I watched the whole thing. The taser should have never been pulled in this situation. Nobody was in danger. My point was that this police officer was completely unprofessional and dangerous. He either does not have or will not use the mental tools that a police officer needs to have.

Just because a cop tells you he is about to do something doesn't make it right. The lady was upset and probably didn't understand why she was being pulled over or what the process was once she was pulled over. He never tried to explain that to her or calm her down. It's not the job of the police to order citizens around. It's their job to serve us and to do it professionally and with some courtesy.
