Let’s go! Best thread of the year. What number should Wemby wear? I say 69. David Stern didn’t allow Rodman to rock that but maybe Adam Rainbow Silver might.
As I said in another thread, there is about a 4% chance that we are position to draft Wemby and that he actually amounts to anything in the NBA.
i've tried not to even entertain the idea of landing Wemby... but a front court of Smith+Yama is too unbelievable to think about. The defense and floor spacing these guys provide would allow even me to get to the rack.
Apples/Oranges. The horizon is over a career, not in a season. The correct statement is, there is a 4% chance that Wemby turns into a generational player for the Rockets ...meaning there is even less of a chance that Wemby ever leads the Rockets to winning a title, in his career. (ala Barkley, Stockton, Iverson, etc). Fools gold.
After last night's game, it's even less likely than I previously thought that the Rockets will be in a position for a top draft pick.
Sure, now imagine Curry Thompson Wiggins Green Wemby You can do that with ANY team, but it doesn't make it realistic.
LOL ACTUALLY.. you can't. There is a select few projected to be in the running. Yes, the Rox are one of them. Last time I checked they were near the top of the list. You think that would be a bad scenario? You know something the rest of the world is not privy to? Please share Bob.
Yeah, they aren't really though. Could they be in the lottery? Sure, but buying a lottery ticket doesn't mean you have a realistic chance of winning said lottery. I don't think it would be bad to win the lottery, just like I don't think it would be a bad thing if I won the Powerball lottery.....but in both scenarios it's highly unlikely and it would essentially take a miracle.
While I agree that the new lottery is much more egalitarian, IDK if you can compare powerball odds to 8-14% odds lol. I wouldn't call it a miracle that's for sure.
Sure, it's not quite the same, but IMO the Rockets win 30+ games, they'd be looking at something like 0.5%-3% odds at the top pick....that's hardly enough to think it's realistically going to happen. There's a 63% chance one of the bottom 5 teams land the top overall pick, those are the teams that should be talking about landing Wemby, not the Rockets.
After Day 1, Rockets still tied for last in the league, together with Nets. What's better, Rockets get two chances at Wemby since Rockets can swap with Nets' pick!
