Actually, she's doing EXTREMELY light featurettes on players - interviews, funny-funny-joke-joke, smile and look purty. What pisses ME off is that tennis fans are subjected to seeing interviews with a "tennis" player who isn't good enough to actually play but purty enough that USA thinks it would be neato to have her interviewing REAL tennis players. Oh, and if she can wear something low cut and show her tummy, all the better. Nevermind that she hasn't ever won a tournament or even come close for that matter. Ugh. Oh, yeah, she has no game. ZERO.
Nothing wrong with wearing the low cuts, and showing the tummy. She has won tournys. Just not at the pro/WTA level. She has won tournys as an amateur though against the same people in the WTA. The reason she hasn't won a tourney is because her game isn't good enough for todays type of female tennis. She is a finese player. Today's women game is now more towards the power serve instead of the finese serve and volley. Her 102 MPH serve will not cut it against the powerful 125 mph serve of the Williams and the Davenports. Remember Martina Hingis? Same type of player as Anna, except she was more polished. Does anybody hear from the Swiss Miss anymore? No, because she is in the same mold as Anna. A finese player. And yes, she has been close to winning tournements. And big ones too. She made it to the finals of the Family Circle Cup, where she lost in the Finals to Venus. She lost in the Semi-Finals to eventual champ Steffi Graf at Wimbledon. Wimbledon is a Grandslam event. There. I don't mind fighting the cause for Anna haters. Everybody is on one side of the fence or the other with her.
Her doubles titles came with players FAR better than she was and, in doubles, it doesn't require the same type of game and athleticism needed to win at singles. I saw a doubles match with her earlier this year and her serve was cringe-worthy. Kam: I'm not a hata. I'm an annoya. It annoys the hell out of me that she gets so much screen time even during events where she loses. They often cut away from genuinely good matchups to show her getting her ass kicked or playing doubles just so they can get her on TV. It would be one thing if she were a really good player. If she becomes one, hey, great for her. And, frankly, I'm not even blaming her. I'm mostly blaming the networks for wasting air time. It would be like them cutting 5 minutes out of a Rockets game to show a shirtless 12th man for the Clippers doing interviews in the crowd. It's annoying.
She was top ten ranked in singles at best, so she can't be that bad of a tennis player. Actually, I really like her, because she can volley well. I think that how well someone volleys is a good indication of their natural talent.
he tennis game isn't worth the hype she gets... but she is (was?) a MUCH better player than many give her credit for.
She was ranked as high as number 7 in the world. No too shabby. Not exactly number 6 in the world, nor number 1 in the world.
Anna is the Beckham of tennis, to some degree. It's not her fault that she is so good looking, and a decent tennis player as well. In terms of skill, she is no match to some of the others - but yet the people don't call only for performance but also for entertainment. They want the characters, the beauties - unfortunately. I suppose she is good looking enough for that to carry her... I don't think people tend to think of her as only a tennis player, but rather a celebrity. Something of a supermodel. So, I would not like it if she hogs time away from others who are better than her during tennis - BUT I do not mind if she becomes famous otherwise. As a tennis player, though, she is not very accomplished at all. The last few years have been terrible - she hasn't done anything. In those terms she should hardly be given screen time during tournaments.
