yes surf, i agree with you bud.... I was really bummed that FGtH didn't even jam... Kajagoogoo, sounded pretty good. Romeo Void, that was a good episode too, I felt sorry for the sax player, he's no longer able to play due to tinnitus/deafness... I think it's amazing that they get one or two days to practice and they actually play a show!! Being a big 80's fan myself, I find this show very entertaining.
Well, tonights episode was a complete load. Extreme? Did they even have a following? It was only a half hour. If the guys didn't want to do it, why put the show on the air? In the promo last night, they mentioned something about one of the band members sleeping with another band member's wife. Tonight, they didn't even mention it. I'm guessing that's why the guitarist didn't want to do it. Maybe he saw the promo and threatened to sue or something, hence the halfway aborted episode. Anyway, this was the first episode that blew chunks. I still hope this idea catches on and they do a bunch more bands in the future. The Police would be nice, but that ain't happenin'. rH, that sax player broke my heart too! That poor guy was the only one in the band that couldn't perform and he had to watch some session player take his place. It was killing him. I can't imagine being in that position.
I haven't watched the show yet, but I am a big fan of the bassist from Kajagoogoo, Tony Franklin. He is a tremendous player specializing in fretless and is still a very in-demand session and live player. He's played with Jimmy Page, David Gilmour, Paul Rogers, Eric Bourden, Alvin Lee and on and on. He's probably the only guy in that band still working as a musician and deservedly so.
The problem was the guitarist, Nuno Bettencourt. That guy is an ass. He did a clinic at a music store where I worked and he was a jerk. He got pissed because a bunch of us were poking fun at him being short. We thought it would be just good-natured ribbing, but he took it personally. Last I heard of him, he married the singer from the band Baby Animals. I think they shouldn't do bands where the players still have potential careers. Extreme is just way too recent. They need to stick with 80's and earlier.
the only band reunion concert I'd want to see in the near future is Mission of Burma. March 18, Austin, TX at SXSW. And maybe the Pixies, but I'd wager they picked the right time to quit when they did 12 years ago.
Yeah, I have a friend that went to Berklee School of Music and he said that guy used to give master classes up there all the time. He's no Mark King, but it was clear from watching that episode that he can really play. Also, the guitarist was quite good. He's currently teaching and playing, so there you go. And Woofer, Terry Nunn is still very hot. Maybe even hotter now.
Yowza. She was like a super model then, but maybe she's like the girl in The L Word who was OK when she was very young but is smoking now.
It's true. http://www.nme.com/news/106133.htm We'll see if they follow through. Hopefully they'll do a new album. It should be interedting if they do.
Uh....Tony Franklin in Kajagoogoo?? I was never a fan of the group...but I am a fan of Tony's.. as in the Tony Franklin of Blue Murder, The Firm, and Project Driver...along with some work with Gary Hoey, Carmine Appice and many others Your description jibes with the Tony Franklin I am thinking of...fretless playing session player that contributed some great bass stuff to numerous great albums.....except he didnt play with Kajagoogoo to my knowledge..
I've never met Nuno Bettencourt, but I would have bet any amount of money that he would react exactly the way he did when they approached him. I'm surprised VH1 even bothered contacting him.
