Like us 29-yr olds? I would wager I listen to as much of "whats out there" as you do. The difference is, I think most of it sucks balls. That means neither that you have broader exposure to music nor that I'm "middle aged". It means that what constitutes AOR music nowadays is sludgy, derivative, self-absorbed whiny bull****.
You're starting to sound a little bit like a musical snob... Why can't us "middle aged guys" have it both ways? Sure, I like my DLR era VH, Supertramp, and Journey but I also like my Death Cab For Cutie, Ben Folds Five, Radiohead, Ten Hands, not to mention a bunch of bands no one has heard of.
Sammy Hagar is a joke, you don't have to be 24 to see that. But Van Halen in its prime completely destroys any band of your generation.
Thanks for the heads up you really listed some cutting edge bands that I need to check out. Linkin park...pffffffft you need to shut-up. ---------------- O U 8 1 2
I read an EVH interview where Eddie said he had 10 albums worth of material that he had created in all this time off. He sounded like their getting ready to come roaring back. There's been a lot of speculation that Hagar and VH are going to be back together. I would just like to have VH back in any form to see what EVH has come up with on guitar. Period. With all his time off, if he doesn't have some masterpieces in there, then my EVH rating may have to drop(some more). DLR's a clown and SH's a caba waba. Just get the band a singer or tour as an instrumental-only band. For cying out loud... Surf
I have to agree here, and I'm 23. 1981 Van Halen just demolishes anyone trying to get on the radio today. I can't even remember the last time I heard a new band on the radio when I didn't think "I can play that. Easy." Guns 'n Roses is an even better example. I still listen to their discs and it's very striking how much more balls they had than anyone today has even thought of having. I mean, Staind? This **** is supposed to be rock and roll? What? Trapt? Huh? And those "punks" Good Charlotte, AFI and company? Black Flag would have spit gasoline and lit them on fire 20 years ago. Of course there's the underground and there's plenty of nuts-hangin' rock being played there but the pu$sy-a$s trends bleed over there, as well. I know that shredding on guitar and beating the hell out of a drumkit are just as fun now as they were when I was born, so I can't really understand why people are afraid to do it anymore. That doesn't mean I want to see self-parodying acts like "Van Halen" v. 3.4 or "Guns 'n NIN," either. It just pains me to see a new generation grow up so pu$sy.
