Gees I was really wrong with Shawn Respert and what ever happened to the other guys in the Fab 5 and what about that guy who played for UNC was it Donald Williams or something, he was going to be a star. Smeg ------------------ CUT Tino Isn't it amazing how quickly everyone did a Cat Backflip!!!!!
Harold "baby MJ" Minor LOL ! ------------------ We would like to get rookie Francis on the break for some easy scoops in the first quarter...
Not sure if Billy Owens was lottery, but I thought his game was going to carry over. Walter Berry. Man was he ever silky smooth at St. Johns. I swore hed be a solid player too. I Swear if Sam Bowie didnt have the bum wheels, Id be correct about his stock.
how about calbert cheaney ? loved his game in college. randolph childress ? I thought duncan was a bit overrated, boy was i wrong. ------------------ "Don't they get cable in Canada ?" Keith olbermann, after watching hakeem block terry catledge's shot 5 times.
im in this thread way too much, but what the hell. bobby hurley- i thought this guy was gonna be great. I also thought owens was gonna be a pippen type player. ------------------ "Don't they get cable in Canada ?" Keith olbermann, after watching hakeem block terry catledge's shot 5 times.
nah i though Booby Hurley would be a flop even before the car accident. Corliss Williamson has to be a big disappointment and what have his so-called great teamates amounted to, Scotty Thurman and Corey Beck. can i repeat Shawn Respert was #8 pick in 1995, I thought he had some game and they even gave him game in NBA LIVE computer game Khalid Reeves was a pretty good college player Whatever happened to the #14th pick in 1993, one Scott Haskin Alec Keesler (#12 in 1990), now that was a good trade by the Rockets even for Dave Jamerson and Carl Herrera ------------------ CUT Tino Isn't it amazing how quickly everyone did a Cat Backflip!!!!! HP -- Thanks for starting this thread! I've been lurking on the BBS since the Quitten trade (first one), but this thread got me out of lurk mode. Here are my contributions: 1. I was sure that Steve Harris was the missing piece for a championship. 2. I was convinced that Greg Graham was the perfect fit at point guard and crestfallen when we had to "settle" for Sam Cassell. 3. And yes, I will now come forward and publicly admit that I was among the masses who thought we blew it by not picking Baby Jordan. Just so y'all know I'm not a complete idiot ... I was PUMPED to get Othella in the 2nd round (had seen him play when I lived in DC) and I prayed for months before the 98 draft that Dickerson would fall into our laps ... ------------------
Well, I'm pretty much never wrong in evaluating college talent. I said Vince Carter was the best player in the 1998 draft. I knew Garnett was going to blow up (Come on, any kid who comes within 3 blocks of averaging a quadruple double in one of the toughest prep leagues in the nation has got to have serious game). I thought Lamar Odom should have been a top 10 pick in the 1998 draft before he withdrew. Korleone Young was an extremely easy read. I think everyone got Rashard Lewis's draft spot dead wrong. I completely missed on Reggie Freeman. I thought he was a sure fire 1st rounder in 1997 and he went completely undrafted (by the way, my basketball career highlight is beating Wayne McGarrity down court and receiving a Reggie Freeman pass for a lay in). I knew Darvin Hamm would have been a steal for anyone in the 2nd round in 1996(the 2nd most exciting college basketball player behind Vince Carter in my books. Anyone who saw him try to jump one foot past the free throw line over Othella Harrington and Jahidi White for barely miss the jam would have been impressed). I really thought Jonathan Bender was going to slip last year. I hit Andre Miller on the head(I told Toronto to draft his ass, but they didn't listen to me. Could of had a damn good PG for the next 10 years instead of just plain ole Antonio Davis). Oh yeah, Shawn Bradley was a classic bust in my eyes before the 93 draft. Trajan Langdon shouldn't have even been drafted last year( the Cavaliers need to make me GM instead of Jim Paxston.) ------------------
gr8-1- LARUE MARTIN??? I'll see your Martin and raise you an Ed Ratleff and a Benoit Benjamin!!! LOL Glad to see we can claim draft vets with 25+ years experience... Try these relic busts... (bust relics?) Neal Walk. Marty Byrnes. Kyle Macy. Rick Robey. William Bedford. Keith Lee. (the last two are virually interchangeable Memphis players) Cat- there was a time when I played on this court a lot more than I do now... my 'fly on the wall' stories have nothing on popeye's, and particularly now that I live in Austin they're few and far between. I doubt that my 'Clyde Drexler is a surly jerk' story will get the team in league trouble, especially now that everyone knows it. U of H, you should have seen it coming... ------------------ "We have no eternal allies and we have no perpetual enemies. Our interests are eternal and perpetual."
Keth Lee huh. I got to believe his problem was focus, because he was just so much more gifted than most 6 10 guys. I knew Dell Curry was a legit shooter though (a player he played againt). How about the hard nosed Micheal Graham. I saw him play some semi-pro games 10 or so year ago, never could make it big time either. Danny Ferry has to be one of the biggest busts. How about Pearl Washinton. The guys he used to beat on (Kenny Smith, Mark Jackson) ended up being much better players. Brad Sellers anyone??, How about Stacy King? A lot of flashy unstoppable-in-college smaller guards never make it. BJ Tyler (not even as good as BJ Armstrong for gods sake), Lamar (or was it Anderson) Hunt, Labradford Smith, Childress, Respert, and that Colorado guy I am blanking on. Iverson, Marbury & Francis have broken through obviously. ------------------ "The Rockets were ahead of the Suns by 20 late in game 2 of the series, but when the going got tough, we just Pippened . We would not be done in the series though."

I thought for sure that the Rockets would have looked into drafting Ansu Sesay out of Ole Miss. He was a local kid and a great college player without much publicity. I figured he would be one of Rudy and CD's great picks but i think he was one of the last guys chosen ( the Mavs got him and I think he is out of the league now ).
Just wondering... Was Miles Simon ever drafted. I remember a couple of years ago the guy was phat on the cover of Sports Illustrated leading the Wildcats to another championship. I thought he would be another good Arizona point guard product--ala Bibby. ------------------ When I die I want to go peacefully like my grandfather. Not screaming like the passengers in the back seat!
Sir Scarvajal: The CU guard you're thinking of is probably Chauncey Billups. I always thought he came out too early ... guess I was right on that one for once ... And I believe it was Anderson, not Lamar, Hunt. Isn't Lamar Hunt some billionaire? Name sounds familiar from one of my other lives ... Nice call on Stacey King. I thought he was gonna be a monster! Talk about a player who didn't have the desire to get better (or to stay off the cheesburgers, for that matter). Rocketman95: I'm with you on BMW. I thought Wright and Mays were gonna be good ones or at least have a decent NBA career. Had my doubts about Blanks, though. He was drafted by the Orlando Magic with, if I can remember correctly, somewhere between the 30th and 45th picks. Miles is a story of another great college shooting guard who just didn't have the size to play in the NBA. I think he measured out to be like 6'3 at the pre-draft camps. He also had no elevation on his jumpshot.
Terry Teagle, Buck Johnson, Derick Cheivous. I bought into them all. WHOOOOPPPSSS !!! DaDakota ------------------
Man, where do I start? Anyone remember Dontonio Wingfield of Cinci? 1993 draft had many - Bradley at 2 Luther Wright from Seton Hall at 9 Terry Dehere - Seton Hall at 13 Acie Earl at 19 out of Iowa - not sure why I liked him. Then the 1991 draft - Mark Macon at 8th overall out of Temple Leron Ellis at 22 Todd Day out of Arkansas in 1992 - 8th overall I could go on and on. To think, I thought these guys would pan out into good players. I also thought Pervis Ellison, Billy Owens, and Byron Houston would be good. YIKES! I have had some good predicions too, like Jalen Rose and Vin Baker out of little known Hartford. I remember him playing for them and he used to work out with Kevin McHale when he was younger. ------------------ HOOP-T Hey Shaq, Acme called, and they want their bricks back! Did someone mention the Fab Five? I played in high school wiht one of them - Jimmy King. He and Ray Jackson were playing in the CBA as of last year. I don't think King is anymore. I had heard he was going to play overseas this year. As you well know the other three are in the NBA. ------------------ HOOP-T Hey Shaq, Acme called, and they want their bricks back!
