Anyone know who Reef's agent is? If it's Falk (Mo) or Fegan (Shandon), we could be able to keep them around. Rockets R' Us-Shareef doesn't have a say in the deal really. It'd be a perk for him coming here (so is being coached by Rudy over the summer), but he's under contract for like the next 7 seasons or so. Reeves will be attached with Reef no matter what, or at least a guy like Brent Price, and a few other bad contracts. If you can get Shandon and/or Mo to commit (willing to sign a smaller contract), and can get Reef, even with Reeves, you MUST do it. We can this offseason, even if we are capped out, give Shandon a deal even better than Cuttino's (Early Bird), AND give Mo the mid level exception, which would be 4-4.5 mill. ------------------ The Serious Police are watching. Follow the rules or be assimilated. Shandon is underrated.
I think the only way this trade works without giving up Dream is having a 3rd Team involved. Only teams that have caproom are the Bulls, the Bulls, and..let me think....oh yes, the Bulls! But it'd be hard to see what Chicago would get out of this trade if they weren't getting Reef. Time to visit RealGM.com! ------------------ Francis out top, 9 seconds on the clock, he gives a no look pass to Cuttino Mobley, 4 seconds left, Mobley passes to an open Langhi in the corner with 1 second left! Langhi at the buzzer.......YES!!! How Sweet It Is!!
a few comments chicago wont land shareef. he wants to play for a contender. besides he might not like the triangle offense and no1 wants to play for krause these days. besides chicago has their own draft picks and not alot of others. and trade bait? who are they going to offer? fizer? swift is their future 4. artest is a good bench player at best. they dont need a 2. dont even get me started on their PGs Centers etc. believe it or not i can see shareef going to orlando. not necessarily for hill but since the magic have a whopping 8 future owed 1st round picks. that and mike miller is a good player.. portland doesnt not need another star. dont see him going there. rasheed has become their star and go to man. believe it or not pippen sucking is good since he is now what he always was.. a role player. i agree w/ the idea that a 3 way trade is needed. we would have to dump walt to some team that needs scoring and veterans. chicago could actually use him golden st. could and miami also could use him off the bench. just throwing teams out there. even toronto needs some scoring to compliment carter. collier's salary doesnt figure to be important. cato would need to be moved in a 3 way. new york would like to have him i think. toronto needs a center also. and so does detroit who will have caproom. kenny thomas and our draft picks are pretty decent trade bait. langhi might need to be moved for salary SA is not good trade bait now since he isnt playing well. ------------------ --TEX [This message has been edited by TeXaSalsa (edited December 31, 2000).]
It is possible that Chicago wants Cato. They inquired about him before. The centers they have under contract are either major-ass stiffs or hired only with future trades in mind (Brad Miller). Bryce Drew has played two exceptional games lately after returning from injury; he might find a home in Chicago (or, again, he, too, could be packaged). Would Chicago take Cato? I have a question for Achebe, Juan, HeyP, somebody: If we send Cato to Chicago, could we combine such a trade with a former trade? i.e., scratch our first trade of Drew for 2 2nd rounders and say: Cato + Drew = Chicago first rounder? Even if they would go for it, is that allowed? ------------------
ROXTXIA, You don't have to think of that as 'redoing' a trade... you could perhaps accomplish the same end by structuring the agreement to cancel out previously owned picks. TexasSalsa, Is a three way really needed? Bullard - 2.2M Carlos - 2.2M Walt - 5.0M 3 million American dollars. This gets you pretty close. Throw in KT for starch, two unconditional first round picks and hope to hell that Shareef is a quick learner (and that Langhi's a good backup). Van waives Matt, the Rockets reclaim him everyone's happy. The 3 Million balances out part of Walt's contract for next year... and Carlos is a FA next year (according to NBATalk). Everyone else that has the players to make this happen has a major hurdle in Van's eyes... their picks suck. ------------------ You don't normally see a shot-blocker out there shooting 3s like that. - Matt Bullard
DONT TRADE KENNY! I dont know about the rest of yal, but I love Kenny. The guy give his all, rebounds like a monster(13 boards in 27 minutes), and is clutch in tight games. I mean you all musta seen how many rebounds he fought for and won on the defensive end when Dallas was on their run. No way do we trade Kenny. He is part of the rockets future ------------------
So one 13 board game made KT untouchable all of a sudden eh? Lets just ignore the fact that he shoots a whopping 40% from the field which is just an incredible pct for a PF and parks himself behind the arc despite his stellar 30% accuracy from that area. I dont know how the Rockets could ever replace such brilliance. ------------------ Check out the Best Source for Draft Info Draftsource.net
the rockets must have an undersized PF at all time. kenny thomas is tha man. lol MManal that was the funniest post ive read in a while. kenny has potential to be a good offensive force. not sure he can do it tho. ------------------ --TEX
I'm not sure what Reef does for this team. We already have plenty of scoring options - Cat, Steve, Taylor, Thomas, Anderson (if they would ever run anything for him). I think the Rockets need SIZE, rebounding and shotblocking, out of the frontcourt. I love KT, but watching him play center is painful. Cato will never be the answer - stiff hands, no game. Where's Carlos? He looks good whenever he's on the court, goes to the glass hard, doesn't need shots to be successful. I hope Rudy gives him a good look now that he's off the IL. Anyway, why do the Grizz want to trade Reef for cap room? What free agent wants to play in the North Pole? Seems unlikely...
chicago wont land shareef. he wants to play for a contender. I think adding Reefs 20 ppg and defense to Mercers 22,23 ppg and Brands 20 ppg and 10 rbnds would help the Bulls become a playoff team in the East...it maybe too late this season...but definately next. ------------------
Reef can rebound and play strong D, he is the perfect 3 for this team. And we have the first round picks to make something happen. Unfortunately, the only 4 teams with a big expiring contract are the Rockets (who won't trade Hakeem), Hawks, Sonics, and Kings. For us to get him, it would take a 3-way deal. Maybe Kenny Thomas and Walt Williams could go to the Lakers, who send Horace Grant to Vancouver along with 3 first rounders from us, and Reef comes to Houston. ------------------
hahahahahaha chicago a playoff team next season? give me a break rahim would help your chances but u'd get 8th seed at best vancouvers starting 5 is much better than chicagos chicago will make the playoffs when they get a real pointguard who isnt a white stiff or a little dough boy. and a center who knows AMERICAN basketball btw mercer gets 23 ppg? since when? btw every1 on the bulls stats are inflated anyways since half the game is garbage time. ------------------ --TEX
a) why on earth do we want reeves???? I not all dat edumicated so i'm gonna ask what's so good about this shmuck. b)reef on the other hand is a must have rocket. 33 and 3 on the team would be great. I still think we should keep anderson, francis and mobley mooch I guess i'd keep. Mo is actually beginning to show some life believe it or not. Hakeem well are we really gonna trade a legend. so if we're gonna trade i say we trade walt and we give them kt and i say we give them langhi or collie boy and all our drafts for a while. Cato uhh maybe I'll add him too Othella well I don't know who wants him back on the bench. lineup of francis/mooch anderson/mobes/francis reef/anderson/mobes mo/orthella/los olajuwon/orthella/los. (we can always sign piggy back) Some of y'all gonna be complainin that we don't got anyone tall up there with only dream as our pilar but if ya take a close look at our fourth quarter crunch time lineup he's not even out there anyways. cato well we haven't used him yet might as well get rid of him. ------------------ "Wahooo"-homer I'm not only a fan but I'm also the bartender at clutchcity chat For the last time I'm not Tybrave!!!!!
Oh yeah 33 and 3 ont he same team meaning he'll probably end up having to take that number since wink has 3 already ------------------ "Wahooo"-homer I'm not only a fan but I'm also the bartender at clutchcity chat For the last time I'm not Tybrave!!!!!
tycoonchip-We don't want Reeves. Neither does Vancouver. Getting rid of him and his contract is a major plus on their side. HEB-You aren't counting the money as part of the trade, are you? Monetary considerations have no cap/trade bearings at all. We are owed 3/4 first round picks in the future (depending if CHI gives us a first rounder, or 2 2nd rounders), if we keep just one (say Milwaukee's to go along with our own for this year's draft), and trade the rest in a deal we'd still have our own and Milwaukee's-good enough to package to get a decent center if we want to get rid of Cato, OR get Mo Taylor/Shandon Anderson insurance. If Vancouver wants immediate cap relief, picks, a legend who wouldn't mind playing there to draw fans, it's time to talk to Hakeem about what he wants and see if the feeling is mutual. ------------------ The Serious Police are watching. Follow the rules or be assimilated. Shandon is underrated.
I dont care if you dont like Kenny that much but he is a guy that makes a difference on the court. You cant look at that undersized BS and his shooting percentage cause bottom line he makes things happen. I dont wanna trade him and I dont want over 10 million a year taking up our salary cap. Then we wouldnt be able to sign Mo or Shandon. Also you guys talk about how Reef only wants to play for a contender, well I think it's the team's decision where he is traded. Unless he has some trade clause in his contract he has no say in where he is traded so teams like the Bulls and Hawks do have a chance of landing him ------------------
I think the best course of action is to just stay with the current team. I believe Mo will be happy with the team at the end of the season, and we can re-sign him (for what price I dont know). Same goes for Shanderson. We have every position filled except Sf. And we will have some draft picks in this "deep draft" as many of us are labeling it. We can pick up our ideal Sf through the draft... Then with our new rookie Sf and Dan Langhi developing, I believe we will be set at sf also. I'm not saying that our rookie Sf would be better than Shareef, but he will probably be pretty good, and this whole trade would leave us some holes + chemistry issues. If we get Shareef, then Mo is gone. What kind of a feeling would MO & the rest of this team get if they knew that this whole year with Mo would be just a waste. I mean, what's the point of getting MO accustomed to the offense if he's just gonna bolt anyway? Just be patient and let the team grow. We already got the talent & most of the pieces of the puzzle, now we just have to wait for them to mature. ------------------ da ability to focus attention on important things is a defining characteristic of intelligence - alaskanSnowman [This message has been edited by alaskansnowman (edited January 01, 2001).]
Rahim may be available, along with a few notable names, but you have to think logically of the price. In a talented draft pool this year, it'd be foolish to trade multiple first rounders like clump change. The last thing we need is to get into the same predicament that the Grizzlies are in. ------------------ Draftsource.net [This message has been edited by rocketsfan34 (edited January 01, 2001).]
Monday's Chicago Tribune has the NBA Report on the back of the sports section. Gives good stuff. OK, so, according to The Trib: "'I don't know if we have the right mix here,'" coach Sidney Lowe said. "'Some guys are warriors. Other guys are too passive. This is a man's league. You either have it or you don't. We don't have a bad boy. We don't have a guy who will just get in someone's face. Our guys are kind of reserved, laid back.'" (This is in reference to both laconic Mike Bibby and to Shareef, recently benched in the 4th quarter during the team's only nationally-televised game. I'm guessing TNT/TBS.) Again, the Trib: "Which is one reason Bibby and Abdur-Rahim, the latter criticized for being unable to hit late-game shots, have been big names on the trade market. Bulls insiders say the team has been trying to put together a package for Bibby with offers of any two players other than Elton Brand and the Hawks are trying to deal for Atlanta native Abdur-Rahim." So there's where the competition might stand. Someone posted above that Chicago needs a point guard that doesn't suck. Looks like the Bulls are trying to do something about it. This indicates they don't necessarily want the player we want. But other than Brand, who to offer? Fizer? Vancouver has power forwards. Crawford? Overrated. Years away. Artest, Drew, some kind of draft pick is a possible combination. Shareef to Atlanta? Might cost Jason Terry. But who else? What's the name of that #6 pick from last year? Spindly two/three? Damn my memory, you know who I'm talking about. But I don't see a realistic combination of 9 million bucks. And, not to mention, Shareef's BYC status. Probably we should stand pat and grab the small forward we need in the draft, but I can't help myself, I know Rudy's always wanted Shareef on the team. Someone mentioned paying Mo the midlevel exception next year (4 million or so) and the early bird to Shandon (same). ------------------
It seems that everyone is forgetting that Hakem has laughed off the idea of going to Vancouver just recently. Personally, i would do Hakeem for Shareef (plus cap filler, and even Reeves) in a heartbeat, but the dream DOESN'T want to play there. He wants to play for a contender and has mentioned both the Heat and the Lakers. So, do we risk a PR disaster by doing the trade anyway? If Hakeem could be talked into it, i'm all for it. We would be set at PG with Francis and Norris, SG with Anderson (how much he could fetch in the open market? He's staying out and waiting for his bird rights with us) and Mobley, SF with Shareef and Langhi, PF with Mo (it would take some tricks, but it can be done) and Kenny, leaving with us only with a huge question mark at C, due to Cato's "potential". But we can fill that need through the draft if needed. One player away from being contenders? Geez... that sent chills down my spine... ------------------ "I have posted so much that what I say must be true"
