    P.S.

I think the real Darkhorse candidate in the race will be none other than the Lakers.

I'm with Almu...Webber just isnt worth listening to anymore - at least not this early in the game. I think he rather enjoys the attention...he seems to enjoy being evasive, while still tossing a few crumbs to various teams here and there to keep the interest up... Anyway, I like Webber...but this process is making me schizophrenic - I cant stand listening to his vague comments any more ...and yet, I still find myself extremely interested in what he has to say...

The Lakers would be a freaking all-star team, but if it came down to it, and you're Sacramento, would you accept a sign-n-trade to NY (the East) for players who aren't exactly what you want, or let CWebb go to your arch rival?

The Brian Grant thing is a hard comparison b/c the Blazers weren't being reactive but proactive in their deal. The Oregonian reported that the Blazers were going to trade Grant for Kemp regardless of whether or not Grant wanted to come back or not. That relationship isn't the same as Webber and NY, unless the Kings have decided that they're going to trade Webber for NY's scrap regardless of Webber's choice in the matter.

Charlotte did okay in the Eddie Jones trade. Pat Riley had strong tradeable players under contract that he could send to Charlotte. Van Gundy again has Houston that's about to opt out, oft injured Camby, overpaid LJ, overpaid Glen Rice...

wait that's it. Charlotte could send SAC PJ Brown + something and get Glen Rice back. Charlotte could easily be the third team.

Now I'm scared. I hope Webber saw the HOU-NYK game last week.

Chris Webber will use a team with capspace to convince the Kings that he will sign with that team, so they sign-and-trade him to NY or wherever, and unfortunately it will probably be Houston.

how are we better than new york? i missed these last 4 rockets games so the last games i remembered was us getting destroyed by the clippers and the heat.

I don't know about you guys but I'm noticing a trend here with the rockets. We lose a few in a row and then we win a few in a row. You know what that is? It's a .500 team.

Maybe if I watched these last few games I'd be buying into the rockets turning it around and making it to the playoffs with a rejuvinated olajuwon. It's a young team that will have many up's and down's. We're on an up right now, but don't talk about the team like they're bound for the playoffs after a 3 game winning streak.

There's nothing wrong with a .500 team in it's second year of rebuilding. I hope we get webber next season, but I don't see it happening. Throughout his career he's been with franchises that are rebuilding, I don't see why he'd want to jump onto another rebuilding team.

The reason we are better than NY is that we are in the West. I know that gets repetitive, but if we were in the East, we would be the 3rd seed. We are essentially a great East team playing in the West. We could dominate in the East. Don't rely on records alone. The East and West are vastly different and the Rockets are better than a lot of the playoff-bound teams in the East.

I am vcery hopeful. I think that our past ability to land FA's and make trades puts us in the running, but ultimately, it's up to him, I think. One thing that I think could be a key that I haven't heard much about is the new arena we will be getting. Along with our young, and rapidly improving players, the arena could be a big factor.

This argument alone makes the Knicks a better contender for Webber to go to NY. He has a better chance at getting to the Finals with the Knicks than with the Rockets. With the East being weak, don't you think he wants to go to the team that has the best chance of winning it all? Webber going to NY would make the Knicks the favorites in the East. Webber coming to Houston doesn't make the Rockets the favorites to win the West.
By the way, I'm all for Webber coming to Houston its just that the Rockets chances are not better than New York by The Voice of Reason's posted response. I love Houston but even I had to leave Houston for more money, bigger radio market(exposure), and more nightlife action. Houston doesn't even come close to New York. Webber is still a young guy that wants to be a part of the glamour and glitz which is why he wants to get the hell out of Sacramento. Sorry but other than the Colorado, Men's Club and some of the downtown scene, Houston don't have much of a nightlife, money, and glamour than New York.

Rocket Rich NY's geographical location (or "affilliation") is clear; and isn't Almu also in NY? Of course, both you guys think Webber will end up there. And I can see the argument. Certainly New Yorkers can't possibly see why Webber would rather go to Houston(?!?!) than the center of the universe (marketing, NBA office, glamour, media, stars, etc.)

A day or two ago, I glanced in the New York Times. A small article about Webber mentioned the ESPN article and Webber's preferred destination("s"). The article mentioned New York as if he ONLY wanted NY. Of course, there is the question of available space on the page, but this also points to an "us, us, us" attitude.

If New York can engineer a trade that Sacramento would like, then I'd say, sure, I was wrong; of course he'd like to be with Spree in New York. And I'm sure NY management has worked out possibilities of trading for him. But I wonder what team they would have to go through to make it happen. Detroit will have cap space; but for what player would they deal? The Pistons want Webber, although their chances are slim. Houston could go back to Detroit on his own if he opts out. What other player would be moved? Camby? Possibly, but I doubt it. Rice? Sure, NY would dump him in a heartbeat, but to which team? And he'd raise a furor if that team was Sacramento.

If NY pulls this off, I'd be stunned. Dismayed, yes, but absolutely stunned.

Webber is drinking in the attention, keeping his options open. I can't blame him. But even Shaq is now quoted as saying he'd like to return to Orlando. Gonna happen? No.

Also, New York's core of players is getting up there in age. Chris still seems, er, rather young at heart, even while he wants to play with professionals who want to win. The Rockets' core is talented and loves to play and, of course, young; he can grow with these players.

I guess the answer to "Where will Webber play?" depends on where you are.

I can, his name is Shandon Anderson. He needed a sign and trade to get from Houston what Utah was offering him. But since Houston had nothing that Utah wanted that they were willing to part with Shandon signed for considerably less with Houston and Utah ended up with squat! Yeah it seems I remember something like that.

No I don't think Webber will sign for less than the max which means he will probably need a sign and trade. But the point is that it is up to Webber. If he wants to play somewhere bad enough he can with out one single consideration to Sac.

Nightlife is the key here. I live near Washington D.C. (home of the All Star Game) and can remember from his days with the Wizards that he's all nightlife. He got in trouble repeatedly for actions he took off the court in D.C. That's why he'll go to a big city because he loves the nightlife and that's why he wasn't in trouble in Sacramento (because there is no nightlife).

Good point crash, but you keep coming back to the exception. Chris Webber said a few days ago that he wouldn't settle for the exception.

Could Mo Taylor have gotten more money with a sign and trade ?

No way will Webber play for the exception, so unless NY does something big, Webber won't be a Knick. However, I do see Dream playing for an exception (I'm hopeful), and with that, even if Mo ups and leaves us, we should have a good chance of Webber coming here.

I know you are in the NY area (Long Island?), but imagine you are the Kings GM for a moment. Would you want LJ, Childs, and K Thomas on your team? Are they good enough to make up for the departure of Webber?

    Webber == LJ + Childs + Thomas?

Do you think LJ, Childs and K Thomas are highly sought after around the NBA under their current contracts?

Fortunately and unfortunately, Houston has plenty of opportunities for Chris Webber to get into trouble. But it has its down-to-earth side, too. It's a good place to party and also to kick back. Maybe he can take the combination of laid-back Sacramento (which has kept him focused on basketball, he says) on one side and urban nightlife on the other and, hopefully, come to Houston...?

Too bad we'll have to court him in summer. Heat and humidity bogging down the pollution. But Webber is a native Detroit(-ian?-ite?-an?) so I don't factor that in too much.
