i dont think i should have played yesterday. my body is not recovering like how it should be. my chest was burning up yesterday. my chest is burning up today. unfortunately, i think i know what triggered it. It was the Joe Keem Noah Special.
Guys, I think I hit the jackpot I was driving home from my gf's apartment today, a route that I've driven more than a hundred times, but this time I noticed a little park with a basketball court beyond a fence and some trees. So I turned down the next street and went to check it out, and it turns out that it's part of the DePelchin Children's Center. However, it appears to be the center appears to be closed on the weekends and there are no signs whatsoever prohibiting the use of the park or court. If worse ever came to worst and someone asked us to leave, we could simply plead ignorance and move on. I know some people would have issue with the fact that the court is not covered, but I don't. Besides, it's absolutely perfect in every other way. It's full court, the concrete grips like it's fresh, it has all the regulation lines, and best of all the goals are badass. They're like NBA goals, with high quality glass backboards, breakaway rims, and are fully height adjustable via hydraulic crank. To get there you take I-10, exit Durham and go south (it's a 1-way street) for a couple of miles. You'll pass KICKS indoor soccer gym, a Walgreen's and a Shell station (all on your left) and then immediately take a right on Dickson. Take your first left and you'll see the park on your left. Turn in and park in the lot on the right. We should play there tomorrow. I'll be driving by it again later, so I'll snap some pictures.
damn, i wish i read this post earlier. i just drove past it. ill check it out tomorrow. i kinda work. play at five yall.
When I went back around 6:45 I saw some people in the building nearest the basketball court, but it looks like it was mostly just some kids. The other 2 buildings around the park (all part of the children's center) seemed completely void of activity. I was there for about an hour and nobody ran me off, or even came outside or anything. I checked again very thoroughly for any kind of trespassing or "For Children's Center Members Use Only" signs...but there were none. So as far as anybody there is concerned, I saw the place from the road and thought it was a public park. I even saw some families walking the dirt trail, so I had/have no reason to think I shouldn't be there. Anyway, I just hope that A) there is just nobody there on Sundays, or B) they don't get upset when a group of people shows up to play there. I guess we'll see. By the way, what time is best for everybody? I was thinking maybe a late afternoon game so we don't have to deal with the heat so much and there's less chance of people working up there at that time of day on Sunday...but I'm fine regardless. Here are the pictures I got:
Damn that looks like a nice court. I've got a sneaking suspicion though that if some young people show up and start playing ball some old fogie in the neighborhood might get all pissy and call the cops.
4pm maybe doable for me, I'm helping my sister out with their TV carousel their doing since they bought a new TV. I maybe still out though, as I'm posting this, my left foot feels like its sprain hopefully it'll shake off by morning. I'll post in the morning if its better with my status EDIT: I love GOOGLE MAPS!!! here is a rough estimate what CCR said the location is Google Maps
Man... that is a nice court. So I'm rather bad with directions, so do you have a particular address so I can google map it? So nice!
Check out Dave's post, right above yours. On the Google map he provided, the court is directly right of the "B" icon. It's the white/gray rectangular slab between Bethje St. and Shepherd Dr. You can also see the crappy baseball diamond and the walking trail.
i get off at five today, so i should be there. i am still recovering from being sick though so im not at 100%
well i'm out, my foot got worse, I think I have the same injury as Yao, (hairline) stress fracture, I've had it once a year, the past 2 years :/
I'm going to try and be there...no guarantees. Looking at that court, I put the over/under of moes crash landing into that chain link fence at Game #2.
damn that court definitely looks badass. no roof sucks but if we start late enough it shouldn't be that bad. just have to hope nobody else is using it.
Okay, pretty confident I will be there now. Might not get there until 4:30 or 5:00, but I should make it. When does the sun go down these days?
