There is only one province that Bush and Cheney would want in Canada and that is Alberta. They'll trade Vermont for it, but they'll take it by force if you make them.
Alberta is where I live. I guess I should start shopping for a good gun ... Wait! I know a better deterrent. Even in Alberta 10% of the population votes for a socialist party, and 30% votes for the Liberal party, and those numbers could go a lot higher because our recently retired premier was a populist who attracted a lot of support from across the spectrum. Never mind the guns, this ought to give Bush second thoughts.
Nah... I want BC!!! BC or Bust! No Vermont without the home of the Kaslo Jazz Fest!!!!!!! D&D. Replicant States.
This would be great. All those pork projects they get could go somwhere else, like I don't know, Houston?
$500,000 for planning, design, and equipment for the State of Vermont Forensic Laboratory $2,000,000 for Vermont covered bridges; $750,000 for the University of Vermont to continue research into advanced ground penetrating radar systems $7,090,000 for projects in the state of Senate VA/HUD Appropriations subcommittee member Patrick Leahy (D-Vt.), including: $1,000,000 for the Vermont Center on Emerging Technologies in Burlington for the development of a technology incubator; $500,000 for the Vermont Institute of Natural Sciences in Woodstock for the construction of a wildlife rehabilitation facility; $500,000 for the University of Vermont in Burlington for the Center for Advanced Computing; $150,000 for the Vermont Broadband Council to expand broadband services in rural Vermont; and $90,000 for the Southern Vermont Recreation Center Foundation in Springfield for construction of a community center.
BC has a no trade clause. We lose too much in size giving up either the Yukon or Alberta for Vermont. Those are itty bitty states you have back there. At best, you're looking at one of the Maritime Provinces. And as Grizz pointed out...they're still rather pissed about your treatment of the King. We're also a lefty bunch up here. So I don't think your current coach would like us too much. Even our wanna-be GOP party would be considered middle to left Democrat in the Excited States.
How about Nevada and Utah for BC? You get Vegas, baby! You get the Mormon Tabernacle Choir! You get a really big salt lake! You even get some mountains! Go for it!!!! D&D. Replicant Dreams.
Bust is an appropriate word when talking about BC. Wreck Beach has recently been short-listed in a CBC contest as one of the wonders of Canada, for a start. Bust is also a word that strikes fear into the hearts of many BCers for other reasons. I suspect that there are a number of people in the Kaslo area who would be less afraid of a bust if the international boarder were removed from between them and their customers. Otoh, there are also quite a few people in that area who were born Americans but who came north roughly 40 years ago to avoid being either busted or bussed to the nearest training base. I believe they’ve all been pardoned now, but many of them still have an ambivalent relationship with the US. I think in the end, though, a province half full of lefties which has cannabis as a major export industry might not fit in with conservative America. You can always come up and visit, though. Our shiny new 95 cent dollar doesn’t make it quite as attractive as it was a few years ago, but places like the Kootenay’s are still worth it, imo.
Indeed I am. I live in Calgary and am not a member of an Asian gang, so that means that I’m not in a group in Alberta not guaranteed to own guns, and in fact I’ve never owned so much as a pellet gun. I was a deadeye with an elastic band chokecherry gun when I was a kid, though.
Oh, I have visited! That's why I'm willing to deal. You are right about there being many expatriates living there from the States. My old friend, who started the Jazz Fest, is still seen as "the guy from Texas" in that little village, although he is well loved. (certainly by the ladies!) He would have made the trip for political reasons, but lucked out on the first draft lottery. The good man just loves it up there. Who can blame him? How about we toss in Idaho and Montana? No deal? i've never been to canada but think i might check it out this august. going to cape cod for a bit then thinking about heading up yonder. where should we go, it'll be the wife and i sans our little ones. give me somethin' funky.
I’ll have to defer to bnb’s no trade clause for BC, but you’re welcome to come on up and visit anytime!
Well, it’s a big country so there are a lot of options. We’ve got world famous cities like Montreal and Vancouver that are unique and incredible and well worth seeing, (and both are hot spots in the world indie music scene too, so these are cultural hot spots as well as incredibly beautiful cities), but Canada’s funky natural wonders are probably the most popular things to see. Here’s the link to the CBC competition I mentioned above. This is just a fun contest and there are a number of major omissions, like Peggy’s Cove for example, and local groups are organising to get people to vote for their own attraction so the voting is more a reflection of how well some of the communities around these sites have been able to organise themselves, but this will give you some ideas anyway. http://www.cbc.ca/sevenwonders/
thegary: If you want the urban / music / club scene...Montreal's probably your best bet with a side trip to Quebec city. If you're without kiddies...could be the way to go. If you're more into nature / quaintness quiet and close to Cape Cod, then PEI / Nova Scotia would be my choice. Western Canada's my home, but suggesting you go there since you're in Cape Cod anyway...is like suggesting you swing by Boston from Seattle.
You're not kidding. I have to fly into Spokane (no direct flights from Austin), rent a car, and then drive up to Kootenay Lake. Not like flying to Miami! D&D. Replicant Voter.
