This is just the price of a TOR arm. Every signing has risks…the fact that this is 2 years is golden. JV was the most convenient and, IMO, best option that we had given the other available arms and anticipated prices. I’m not trying to back up the Brinks truck for a long term Ray or Gaussian deal, no offense to them. JV should set the rest of our rotation beautifully. Great investment. And if he falters, that’s just the risk, but I believe he’ll be an effective pitcher even if not CYA worthy.

At the very least, it gives Urquidy, Garcia, Valdez, etc. more time to work with and learn from one of the best pitchers of all time.

Based on what posters like @Nook said, plus reading some other insiders, it seemed like things were trending this way. Thrilled to see it actually happen!!

It would have been great if Verlander could have pitched in the World Series.

This team is still the class of the AL west.

They need to monitor his innings. Need him in Sept/Oct.

The Yankees want every damn FA out there. They'll just swipe their Visa Black card to get them.

    I'd say.

When its all said/done, he very likely will have paid Verlander a 4 year 116 million dollar deal... all after age 37.

    1. No more sticky spider tack
    2. Can Justin Verlander still be efficient in the strike zone and have enough stamina
    3. What happens if Verlander gets injured again and picks up his option again next year that is wasted $75 million over a 4 year stretch

Seeing Verlander (injured), John Wall(injury prone) Deshaun Watson (Disgruntled) all getting paid and not playing.

Maybe we roll with a 6 man rotation to extend life? That would be unorthodox.

    risk/reward

If Verlander and LMJ get us back to the playoffs healthy, it’s a game changer.

Even though this may seem like a lot, keep in mind Noah got 21 and he has done less and has a way longer injury history. Verlander is older but even with a Verlander at like 75 percent of what he used to be, the Astros would have been champions last year.
