Saw a few Dallas & New York responses that I missed before. Here are their rankings (FYI). Dallas Verizon (HUGE gap -- in fact highest ranking of any service anywhere) Sprint Cingular AT&T T-Mobile New York Verizon (largets gap, but not as high of a ranking as Dallas') Nextel T-Mobile Sprint AT&T
I've never had a problem with Sprint in Dallas. I got a phone my freshman year at SMU, and it worked great all the time. I might be in the minority, but at it worked for me
depends on what you want. If you want the gadgets, go GSM. If you want to talk, go CDMA. (verizon) Why does CDMA have crappy phones??
Phone manufacturers know that eventually CDMA will be obsolete. GSM is the wave of the near, near future for ALL service. Obviously it's already here, so some of the first one's out are loaded with goodies... eventually the new GSM service will also have some slightly less gadget filled models. In about 2 years, most service besides GSM will no longer be available.
Nuggets4, One of the reasons Verizon has such good service in the Dallas area is because their headquarters are all over the freaking place here. I live right smack in the middle of it, but didn't have good reception with an old Motorola StarTac - go figure. Of course everywhere else, the reception and service was exceptional. Even AT&T's TDMA service isn't so bad, and that's what I'm on month-to-month right now. Still waiting for the Motorola V710 to come out so I can switch back to Verizon. There was a site on the Internet where you could find out where all the Sprint PCS towers were near you. Can't remember the URL at the moment. Given the choice and the coverage, I'd rather go with CDMA because of Verizon around these parts.
Bama, finally something you and I can agree on... " Sprint on the other hand, even in the ATL area, was total garbage" O yea whoever said Nextel, them service and phone sucks monkey balls... btw, there are some pretty neat CDMA phones out there, just have to look. LG, Audiovox and motorolla are rolling out with some sweet CDMA fones...
That's what I thought, but I wasn't sure. If I remember correctly (I don't have the page up right now), Verizon was #1 in every city they tried, most by at least 3 or 4 points higher than second place. I know here in Boulder, they keep winning the "Best Of Boulder". As soon as my contract is up with the devil known as AT&T, I'm switching. 3 more months.
O yea IMO get the new LG phone from Verizon if you are to switch which I say is a Damn good option(if it is an option at all)
Sprint has worked great for me for four years now in D/FW. My only problem is that they don't have any coverage between Wichita Falls and Claude, TX, so when I'm going to Amarillo, I can't really make calls during that portion of the trip (though it does roam, so if I had to make a call, I could). Of course, Verizon doesn't have service in the Panhandle at all, so that would be worse for me, personally. My girlfriend has Verizon, and it's always worked well for her, though the specific phone she has apparently has a problem of some sort where it powers itself off every once in a while and you have to take the battery off and put it back on to start it up again. They've replaced the phone a couple of times, but it keeps doing it). She swears by Verizon, though, and she talks on her cell phone a lot.
Dude you rule..... That's it! No more Sprint, now how should I get rid of my phone? A big flourish would be great!
Sprint coverage sucks here in Austin also, but they have started advertising a new retrospective plan that automatically adjusts for minutes used (that's a longtime coming to actually pay only for services rec'd!) If ATT or Verizon offer the same, we may switch. Any Austinites like their service?
