But they do! The one thing my friends like the most about the iPhone is how useful it is at web browsing. The big screen, the browser, you know all that. The Apps of course and using it as an iPod substitute on the go are other like it factors. But the BIGGEST one I hear all the time is the web browsing, there is pretty much a consensus on that.

The irony is you can get an actual laptop (netbook) that is easy to carry around for about $200, I think if you try to buy the new iPhone without a contract it will run you like 4x that amount. Yet, it is no laptop substitute, no phone will ever be that without sporting at least a 7" screen, and who wants to carry that around?

Just get a netbook, I say, and save a LOT of money.

I'm having great success with it. Sure 3G speed would be nice, but the T-Zones does the job. You already are familiar with the speed, as you are using it.

I got mine on craigslist. That's probably your best best to get one. I would recommend the 3G model and not the 2g, because Push features work better on the 3G, plus the processor speed is much better. I'm probably going to be switching to a 3G soon because I don't like how slow my apps start up at times. Plus some games like Fifa and Madden don't run as smoothly.

I don't think it's worth it to get the 3GS though. 3G should be perfectly fine.

The web browsing on the iPhone is probably the best in the business.

But my point about it not being a laptop replacement was in response to JeopardE's post about him checking email, then noticing a facebook email, then going to facebook, and then taking a picture to send an email, but he forgot about what they wanted to know so he had to go back to the other email, etc.

That's a type of user that is doing some heavy work on a mobile phone. I don't think most phone users are doing all these things on their phone nor need to do all these things. I consider myself pretty savvy with computers and technology and I might check a website out on my phone, check some sports scores with an app, check twitter, and read my mails when I have some idle time. When I need to be responding to emails and doing real work on the internet, I'm using a laptop or computer, not my phone.

The 3g and and 2g have the exact some processor and ram. The 3gs has a faster processor and more ram. The 3g has a different radio chip for the 3g, but if you have tmobile you can't use it since ATT and Tmobile use different frequencies for their 3g.

    off topic -- BUT---

I'll be upgrading my phone soon. I'm probably going with a blackberry (i know booooooo) but....how many MB, G's do you guys typically use in a month? I hardly used any previously because I found the interface so pitiful, but that's no measure of what I'd like to do.

Not looking to watch movies -- but a few clip and highlights plus a little browsing would be cool.

I like my iPhone, hate AT&T. I was thinking about selling my 3GS and downgrading to a 3G until I read someones post about how much smoother the 3GS is.

The 3G is faster than the 2G. And yes, I know you cannot get 3G speeds on the 3G iPhone with T-Mobile, but you can still use the phone.

Bitter tears? I wouldn't use an iPhone if you gave me one. I would take a Blackberry though.

The Exchange server on the iPhone - Is that something that needs to be done on the Exchange side or on the phone itself. I would like more info cause I have had folx ask about it .. but it is unsupported and best effort and i have no knowledge of it,.

the phone has exchange support. As long as you have an exchange server setup and configured you can enter your account into the phone and access it

    I don't know that I agree

Apple came in and took an established mobile industry over by storm

M$ was the establishment in theirs, and using anyone else cut you out of the vast majority of software

iPhone is killing because of user experience and the iPod branding. Blackberrys aren't the easiest thing to get the hang of if you're upgrading from a flip phone. Pre's done a good job offering (IMO) the only true rival to iPhone today. I'm probably going to bank on Droid in the next month or so, but suspect Acer Liquid will be the shiznit (battery life concerns aside).

No -- my point is not to say that the iPhone "sucks". There is a good reason why the iPhone is so successful. Part of it is Apple's brilliant marketing campaigns, but part is also the very high customer satisfaction ratings. The iPhone is very good at what it does, and only a hater would say otherwise.

My point is that the iPhone is not the end-all-be-all of phones like its fanboys make it out to be. There are features -- valuable features, like multitasking -- that are available on other phones that the iPhone doesn't have. The "iPhone rules all, nobody needs multitasking" argument is what I think is stupid. The iPhone is a great phone, no question. I too have yet to meet someone who bought an iPhone and didn't like it. But it still can't do things that I do with my Palm Pre everyday, and that's a fact, too.

And I posit that you say that because your phone isn't *capable* of offering you that much convenience. I didn't/couldn't do any of these things either until I got a Palm Pre. This is like saying that "if I ever want to watch TV, I'll wait till I get home and can sit in front of my TV, and I have Tivo -- why would anybody ever need a site like Hulu.com?"

Again ... I don't intend to knock the iPhone. It truly is a great phone and I know you love yours, but you have to admit that there are things that it can't do, and other phones can. That is all.

with all arguments aside, its been officially announced today, releasing 11/6 at $199 after rebate, probably the only surprise of the day, it will be the first to have a beta version of Google Maps Navigation, pretty flipping sweet

of course I knew all of these a week ago, but now allowed to say it.... :)

I finally convinced myself to leave Verizon (my major hangup) by the end of the year and go for an iPhone which I've been lusting over.

But I'm thrilled Droid is coming out and now there's another choice. Decisions, decisions...

I'm all over the Droid - been holding out for over a year to upgrade my phone and am ecstatic that they finally have one jumping on.

Great camera for a cell (5 MP with worthwhile flash)
    Plenty of storage
    Good processor
    Capacitive, big screen
    Not WinMo
Not chained to the near-criminal Verizon Apps
Built in Free Car Navigation with Traffic updating and Google Search!
    Qwerty keyboard

Have yet to see anything but an absolutely glowing review, including Boy Genius

    Done, done, done, and done.
