Sir, I don't know who you are except through conversing over the internet.

But if you do not admit your phone is inferior to mine, I WILL GO APES*** ALL OVER YOUR ASS.

Again, I'm curious as to how many of the people that hate the iPhone actually have USED or OWNED one in the past for more than, say, a month. I'm real curious. Anyone want to answer my question?

Yes. I just switched from Sprint over to AT&T and got the 3Gs about 3-4 mos ago. I got my wife the 3G.
I really like the phone. There are plenty of cool free apps I can download from the store.
That said, I am not a fan boy. All of the complaints are legitimate in my book. On my old Windows Mobile phone I had extra batteries. When one ran out I swapped and was up and running while the other charged. I could use it for the entire day and not worry about having to put it on some cradle to charge.
The virtual keyboard is not bad. Maybe I'm bad but I still hit the wrong keys on a regular enough basis. It does get annoying. And there is definitely no way I can touch key type like I could with a real keyboard. Not that I'm messaging all that often. But they're trying to market the iPhone as a business phone and I have to say it can't be without a real keyboard.

Thanks, Yonkers. Now I'm waiting for iPhone owners/former owners to chime in. I'm not an Apple diehard nor a fanboy since I was waiting and waiting for TMobile to carry the HTC HD2 that I just gave up waiting (it's coming out Q1 2010 from what I've read) and I was disappointed by the myTouch (should have brought over the HTC Hero instead). I just find it funny that people say the iPhone's overrated or overhyped when it's the other companies that go out of their way to say that they have an "iPhone killer" or "a strong competitor/alternative to the iPhone". It's the competitor's that try to match up to the iPhone and not the other way around.

And yes, AT&T service is the Achilles' Heel to the iPhone.

That took me a while to get used to as well. One thing I found that helped was that the keyboard shows you what letter you are about to input as long as you are still touching the screen. So you can slide your finger around if you need without putting in the incorrect letter.

So you can jailbreak an iPhone, pay the $6 at T-Mobile for their T-Zone service and be able to get all your e-mails in one inboxband use google maps and other data based services like apps without a problem?

Blackberry works for me best, but this kind of info might be helpful for my brother who likes T-Mobile and loathes the idea of switching to ATT just for the iPhone.

Yea, I did it for a year and a half with the 2G iphone. Once you unlock the phone and jailbreak it, you can use the 5.99 tzones just fine. You can even use the blackberry data plan through TMobile if you already have a BB. The only limitation, of course, is that you can't use TMobile's 3G network with any of the iPhones.

Did not know that either, but yet another reason as to why the Blackberry simple cannot be beat.

It seems like Apple is intentionally limiting the iPhone to force people into certain behavior as opposed to any real shortcoming of the software/hardware. It sounds too much like they are policing their customers, no different than Comcast limiting bandwidth to force certain behavior. I know a lot of people that get pissed off when companies do that.

I own a iPhone 3G for over a year now and bought it without a contract. I wouldn't say I hate the iPhone that much but what I hate are the way that fanboys who defend it even when there are so many flaws. It's a good game and music media gadget but it ends there. The reason I haven't switch yet because I'm being very cautious with my budget now and since there are so many good phone that are coming out I'm not that crazy to jump on the bandwagon like I did with the iPhone until I know more about it.

the iphone will eventually be on other carriers besides AT&T. not anytime soon but it will in the "near future". i assume this is will happen in 2011 when AT&T's exclusivity contract expires. i heard this off the record from an insider who works on the iphone.

Yes sir. You don't have to jailbreak to use it with T-Mobile and their data plan. It only has to be unlocked for that. Jailbreaking is different from unlocking and it allows you to run unsigned apps and themes etc to customize your phone.

He might have a bit of trouble getting T-Zones for $6 though. They discontinued it a while ago so he will have to call customer service probably several times and try to get it from them by suggesting a friend recently got it. They know people are using it for iPhones. If he can't get it for $6, I believe they have it for $10.
