Jason Hirsh & Taylor Buchholz were both at one time, Top-50 prospects. Ezequiel Astacio was a top 100 prospect. Lyles, Peacock, & Cosart have all been top 100 guys.
This idea that more experienced players being promoted should light a fire under Appel is absolutely treating their development as 1:1 - an idea you're promoting, BTW. It dismisses a significant chunk of the narrative. Think about this in NFL terms; are we really holding Jadeveon Clowney to the same result-standard as JJ Watt? At some point, sure - once JC has the experience (not to mention health). But anyone expecting him to play at that level in year 1 is foolish. I noted concern for Appel's progression is justified. But VV and/or LMJ's acension has almost no relevance, and is in no way reflective of anything Appel is or isn't doing. It's just lazy fan-pointing. VV totaled 289 ML IsP; LMJ 256. Apple has 166.

He should be able to fetch something okay in return. Only 25 years old and having an okay AAA year. His inability to walk will always look terrible, though.
Guys, many scouts said VV was better than McCullers and Appel when they pitched in same rotation a year ago. We are getting a very good pitcher in our rotation.
Well, yeah.. VV and LMJ came into the system as 18 year olds... Appel came in at 21 after 4 years of pitching at a major college program, and not to mention was given the sizable bonus to not only justify his performance, but to escalate future expectations. Its not out of the realm to "expect" Appel to have been more "ready" to pitch at this point than the other two guys... hell, he still may end up being the one who comes up and sticks for good (whenever that may be)... but simply looking at their minor league service time by itself is just as short-sighted as the people seeing them all as equals. The NFL comparison would not be comparing Clowney to Watt... not even sure you can make a comparable analogy in the NFL due to the lack of a minor league system and minimal college requirements before somebody can get drafted.
Bucahnnon already did to make room for Correa on the 25 now... they will have to make another move on Wednesday for VV.
Right they had to make a move for him to get on the 25 and a move for him to get on the 40. We're on the same page.
cdain, i thought you photoshopped a screen of jeff luhnow's twitter. went to his account, needless to say, he has surpassed daryl morley as the coolest gm with a twitter handle.
What I like is that apparently, we are going to give our in-house talent a shot before we go spending on already established vets. Makes sense since we would have to part with some talent as well. Love it
