I think it depends. Veganism is about not exploiting animals but as a human you have a voluntary choice. This would be akin to wondering if Vegan girls swallow since that would be an animal product but one the guy is probably happy to part with. The bigger problem I would see is if as a vegan you are getting enough protein and fats in your diet to actually lactate. On a related issue I would be curious about what the birth weight of the baby was. I have a hard time believing that a strictly vegan diet would provide enough resources to produce a healthy baby.
Exactly. It's quite probable that they could feed the kid soy milk on a regular feeding schedule & the baby would still be malnourished. Not nearly enough fat. And apple juice? Basically nutritionally empty, like feeding him sugar water. Wouldn't surprise me either if the baby was *born* a bit malnourished from the mother's diet, we have no way of knowing since it was born at home. These two are obviously idiots, how much their idiocy influenced their dietary choices for their baby, or their personal dietary choices brought about their idiocy wrt raising a healthy baby, I dunno.
What I described is the vegan culture. Are you confused vegan with the three vegetarian cultures? 1) Ovo vegetarians - vegetarians who can eat eggs 2) Lacto vegetarians - vegetarians who can drink milk 3) Lacto-ovo vegetarians - vegetarians who can eat eggs and drink milk There is an even crazier culture called Fruitarian who can eat fruits only.
As long as they eat Vitamin B12 pills and eat enough variety of veggie, they should have no problem procreating healthy babies.
But they watched their child starve to death -- that does not happen overnight. When you watch your child get weaker and weaker you take it to a doctor.
a billion Indians and still you have a hard time believing? yeah, yeah i know they're not all vegans ...
It says the baby's diet was based largely on Soy Milk and Apple juice. The seems to indicate little, if any, food and a mostly liquid diet. Is Gerber's, mushed fruits and vegetables, non-Vegan? Why couldn't the baby have a seemingly normal diet for a 6-week old? It's not like infants dig into steaks and pork chops. They eat mushed/liquified stuff that doesn't have to have meat products in it.
For the first 6 weeks of life a human baby should consume nothing but breast milk or formula. It's pretty simple.
side note, i had an indian buddy that didnt eat meat but did eat eggs. i feel sorry for all the plants they torture
Right. 6 week infants should only be drinking formula or breast milk. The thing I don't understand is that you can buy soy based formula at the store. Why wouldn't they do this???
This does not have anything to do with being a vegan. My kids have never had meat in their lives. They are rarely ever sick, maybe a cold or a stomach aches once every third year. They are also more athletic than other kids their age. This has to do with the parents being idiots more than anything else.
This was the first thing I thought of when I pictured some of the hard core vegans i've crossed paths with over the years. My mental picture of this couple is of two gaunt sickly looking individuals. I do know healthly vegans, but some are so out in left field with the entire lifestyle that they are not in good shape physically at all.
