If Vecsey says it and Bob Allen follows it up, you can bank on it...

    Bank on it not happening.

I do hope the Houston Barnicle will do a story on it. That may force Les to make a more definititive statement or action sooner (one way or another) and then we can all stop speculating.

Van Gundy is not interested in living in the South. He seems to look down on Houston. He will not come here...

You were "in aww" as in "awww, crap..."?

Oh, wait, you meant you were in awe. Never mind... ;)

I'm glad this rumor is starting to get out into the open. Like ima_drummer2k said this will force Les to make a statement regarding Rudy and will end the speculation.

I hope Les makes a headcoaching change contrary to Doc Rocket's definative statements saying he won't. Van Gundy would be the ideal coach for the Rockets.

Spiral:- you hit the nail on the head! Do you think that he could work with Rudy T as our Defensive Coach?

I like Van Gundy. But I didn't understand the logic of why we need a defensive coach. Our offense is the real problem. Dig some offensive assistant coaches from Kings/Mavericks please!

I agree with your comments about our defense.

We were #8 in the league in points allowed and #5 in opponents FG% (#13 in 3pt%). Why the desire for a special "defense only" assistant coach?

i did read somewhere jeff van gundy said he'd be open to assistant coaching. as for why we need a good defensive coach, have you ever noticed that when the rockets play bad defense, their offense disappears???

Because we all know the reason those teams score a lot of points is their assistant coaches...

well just think when rudys off doing something else or coaching other players, we got larry smith to coach the other guys. and we all know assistant coaches (or at least ours) are really effective...

head coaches are HEAD coaches for a reason.

Van Gundy would be a definite upgrade over Rudy, but I also think that a young coach would be best for our team. A young coach would do a better job identifying with our young team. Someone like Maurice Cheeks would fit in well.

If I'm not mistaken, Van Gundy is only 40 yrs. old.

Why were we a good defensive team?

Because of our defensive hustle?, or was our game play so boring, that it brought the opposing teams down to our level?

I am quite sure it was because our game play was boring. I mean, cause that is how you build a top 8 defensive team; by boring your oppontents into mediocrity.
