Hi all, First post here, long time lurker... I live in Denver, so I've been watching Nene's progress for three years. IMO, he is exactly what the Rockets need, if not for salvaging this season, then to continue to build around Yao and Tmac. One of his main weaknesses last year (before Kmart, when he was getting more minutes), was his lack of rebounding aptitude. He has all the tools to be a good rebounder; size, speed, GREAT hands and a lot of strength. His problem is with positioning and properly boxing out, which are skills that he has definitely improved this season. Its just he has been hurt and his minutes are down, so obviously his numbers look worse than last year when he was a starter. From what I've been reading on the papers, he is certainly on the doghouse, mainly because it appears he is a very proud, emotional and ambitious individual. He did not seem to like moving to the bench after the Martin acquisition and has been very vocal about it. Also, and this is just personal opinion based on my observations, he does not seem to have the best relationship with Melo. That would certainly put you in Kiki's doghouse... Having said that and going back to what I've said before, I would take him in a heartbeat. His post game is looking better every season, as he is extremely quick for his size. He still looks a bit lost out there from time to time, but when he brings his A game and is healthy, he can be dominating. As for Rodney White, he is Melo's best buddy on the team and his game is extremely one dimensional. However, he could fit in nicely on the Rockets because he can flat out shoot. More importantly, he is a stand-still shooter, so he could punish opponents who double Yao-Tmac. If the Rockets really have a chance to make this deal, then they'd be fools not to.
Thanks for stopping by, noppeper. Unfortunately, we have very little to give up in order to get Nene; yes, he'd be great to have here, but outside of Yao and T-Mac, the Rockets have.....little to offer. If I were a division rival, I'd want more from the Rockets than the team can actually give. Almost any team could better our offer, IF there is any offer at all. *sigh* Ah, to have a real power forward on this team.
noppeper, thanks for the analysis! I think the only way the Rockets can get a chance at Nene is for the fact he IS in the Nuggets doghouse and thus might be had cheaper than if not. noppeper, do you see a good fit for Jim Jackson and Nachbar there in Denver?
The question wasn't directed at me, but I know that Denver is as desparate for a SG as we are for a PF
I would do that Nene deal, though it will be very tough to part with Boki. Losing JJ may seem horrible to some people but at this point he is our more tradeable asset on the team and at his age he isnt a long term solution for the team. Getting a young player that will help the team for years to come at a weakness is a great move for the team even if it doesnt pay dividends right away. I rather not move Deke to toronto either, it doesnt really make sense for them to take Deke with Marshall,Bosh,Woods,Araujo in the front court. I am not a big fan of rose either, but if it means we can move either MoT or Howard thats fine, but I'd want woods in return if Deke is included. Sura/Rose/Mac/Nene/Yao Barrett/White/Woods/Howard/Padgett/Gaines is a workable bench but it leaves extremely thin at the 2/3 spots White is another intriguing prospect he was highly regarded when detroit selected him a few years ago, never got a chance in det ran into some trouble off-court but he can hopefully be a solid bench contributer if, i find it a big if at that, both of these rumored deals go through
Thanks for the insight. Where do you live in Denver and how do you like it? Just curious...I always wanted to live in Colorado for a while.
from NBADRAFT.NET... NBA Comparison: Glenn Robinson Strengths: Versatile forward with both a post and perimeter game..... Has very good potential...... A 6-10 player with the ability to put the ball on the floor, create off the dribble, and knock down jumpshots with range. Weaknesses: The unknown. Showed flashes of brilliance, but only over a short period of time.... Probably a future PF and with continued progress could become a very good one.
When the trading deadline gets closer, I would like to see if the Rockets can deal Dikembe for Vladimir Radmanovic. The Sonics don't really have a low post defensive presence even though Fortson can rebound. Vlad is a free agent after this season, and he wants starter money. Considering Rashard Lewis is already a star for the Sonics, Vlad may not be resigned. I'm thinking Vlad will ask for $10 million per season. That's a lot, but this guy is developing into a killer perimeter player who could really be very good player in the half-court offense.
I'm so tired of people calling all these players 6' 10". I've heard Turkoglu, Peja, Rodney White, and even Lebron all described as 6' 10". Tim Duncan and Chris Webber are closer to that height, not all these small forwards. Bah.
remember to subtract 2 inches for their shoes. I've read NBA player's heights are measured with their shoes on for more effect. More interesting to read Tim Duncan 7 footer than Tim Duncan 6 foot 10. Makes our PF's look smaller too.. If they are reported at 6 foot 9 than they are more likely 6 foot 7? doesnt have the same effect does it? one NBA player mentioned t
Except if they do it to every player in the league, what does it matter? Willis25- And why would you quote nbadraft.net? Their scouting reports are historically awful. Go take a look at their previous comments if you want a laugh. I don't understand why people point to a player's pre-draft scouting report when the player has been in the league 3+ years...
if nene turns into a soft-cant-score-crap pf here in houston, thatll suck if rose starts missing all his 3 pointers, all field goals like jj, thatll suck i really hope they dont suck
because he hasn't played enough to have anything else available about his skills, etc. All that is out there is his recent misd. conviction and subsequent suspension.
I like using the profiles from Hoopshype. The do tend to be generic one-liners, but they are updated every year (if they have something worth updating). Here's what they said about White: Not very specific, but it seems to be worth reading if you really don't know anything about a player.
Denver is indeed pretty desperate to trade for a SG and maybe Kiki is thinking that Nene's stock might go down due to their overstock of PFs (so his numbers will be down due to less playing time). Jim Jackson's contract is also reasonable and would probably be a better defender/shooter combo than anything they could try to get THIS season. But honestly, are they thinking they can win it all this season? Will he be the piece that makes them elite? I honestly don't think Denver is looking for a championship just yet and Kiki is just biding his time this year, so that he can give Bzdelik the boot and bring in a seasoned coach. Basically I believe he will definitely be shopping Nene in the near future, but he also knows he can get much more in return if he's patient. I also read from another poster about trading for Skita...please don't. That guy is NOT an NBA player. I have seen absolutely no improvement from him in the three years he's been here. He can't shoot, can't rebound, can't defend, heck he can't even dunk the ball. Boki is 100x better than him...
