It's got to be Larry Brown or Eddie Jordan.

Especially if Jordan can bring JKidd with him.

Cav's are not talented even with Lebron. However, IF CAV's spend the money to attract free agents they could get into the playoffs this coming season. Also, resigning their center is a must.

Gundy made the safe choice. My assessment is that Gundy is more comfortable coaching against Eastern Teams rather then try to take a loaded team such as Rockets and have the pressure of not only making the playoffs but contending against the likes of Lakers/Kings/Spurs/Dallas for a championship.

In the East, just add another quality player and your team gets better. In the West it's a prerequisite to have a loaded team, then it's up to the coach to make the talent mesh and work together. Perhaps, Gundy was worried that he might actually have to coach.

I can't see Sterling paying Brown $8M. I don't see us paying him or anyone that much for taking the Rox's hot job. Bring on Mike D for a reasonable cost, if Larry is gonna let ego $$ drive his decision.

I've come to the conclusion that Larry Brown will never win an NBA championship. He just seems to me like someone who is cares more about teaching and building a team then coaching one to a championship. He left Indiana right before they became a serious contender, and he left Philadelphia while they were a threat in the East. Now he's showing serious interest in Washington, Cleveland and the LA Clippers? This guy is a a team builder, I don't know if he's a guy that has the dedication to coach a team over the hump and win a championship. I think he has the coaching ability to do it, but not the dedication or patience.

Agreed, to me, Brown is a great team builder, first choice for cleaning mess and fix the crap team like LAC, but not a guy can win a championship for you. At least we don't suck that much.

And 8M a year, the highest coach salary in NBA for a 63 yrs old guy who will retire in 2 and 3 years? Get a clue, people.

Too bad, JVG seems going to Cavs soon. Right now Mike Dunleavy seems have a better shot. I can live with that.

No more Silas please. It is funny that somebody here said Silas is a tough guy. I can find tons of reports saying the opposite. He is a solid coach, but not fits the Rox.

Just read an article from an Knicks fan in ESPN bbs, said it all for me, seem like all fans from New York have the same feeling about JVG

If true, this article indicates that Van Gundy understands that he's not getting hired by the Rockets. He knows that Larry Brown is the organization's first choice and he's probably heard about Mike Dunleavy's "home run."
It's better to take LeBron James and the Cavaliers now than to be left with a choice between a bad coaching job and another year as a broadcaster.

I've seen enough of Van Gundy when I lived in NY.

No doubt he is a taskmaster who spends many late nights viewing film but IMO he can't think on his feet and that is why he makes few adjustments during games. Was it just me or did he add very little insight to the games on TNT? I personally think VG should stay in the EC if/when he does return to coaching.

I'm not sure a SF/Van Gundy match is a good thing. Van Gundy has also stated that he wants some control with personnel decisions. Does anyone seriously thing CD will give up any of his control? If so, Larry Brown would be a better choice than VG.

If the Rox are looking for a solid coach than Silas or even Dunleavy would be better choices than VG. BTW, Silas is a strong coach despite the laid back exterior...he is not another Lenny Wilkens.

Why is it that everyone says Gundy QUIT on his team?

The guy was there from 1993. He "quit" because the team was going no where and he and the GM are TOTALLY on opposite sides when it comes to getting players. The GM is looking to fill MSG. Gundy wanted to get some youthful, athletic players and rebuild. The GM wanted to get McDyess. Gundy didn't.

Who do you think was right?

And RILEY quit on the Knicks. He is absolutely hated here. Gundy "quit" on the Knicks and the fans adore him.

Yea, he quit on his team. Try and get the facts straight before trying to make the guy out something that he isn't. How about getting some NYC news? The thought that Silas and Dunleavy are better over Gundy when its a CONSENSUS that Gundy is a better coach thatn just about 95 percent of the coaches out there is one of the great mysteries of life.

Oh, and you want Larry Brown? The ultimate QUITTER?!? The man has threatened to retire for the last 3 years!! During the 2001 Finals, he said he is "losing his energy for coaching" on national TV!!!!! That "he has to take a look at the end of the year because he has a young child"!! What happened to the kid? A leap year effect took place during the past 3 years and he is now 25 years old? Now he is ready to coach?

You guys are hot stuff.
