This is still just a rumor, and consider the source. Having said that, I sure wish we'd had Mario chewing the hell out of our bench during this series, and benching Rafer when he did something bone-headed. (oh, wait... we didn't have another point. my bad)
CD got him Synder & V-Span, two athletic perimeter players, but JVG didn't trust them and buried them on the bench. I do think he did his best, but it is just not good enough - GOOD RIDDANCE ! Could not disagree more - I blame the atmosphere created by a controlling coach, having another coach who gives a little more offensive freedom and protects his slower guys like Yao by running some zone will help immensly. It is if you failed to develop players that could add to those stars when team's take away plan A, and you don't have plan B. Signed....Tony Parker, Yao Ming, Manu Ginobli, Dirk Nowitski...etc..etc..etc... Players develop by playing.......by PLAYING...not by sitting. DD
JVG was a solid coach. He did a great job. But we have hit the ceiling of what this team can accomplish with him and his system. So we are at a crossroads. We need a paradigm shift either way. Either we get the players to fit the system or get a system to fit the players. I think that the most critical piece of all this is Yao Ming. Can he get back to pre-injury dominance in and out of the paint or did the broken leg relegate him to fade-away jump shooter? If he can be that same dominant player, maybe we don't want Adelman or someone who will move him to the high post and not exploit the mismatch on the low pivot. If he can't be that same dominant player, we need someone who will exploit his shooting touch better and open up the lane for TMac and others to drive more. By the way, the one thing that killed me to watch more than anything else this entire series was TMac driving into the lane only to stop because Yao and 2 or 3 defenders were clogging up the paint. So blame TMac for not driving, but we need to give him space to penetrate.
Glad you said it for me. Even the ones that come in and domintate, do that becuase they PLAY. not because they sit on the bench and when needed come in and dominate. They are allowed to grow, make mistakes and learn what it takes to play in the league. not loose all confidence and not think they can play. Hell Boki would have been nice to have in this series with the confindence he has in NJ right now. But we let him rot on the bench becasue we couldn't afford him to make mistakes and play a little bit to learn. Im not saying he's our saviour but damn any player has to have a chance to bloom. Hell at the end of the game i would have loved Spanoulis to come in and just drive and draw fouls when we were in the penalty. While everyone else was shooting jumpers...but that's just me.
for what its worth, they just mentioned it on NBA Fastbreak before the Cavs/Nets game. Jon Barry said he saw it coming after speaking to him last summer, Wilbourne was like "do I hear Larry Brown flying down to Houston". Again, he said it jokingly, don't want to start rumors.
I don't like Aldelman cause he couldn't win when he had that team with all the talent a few years ago. Sacremento was loaded and he still couldn't get them to perform. I am voting for Del Harris and you know why? You get Harris and Avery Johnson won't know what to do. Harris is the brains behind the Dallas Mavericks and is almost identical to Don Nelson in coaching philosophy. The Mavs will collapse without Del Harris there and Avery will be just be running around yelling at players. Avery Johnson was flat outcoached against Don Nelson. Del Harris on the other hand, he knows how to run a fluid offense and he would utilize players for their talents. Mario Elie...no experience. Fratello - Are you kidding me? Carlisle - Jeff Van Gundy 2
spanoullis and novak are garbage. its pathetic to watch how bad spounallis is when he tries to make things happen. and novak aint got the nuts to play at this level. see, all these guys are talented, far more talented than you or i, but what makes a really good player is the ability to suppress the nerves, and fear, and just do what they do. thats something that is just part of their personality. and dd, as far as parker and ginobli and everyone else you mentioned, they were really good, and developed to superstars. thats a totally different deal. v-span and novak are just straight up garbage, and maaay develope to be scrubs. for YEARS i been reading posts from duhduhdua-kota, and its always the same sad story, its all the coaches fault. its soooooo old. after all this time, through a coach change, its been a similar philosophy team, pound the ball in, and pass out to perimeter shooters... the real blame needs to be dumped in dawsons lap. i think its pretty clear that he has persued personelle to try to capture the only winning formula he has ever know. the hakeem formula. but its a different nba with different rules, and that just aint gonna work anymore.
For a guy that knows so much about Adelman you would think you could say/spell his name right. Slim chance that Bonzi will be back, someone is bound to offer him more money than we're paying him and I'm not sure you want to keep a guy that just walks out on the team like he did.
Are you just dumb or are you stupid? Parker was not the player he is now when he came in the league, he had to play to develop, same with Manu, same with Dirk, same with ANY FRIGGEN player. JVG stubbornly refuses to develop players, and it hurts the Rockets in the long run. The point is that we really don't know what V-Span or Novak, or Snyder can do, because JVG wouldn't play them. Feel free to disagree with me all you want, but on the JVG issue, I jave been right all along !!!! How does Boki look now in the 2nd round? Funny how he is contributing and his confidence is sky high when he is given some freedom to play...isn't it. JVG SUCKS !!!! DD
damnit. ive supported JVG wholeheartedly this whole season. ive backed him up in almost any argument on improvements for the rockets and then game 7 happens. i havent really read the whole board but i will tell you this. jvg needs to retire. he's emotionally, physically, and mentally SPENT. he's done and i really wish him well. i do feel that larry brown will be a good fit for us. i think the criticism from houston compared to nyc is a walk in the park for him, and he can handle it quite well. he's old but he's disciplined and i think the defensive foundation jeff laid out for us, LB will build on it. not to mention he'll be running more plays for rafer, juhow, head and snyder. i also see mutombo signing for another year if LB comes because mutombo knows LB will use him in his defensive schemes. really truly wish you the best jeff, but bring on a new coach. and no to rudy T, mario, flip and fratello. just bring LB or phil jackson (haha a guy can dream right?)
blah blah blah, players get better by playing. they do play in practice all the time. what the hell, so i guess these poor delicate flowers just get all wilted and lose their confidence when they are made to prove themselves? you talk about these guys like theyre pu#*ys who have to be stroked and coddled and told that they will ruin if they have to sit. if they need all that, they have a place for that... THE NBDL if they aint got the confidence to play in this league and know in their hearts that they will destroy all that get in their way, then they need to get into another line of work. the nba is for sharks, not guppies.
