well put. Im curious with the 'out of position' argument. For billy to really be a productive player night in and night out, he will have to be able to perform the duties of both pg and sg but, imo, if he is really to excel in the nba his position will need to be pg. also, despite jvg's comments about vspan on the bench he has repeatedly say that he does like billy. i think keyboard jockeys made a much bigger deal of it than what really was
I don't know what's funnier... yet another thread hijacked to be mainly about V-Span, or the belief that JVG is losing his job over refusing to play V-span. There's also the little tidbit that these arguments are being made without considering the next coach that Les may want... hell, what if he gets PJ Carlisemo... a VIABLE candidate in today's market.
I didn't read your post with any slant, just as information, and incomplete at that, which you stated. Roughly 30% data is just not enough to go on, especially given that WHOM they play makes a difference too, and the biggest point is that it will take time for him to get comfortable....a few minutes is not enough time, rendering the data somewhat moot, IMO. And something I do not condone, I just think he should have been part of the PG picture, because everyone knew that Rafer was NEVER the answer, from day 1. We don't know if he is the panacea or not, that is the point.....and JVG went to the press before the season and said everyone needs to temper their expectations, but I agree....V-Span should not have whined to the press. DD
If Morey/CD/Lindsey all wanted JVG to play him and he refused, then I could see that happening. I like PJ as a candidate. DD
That would indicate that the leaders of this team... the ones that shape whether or not we'll be a contender in the future... are placing huge amounts of faith in essentially an unproven commodity/2nd round draft pick, and are willing to fire an NBA head coach over it. Pretty irresponsible. Of course you do... for now... because its a change. I'd put the over/under on you complaining about the new coach at less than 2 months (or whenever you realize that he's not going to play Spanoulis either). Frankly, your attachment of this franchises' future success to whehter or not Spanoulis plays in the most short-sighted, myopic, frustratingly stubborn view I've ever seen. Hell, I can't fathom why you DON'T like JVG... you guys are both about as one-tracked as can get.
JVG is being fired because he has failed in the past few years to build a team that can either win now, or can win in the future. On top of that, he has almost zero ability in terms of developing offensive schemes, is incapable of making in game adjustments, and lastly, has no idea how to develop young talent. The last point is the most imperative one, because with two superstars that eat up our cap space, the only guys that will come cheap and can actually keep up in terms of legs, are young unproven guys.
Then its all on the team to acquire young guys with talent. Start naming those guys that they've failed to develop. Name them all... and don't forget to leave out V-Span... its become a bbs rule to make him the center of every thread. The only guy I see who could have possibly contributed more on this team last year was Snyder. As for the last 4 years, I'm sick of seeing the gimps (Sura, Ward), the too small (Wesley, Head), the underskilled (Hayes, Padgett, Bowen), the fat (Bonzi, Spoon), and the ugly (V-span). If its JVG's fault that they were the best we could get, he should go. But then, I read things that say he wasn't responsibe for them... so what is the real answer?
uhh, im glad JVG ignored it. His job is to worry about basketball, I could care less if he is not media friendly. The boss is emphsazing the wrong criteria
In addition to the fact that JVG is probably more media friendly than Adelman and Carlisemo combined... hell, the media will probably miss JVG more than any other entity. Also, the Les telling JVG to be nice story was completely overblown and not as big of a deal as Justice made it out to be. Whoever is actually using this to support their argument that JVG should be fired is either completely biased, or not all that smart. Whether or not JVG is here... the team needs more talent. I'd focus on that, rather than dissecting "how nice" the next coach will have to be.
The playoff results say it all. With 2 superstars, get 2 1st round playoff exits. I think Phil Jackson wins championships with 2 superstars. Any argument is redundant.
Except for the one that indicates that Yao and T-mac aren't neccesarily "superstars", and even if they both are, the supporting cast is too damn laughable.
