John Lucas Sr is one of the most well respected individuals in the NBA circles. he's work with troubled players into rehabing them into better people is well renouned. however as a coach, i'm not so sure...

there was a short interview, I think hilltopper posted it few days ago, and what I heard sounded promising...it wasn't a lot, but he said some interesting things about our team

Why is it so difficult to understand that just because someone has knowledge doesn't make them a good coach. A player has to buy into his system and as Bullard said Van Gundy was miserable to be around. What player wants to buy into misery.

Van Gundy may have been a smart x's and O's man but he was a lousy communicator and motivator. And that plus his stubborness are more than anything why the Rockets never made it at of the first round in 4 years. He was paid to get results and he didn't. He is not coaches material but would probably to very good a t writing a book or working for TNT.

But enough of this debating Van Gundy's abilities,... the results speak for themselves. FIrst round exits and a lottery with Yao and Tmac on the team. I wish your man all the best in his future life. But he is history and the day they announce his retirement will be a great day for the Rockets future. It's time to move on no need to bash your man anymore

Cleveland and Philadelphia-both very weak franchises at the time. Lucas Knows the game- I do know he has never coached a team like this one with so much talent....gifted at dealing with troubled individuals

I haven't posted much in this thread, and everyone knows that I like Van Gundy. But I would love for John Lucas to be the coach. He runs the definitive guard camp and is a great teacher for guards. I think we will be shocked at what he can get out of Head and Snyder and maybe even Spanoulis if he comes. I would just hope that he can properly utilize the talent in the front line.

Apparently John Lopez says today is the day that JVG is going to step down.

Hold no resentment over how the Rocket's basically wasted a top pick because he wouldn't stop doing coke?

Man, Lew Lloyd, Mitch Wiggins and JL Sr.'s problems all probably cost the Rockets a championship.

But, that being said, he has cleaned up his life, and I am more than willing to give him a look.

He would not be my first choice...that would by Rudy, then Adleman....but he would be above JVG....

    FAR ABOVE !!

I think JVG is definately leaving Rocket. Someone has to take the responsibility for being kicked out by Jzaa, and indeed, JVG have to take partial blame. ROX is not going to turn the whole team over, so fire coach is a win-win solution for team and fans. But I wonder who will be the coach for ROX next.

Gundy is going on a personal trip for the weekend so today could be the last time he is in town until early next week. David Dalodi(Sp?) from 790 said he thought that early next week may be the soonest.

I would think the Rockets brass would want to move quickly on this, but you never know, they may be trying to get some distance between the Vescey article etc.

yeah, actually knowing the exact definition of what you are discussing does help.

is a superstar is bird, MJ, magic, dream...then yao and tmac are not superstars.

if superstars are ewing, allen, dirk...then they are superstars.

well you could argue he is coaching a bunch of scurbs outside of 3 players. take yao and tmac off the team and this team is the worst in the league.

can you say the same about suns? utah? spurs? GS? detroit? bulls? the answer is no.

I agree with you that most of the team is not good enough, which is why I have been saying all along to DEVELOP some of the younger guys to find out if they are going to be part of the future, or permanent scrubs.

Right now, Morey goes into the offseason with a laundry list of needs, but not knowing whether or not anyone on his bench could actually fill those needs because JVG failed to find out.

the needs are a PF and another guard who can handle pg and sg duties.

none fill the need at PF, and relying on billy to be that combo guy doesnt really fit. He could manage pg duties, but ideally you'd like to have a guy who can swith over to SG and not be outmatched. But again, you are assuming b/c billy didnt play a great deal of minutes that he wasnt developed. i dont think thats necessarily true. regardless, even if he did play 15 minutes a game the rockets still need more.

The only guy who still has a ? is V-span. And we did know enough that he had some improving to do in terms of hitting open shots and cutting down turnovers.

Other than him, who else is on the bench that you honestly think can be a viable rotation player for a championship contending team? I guess Snyder could be somebody's 8th man. But Novak? Lucas? Big Jake?

There's really not much there... beside your boy... who still needs improving.
