No one is saying he isn't. However, his personnel decisions were terrible; he is too stubborn to adjust to the current style of play; and his absolute negativity belongs in New York.
someone with some common sense. people keep saying that the offense is 'predictable' or 'boring' (which btw, have NOTHING to do with winning basketball), or whatever but how fcomplex are you going to get with only 2 guys that can actually make a defense pay? 1 of those guys is also dependant on the other b/c he has to get fed the ball for him to be effective (yao of course).
T-Mac I know you love the guy but he has to go. He is not willing to develop young talents and he not ready for the post season. It is not all his fault but it will start with him.
perfectly said....no other coach would have gotten this team 52 wins....we were beat by a better team in Utah...our players didn't make plays...it wasn't JVG's fault...I think its moremnagament fault because they diddn' bring in players...any of you that think Vspan or snyder would have saved our series are sadly mistaken....Dawson brought in those players....there is nobodoy out there better avaialbe than JVG...I say give him some more help and one more year..... We need a legit 4 and another point guard who can dribble/penetrate....
Does anybody know what time the press conference is at? Also, what is Rudy up to these days? If we were able to lure him back I think we could get SF3 back as well. That would be my dream scenario right there.
Where did you guys get the idea there was a press conference announcing his retirement today. JVG should meet with the media today to talk about the end of the year, etc., but NO press conference has been announced unless you guys know something I don't. Rudy is still under contract with the Lakers as a scout. I have heard that he has ZERO interest in returning to coaching.
HE"S BAAAAAAACKKKKKKKKKKK!!! Rockets 'Strongly Deny' Van Gundy's Rumored Retirement Posted May 6th 2007 7:30PM by Matt Watson Filed under: Rockets, Western, NBA Rumors, Houston In today's New York Post, Peter Vecsey cites an "impeccable source" who claimed that Jeff Van Gundy had decided months ago that this NBA season would be his last for a long time. Even though Van Gundy's post-game quotes last night hardly contradicted that notion, the Rockets dispute its veracity. From the AP: The 45-year-old coach has turned down at least two offers by the Rockets to extend his contract beyond this season, but he denied a report in Sunday's New York Post that he was going to step down. "All that stuff next year is for another time,'' he said after Game 7. "Tonight is about obviously a hugely disappointing result.'' A Rockets spokesman said Sunday that Van Gundy "strongly denies'' the report and wasn't aware where it came from. Are the Rockets telling the truth? Is Van Gundy giving us the ol' Nick Saban treatment while he assesses his options? One thing is for sure, and that's if Van Gundy wants a job this year he'll have no trouble finding one. In addition to his current gig, there will be several other positions open around the league, and Van Gundy has to be considered one of the more qualified candidates for any of them even if his defensive tendencies contradict the alleged "small-ball" approach currently being hailed around the league.
I read the press conference was planned by the Rockets PR to address the rumor. Most likely he'll announce he'll be staying on. Just first couple extracts from Google News. "Rockets spokesman Nelson Luis said on Sunday that Van Gundy would hold a press conference on Monday" "The Rockets are not saying anything on such a decision, other than that Van Gundy will have a press conference on Monday."
yes thats from yesterday today it should be official "JVG retires: personal and mental problems an issue?!"
The personnel decisions you speak of were Carroll Dawson's and not JVG's. As for stubborness to make adjustments, I can see some validity in that position but be advised that Jerry Sloan was equally stubborn in this series particularly how he defensed Yao and it worked out OK for him. In the end, I cannot fault him for dancing with what brung him to the playoffs. One man's negativity is another man's refreshing truth...
