JVG completely took away yao's mid-range game and made him into a back-to-the-hole robot. Yao would clog the lane and make it more difficult for TMac. JVG's system is just so static and predictable.

    Change is good.

Anyone that wants Larry Brown must be clueless to the type of ball he plays...very similar to Van Gundy. I would love to have either Adelman or Silas. Silas knows how to bring out the dog in players. Adleman would be good because he seems like a players coach and always had a great bench with the Kings.

Why would camp out further from the basket? He has enough trouble getting rebounds and being a presence in the paint.

If it wasn't obvious enough, I was talking about the offensive end.

Report: Van Gundy to Leave Rockets
According to a report in the NEW YORK POST, and expanded upon by ESPN.COM, "Saturday's Game 7 loss to the Jazz was the last for Jeff Van Gundy as the Houston Rockets' coach ... Citing an 'impeccable source,' The Post reported that Van Gundy is leaving NBA coaching for the forseeable future. According to the source, Van Gundy's decision isn't based on the first-round series loss to the Jazz."

Not to mention set up Red Rowdies single-handedly, 50x season ticket = several hundred thousand dollar, how generous was that?

JVG may not be the best coach in the league, but I haven't seen any other NBA coach shown this much love and commitment to his team.

I am also deeply hurt by our defeat this season, but I still insist that we were more than lucky to have JVG on our team. No matter what his decision will be, I would always love this coach and wish him all the best

My faith in God will be renewed if Van Gumby leaves the Rockets.

Wasn't that year the time period when the term "UGLY BALL" was coined. I doubt that is what we want to see here.

JVG's a great coach, but his defense can only take him as far as his offense let's him. Poor spacing when feeding the post, not developing any of the players with potential, placing priority on size over skill (except this year; see Chuck Hayes) are just some of the areas JVG needs to get over himself about. He needs to realize that his defensive scheme is great, but it's not perfect. Good luck to JVG if he is indeed stepping down.

The next coach should be Rudy T since he probably has a playbook full of feeding the big man. On top of that, he expanded that same playbook to include plays for a bonified 2-guard. Hire Rudy T, he'll then take Mario Elie as his assistant and groom him to be his replacement. maybe... haha

Looks like we agree much more than we disagree here. Not sure exactly how much influence JVG had on acquiring all of these players (I would be surprised if he had any say on Bonzi). But he is the man responsible as the head coach. As for VSpan, I simply don't think he has much of an NBA game and don't believe his failures are due to JVG.

I hate to cut in on your JVG Hatefest but I feel the need to point out that V-Span is a turnover machine who couldn't fall out of a boat and hit water while Snyder proved to be incapable of understanding the Rockets' offensive and defensive systems which is the prime reason NO let him go because he couldn't pick up their systems either.

In the NBA, a coach is only as good as his players. The blame has to start with them. JVG did an unbelievable job winning this season when both Yao & Tmac went down but that's just confusing the situation with the facts. To which you say...

Which games were you watching? They did play zone against Utah. It just didn't work. As for developing players, JVG's job was to win as many games as possible and not try to develop marginal NBA players put on the roster by a GM who couldn't find his own ass while locked in a closet with a flashlight and both hands. To me it appears that JVG's greatest failing in your eyes was his inability to turn chicken sh*t into chicken salad.

I'm all for engaging in a little hyperbole here and there but if you SERIOUSLY believe that Spanoulis, Novack, Lucas & Snyder are of the caliber as the guys you listed, you have made a serious break with reality here. OK, that's all I have to say - we now return you DaDakota's "I Hate JVG Marathon" currently in progress...

Which games were YOU watching?? They didn't come close to playing zone under JVG, never in 4 yrs.

JVG deserves most of the blame for this, not only the inferior style of play, they way he used our good players, and for the shaping of the roster. Terrible.

Playing time solves all of those issues.

Some coaches get more out of players, ala Rudy T vs Don Chaney.

They played zone? WTF? They played his rotation defense but that is hardly a zone.....if it was a ZONE, Yao would have never had to cover a PnR.

My point is we don't know whether they are that good or not, but we do know that V-Span was far more accomplished coming into the league than a 19 year old Dirk Nowitski or a 19 year old Tony Parker....who both struggled but their teams stuck with them because they knew in the long run it would help the franchise.

JVG is gone.....GONE.......which is good...and next year when basically the same cast of players acheive more...I hope you will remember this thread.

It actually HAS worked out at times. All of his big games come when he is scoring in close. It just didn't vs. Utah.

Anyway - there's very little similarity between him and Brad Miller. We vastly overestimate Yao's passing ability, and let's face it, he's ponderously slow, whereas Miller at least possessed average speed an quickness. On the other side, as a back to the basket post player, he was good verging on awesome, when he wants to be, while Miller was garbage.

Yes but he would be ery nice for our situation, he took a good Detroit team that won 50+ games under Rick Carlisle that didn't win in the playoffs, and took them to championship, and was one Robert Horry 3 away from back to back titles.

The Rockets are a good 50 win team under JVG, Larry Brown could probably get them to win a title in 1 or 2 yrs if we add a PG and a PF, and one other scorer off the bench.
