He doesn't "make **** up" any more than any other so-called "insider". Vecsey is a shark and lot of times he might be a bit too eager to break a story or get a scoop, but more often than not he DOES know his ****. If nothing else, he knows pretty much everything that goes on in NYC or has to do with NewYorkers, he obviously has a lot of connections in that community.

How so? Please elaborate, I might have missed something. I actually think his basketball analysis is pretty good, but he is more of a guy who hears chatter all the time and has tons of 'telltales' and stories to share from way back when.

Again, he rubs people the wrong way because he's a "call 'em as you see 'em" type of guy. He doesn't venture too much into the non-sense like trying to be diplomatic with people to get the story. I can definitely see why he isn't easy to swallow by the average basketball fan, he's simply too aggressive and too inconsiderate.

Again, that's partly why I like him...

Again, that's the freakin' nature of the job. ALL insiders are like that, they hear stuff all the time and much of it is untrue or intentionally misleading (don't think for a second that they're not used by GMs/players/agents/coaches to spread false rumors when it serves their interests). Their job is more or less to pass on what they hear from 'sources'; comes with the territory.

So again, tell me who doesn't? How does that differentiate him from the rest? May be you just have a general problem with the nature of the business they're in.

But again, if nothing else his columns are funny as hell, he certainly has a peculiar sense of humor, one which I personally enjoy. I understand it's not for everyone, however.

I don't drink, but I might have to if the Rockets continue to be the joke of a franchise they've been for a decade running now...so thanks for the suggestion.

Forgive my ignorance but I don't see TT taking this team to the finals and winning a championship. I know you're kidding but that wouldn't be a popular move if you're trying to speed the game up.

I'm a new yorker and I love JVG. But, I think a new coach is in order. The offense that worked so well with Ewing and the Knicks just don't work anymore. Back then, ewing would be isolated 1 on 1 and get the easy catch, then comes the double team. With the current defense allowed, you will be swarmed before the catch, we'll get a turnover before the catch.

Utah had their big men Okur out to the 3 point line and is doing well. Sloan is using Okur to his talents, not to what Sloan wants. Yao is an average rebounder, average blocker, good post up, and great shooter. He is probably our best shooter. Yao is limited by his stamina. There is no reason why Yao should bang on every posession. All that banging leads to fatique and injury. Pull him out to the high post and let him shoot jumpers, pass the ball, and clear out the lane for T-mac to drive.

Everytime Yao post up, its like 33% chance it will be a turnover. JVG turned a multifaceted player into a slow, plodding, one dimensional player.

With a 2 time scoring champion and the best scoring big man in the game, I can't understand why this team is having so much trouble scoring. Too much focus on defense and not enough on their offensive talents.

I honestly believe Yao can play in a run and gun style. Instead of banging, he'll use his energy to run the floor. Four players can play the running game or wait for Yao to come back. T-mac with 3 other athletic running mates will rule.

JVG, love you man, but your style just won't hack it in this version of the NBA. Rick Adelman would be good for this team. Flip Saunders was an assistant coach with Pat Riley and JVG, so you'll get of the same with him.

You locals seem to love Elie. He is inexperienced and monotone. Takes him a long time to express his point. I'll fall asleep first before letting him finish his commentary. BAD.

Any case, Rockets needs a new direction. 2 superstars and 2 first round failures mean we need to move on.

Mike Dunleavy Sr. would be perfect as Rockets head coach!!! Too bad he signed a contract extension with the Clippers. Maybe he can get out of it!!!

    I finally woke up.

I didn't want to go to the BBS.

but i did. and this is the news i get.

    thats crazy. I love JVG.

If we do go in another direction, I hope we get somebody that doesn't suck. I'd like elie, but i don't think he's right for this team for some reason.

I don't know if we should go after a retread coach, or a new up and comer.

Let's face it, we are simply not good enough. Just take a look at the rosters of the Mavs, the Suns, the Spurs, and even the damn Jazz and their next round foe Worriors, except Mac, Yao, and Battier, whoelse would play in a 8-man rotation, let along to be starters.

It's heart broken. But JVG and his players did their best.

I'm almost positive he had a clause written in that allows him to just leave if he so wishes. Perhaps, someone can research it.

Otherwise, LA's gonna want compensation. ie 1st round draft pick.

guys, this is still all Vecsey. The ESPN report is Vecsey. Let's just wait and see..

I def. hope it isn't larry brown.. and I do hope it's Carlisle.

edit: that is, assuming JVG is gone. I've defended him a lot.. but i agree with a lot of the arguments and I'd be ok with him leaving now I Think..

Van Gundy not stepping down, but future with team unsure

Coach has a non-guaranteed season left on his contract, but owner hasn't decided if he will return or be fired

    By JONATHAN FEIGEN
    Copyright 2007 Houston Chronicle

Amid reports that Jeff Van Gundy would not return as Rockets coach, Van Gundy said Sunday he has not decided to step down and Rockets owner Leslie Alexander said he has not reached any decision about Van Gundy's future.

Van Gundy has one non-guaranteed season remaining on his contract.

Told that there has been speculation that he would fire Van Gundy, Alexander said, "That's totally false.

"There is absolutely no truth to that. That's false, totally false. That decision has not been made."

Van Gundy strongly denied he had reached a decision. He has often said that the decision about next season was not only the team's, but said Sunday that he has not decided to step down.

"I haven't even thought about that yet," Van Gundy said. "It's just 12 hours after we lost. There has been speculation about my job going on the whole year. Anybody that saying that (that he has chosen to step down as Rockets coach), I have no idea why they would say that.

"There is no significance to anything other than we lost. That's the only significant thing."

Asked if he has meetings with Rockets general manager Carroll Dawson, assistant general manager Daryl Morey or Van Gundy planned to discuss Van Gundy's future, Alexander said that answering any "volatile questions" would lead to more speculation, but would only say he has not made a decision.

"Jeff has talked to you about that, and he wouldn't lie," Alexander said. "And I told you I haven't made a decision and you know I have never lied to you. Both stories are untrue. There is no truth to this."

But while Van Gundy remained the Rockets on Sunday, a day after the Rockets were eliminated in the playoffs' first round, neither could say how long that would remain true.

    couldn't have said it better.

too much defense leads to not enough offense. it takes a lot of energy to play defense.

plus i am so bored of watching the same crap over and over..the only way to win is to adapt to the new league style which is obviously not jvg's.

heck our problem is not even that we can't score, it's that we can't score on a consistent basis.
