What's the deal w/ Russia? Some Russian co-workers said St. Petersburg is nice. I've also heard stories of how they act but nothing concrete.
misleading thread title. i thought there was a coup or something going on! mexico has always been corrupt and definitely seems like a powder keg. it would be crazy if the government just collapsed or was overthrown...would america be obligated to take it over? there were people after the mexican-american war who called annexing the whole country. i traveled/backpacked around mexico almost every year from 2000-2010. havent been since then, but i wouldnt hesitate to go again. youre probably more likely to get murdered in houston than anywhere in mexico!
Long term I agree with you. There are a lot of positive indicators. It likely won’t be in our lifetime, but I expect th level of corruption to fall greatly and the country to benefit from the eventual change in the US policy on drugs. There are a lot of very well educated and bright people in Mexico that have been hindered by the government and black market. The OP is a very odd poster. He very much has a Himmler vibe to him. A lot of his positions and speech patterns are Himmleresque.
I want to preface this by saying Russia has many different cultures and not all Russians are the same. Indeed I am surrounded by Russians because my wife is Assyrian and a few are old spetszna’s and they have in general been very good to my family. Having said that, here are my personal observations from having done business in Russian and having off and on spend a lot of time there: Russians are a very hardened people, they in general have hard lives and very much believe in might makes right. Their moral compass isn’t like the West. I found a lot of people to be very blunt, with limited manners and a strong pervasive machismo. Men in Russia strongly believe they can force women to do what they want. Drunken violence is common. Homosexuals are hated and there is a lot of repressed rage that tends to be expressed in severe violence. Corruption is very common and disagreements are usually physically settled. While some parts of Russian are beautiful, it tends to be very physically grueling with long bitter winters. I think the history of Russia plays a part as well. Historically the Russian people have had no voice, they have been breed to do as they are told by a central ruler... be it a King or dictator. There are many very bright people in Russia but culturally they bend to a strong leader. Russians are not a very happy people, but they are a very hard people. Their culture is overwhelmingly male dominated. So don’t expect to see a lot of friendly or happy people if you go. Avoid eye contact and realize that if you have a disagreement that there is a good chance it will end with you or the other guy beaten and passed out in the street. Also lots of drugs and prostitutes. Because of how I look and how I dressed (in suits) I constantly had Russian women offer me sex for drugs or money. Just say no.
I was thinking of taking a quick trip Tulum in late January or February - can you hire bodyguards to ensure your safety like Namibia?
But it wasn't a quasi narco state before the US got tough on the war on drugs. We are derelict for our disastrous war on drugs that has done nothing to change the tide of illegal drug use. The people in power in Mexico are responsible for their corruption, but we aid in it through war on drugs. We made it lucrative to become corrupt through creating a lucrative black market.
Sheinbaum, who hails from a family of Jewish scientists, studied physics at the National Autonomous University of Mexico, earning a doctorate in energy engineering and going on to work as a consultant for the United Nations. Hmmm...female, Jewish, educated, Mexican, "globalist"...no wonder you hate her. You are ten pounds of **** stuffed in a 5 lb sack.
The apartment building is on fire, but hey good news: your unit is doing just fine. Hunting for hidden graves in Mexico Families of Mexico's missing are searching for hidden mass graves as escalating cartel violence puts the country on track to see both its highest murder rate and highest rate of disappearances since records began. 28,689 people were killed in Mexico in 2017, according to government statistics. That's the highest number ever recorded, and 2018 is setting a pace to be even more deadly. ...
