I hope Rudy is a bust so all you Gay fans can stop bringing him up in every single thread.

This has me feeling a lot better. I kept seeing these Ginobli comparisons and I didn't see that at all. I'd be very happy if he could be like Sura for us.

    Most contracts are progressive

So lets say it 3 year for 5 mil

1st year would be like 1.2mil, second year would be like 1.7, and third would be like 2.1.

Oh. I thought you knew something we didn't. See m-cable's FAQ for what is most likely the contract amount. I think your annual salary increases are off. Thanks for the analysis, though.

Van Gundy is a great teacher of the game, is a master at understanding spacing and position and his practice of having to earn your minutes is probably a good thing, though he can be too stringent about it even to the point of hurting a player`s development, or conversely, in the case of Bowen, over utilizing a player that yes, has hustle, but does not have skill and hurts the development of the team.

However, I do not think you can credit JVG for Yao finally learning to assert himself upon a game like we saw him do from the All Star game forward. That goes to Yao himself and his character and those working closest to him who enabled him to see himself as the one player who, in light of all the injuruies, had the ability to step up, play with abandonment, and carry his team on his back.

Its a new season and we have reason to have hope and I am not ready to start dissing JVG, just pointing out what I believe is missing in his style is positive motivation...like a Riley, Rudy, D`Antoni. I wish we could see more of the JVG we saw in the second half of the Dallas Playoff season of two years ago, which may have been his best days ever as far as molding individual players into a team...

The Rockets have hitched their wagon to Vasilis Spanoulis' rather than Mike James and I've been hearing the murmuring out there among fans who believe this is a fallback plan that won't work. I'm not fluent in Vasilis Spanoulis' game, but I've had the chance to watch him internationally and believe he is better than you think.

From what I've seen, here's a guy who is big enough (6-4) to defend most guards, is smart with the ball (i.e., not a lot of turnovers) and can rebound on both ends of the floor. Guards who rebound are a huge plus. I know a lot of people have been saying he will be a minor contributor and slight help, if at all. I disagree.

Luther Head should be nervous. Spanoulis, in my view, takes Head's minutes and does more with them.

I spoke with an NBA GM this week who believes the Rockets will be better off with Spanoulis over James if only because of unselfishness. As much as James would have been a better pick-up in many ways, he also would have wanted it all, taking shots away from Tracy McGrady and Yao Ming. Spanoulis will take only what's given to him.

Yeah, those raises are definitely off. With an MLE signing, you can only do raises of 8%, and they don't compound, so it's 8% off the first year salary. If he's making 5 million flat over 3 years, it would be closer to $1.55/1.65/1.75 million (give or take ten thousand here and there). But the chron says that it's more than 5 million. So I'm assuming that it'll be closer to $5.5 million over 3 years which comes out to a starting salary of about $1.7 million, which puts our leftover MLE at $3.5 million.

going by your post we would have....

    Yao/Deke
    Evans/Hayes
    Tmac/Battier/Snyder/Novak
    Sjax/Battier/Jones
    Alston/JL3/*VSpan

Our starting line-up gurantees us a first round win...the second round goes to game 7 and we lose or win, but we lose in WCF (maybe).

*Its odd that many posters feel that our PLAN D PROJECT is supposed be the next Manu or even be our final piece.

I definately agree. That is a team with the caliber to compete. It seems like a realistic senario. I wish Dawson was reading this.

Jeff is not going to plan V span, so cool your jets on this cat, FYI, I spoke to JL III last night at the ProCity Summer League at Fonde and he said the deal with the Rockets was good as done.

Heh...those who kept arguing about whether he would get more minutes than Lucas ought to read this. This guy might actually be a bigger, stronger and better version of Luther Head. I wonder why it never occurred to me that way.
