If he's a bust, I'm not sure it would be an idictment of the Rox scouting ability. It looks to me like he is their last resort since they couldn't get James, or Banks. I think they were very hesitant to give him that contract, but they need some warm bodies at this point. Hopefully, we can get lucky and he'll be better than they expect.

I agree....If they were so sure on him, they would have signed him a few weeks ago..since they don't have any other options, they signed him...if they would have gotten James or banks, i dont' think this signing would have occurred.....

also, it is rumored (on NBA.com) that since the suns got banks, they are not interested in keeping Eddie House...Couldn't we use him as a 3 ball shooter..i didn't watch ALOT of Suns games last year but the several that I did watch (includign one against the rockets where he hit like 5 3- pointers) he seems like a body we could use...if we get him for cheap...

To me,the best guard to come out of Europe is Drazen.
Now,VSpan has a different game, and might very well become more than a role player, but I can't put him in that class....yet.
Don't get me wrong,I think VSpan has a John Stcokton / Surunas Marcelionis thing going and want him to be great for us.
I'll be happy with a role player on a title team though.

Chuck Hayes is the best post up defender we have on this team.

Everyone keeps compating Kill Bill to manu, well I have only seen 3 games of his, last year in the Euroleague playoffs on NBATV.

He looked a lot more like Steve Nash than he did Manu.

I think Rockets fans will pleasantly surprised.

I dont like eddie house. He has a wild game and comes in and seemingly shoots at will, not necessarily within the context of an offense. With the suns that works cuz no shot is a bad shot on that team. I dont see how that fits in with this team though, plus I dont think he knows what offense is.

On a side note, anyone know why it is taking JL3 so long to sign. I doubt the suns are after him anymore now that they got Banks. Is he holding out for a better deal, or is it cuz the Rox are trying to see what else they may be able to do trade or signing wise.

Seeing how since John Lucas in 86 made his unfortunate mistake, our track record of grooming solid PG's has been anything but promising, V-Span not only this year but in years to come may accidentally buck the trend. Lately, either the people we get are young and immature ie: Francis or we get guys who were solid but breakdown because of injuries ie: Sura. I hope bad Bobby comes back and has a hell of a year. But, we must face the possibility ... not so promising.

Remember every good team has to have a good quarterback. The Rockets if they are surmount the top of the heap in the conference must become an overall better passing team. That means someone to create, improvise, break down the defense and drive it to the hole.

Nash with the Suns. J-Kidd with the Nets. Maybe V-Span can be our answer to Tony Parker with the Spurs. Who knows? The tape shows he's not a scrub. The only question is can be adapt to and fully integrate into an NBA quality player or even a star? We shall see.

What free agents flocked here during the Rudy area? Rudy constantly had his hand in the CBA basket.

I know most won't agree with this but....Why is houston doing this? Firstly and obviously even IF bob sura comes back he won't even be half of what he used to be and considering the rockets in reality only have one proven pg in rafer why bring in somewhat of a project in VSPAN and sign another unproven player in JL3 instead of targeting people that have acctually proven something in this leauge. If CD doesn't work some type of trade in which we acctually can bring a true solid pg instead of trying to convert head's game and hoping for the longshot of VSPAN becoming the next manu...looking at those video clips he is much slower than manu and needs to obviously refine his game more than the rockets are in trouble. Look at teams like miami, SA, DET, they all have solid pg's and if you look at us we are not even close to that. Sure we have tmac and yao but we need some pg's to give the ball to them and we needs pg's that can hit opoen shots....last time I checked rafer was still throwing up bricks and....can vspan acctually shoot?

This is one reason why they should've kept Gay. That front office is confused.

HOUSTON -- The Houston Rockets on Wednesday signed Greek guard Vassilis Spanoulis, who was acquired in a draft-day trade two years ago and has been playing overseas since.

The 6-4, 195-pound Spanoulis signed a multiyear contract at undisclosed terms. However, Greek media reports said the deal is worth $2.4 million over four years.

Spanoulis, 24, reportedly was making $428,000 with Panathinaikos of the Greek League. His contract included a buyout of roughly $300,000.

"A couple of years ago, we drafted Vassilis based on his potential to develop into an NBA-caliber player," Rockets general manager Carroll Dawson said. "Over the past two seasons, he has shown steady improvement playing overseas and we believe he will be a good addition to our roster this season."

Spanoulis was taken 50th overall in the 2004 draft by the Dallas Mavericks, who traded his rights to Houston for the rights to fellow second-round pick Luis Flores.

A member of Greece's 2004 Olympic team, Spanoulis helped Panathinaikos win the Greek National League title and Greek National Cup this year. He also led Greece to the 2005 Eurobasket crown.

He was impressive in the Euroleague, the most competitive basketball circuit outside the NBA. He averaged 15.1 points and 3.1 assists while shooting 61 percent from the field in 23 games as Panathinaikos just missed the Final Four.

"The coaches there did a great job of preparing him for the next step in his career," Dawson said. "He is a big guard with a good outside shot and the ability to penetrate the lane."

That is a big time mistranslation/typo. 4 years at $2.4 million IS LESS THAN THE MINIMUM (4 year minimum works out to about $2.7 million). I trust the Chronicle's 3 year over $5 million figure.

I wish we could have got Banks and a power foward who rebounds and has some size. How many Euros have contributed right away? Not many. I don't think he'll improve the Rockets this year.

Whether it's $2.4 million or $5 million, neither deal will be heavily front loaded. We should still have $4 million of our MLE to throw at FA's.
