tbh I'd want my kid to grow up around some rich, well connected kids... lol they can be spoiled, whatever. But start with values and theres no where to go but up for a kid in that situation
anyone done the drive from vancouver to Banff, Lake Louise and maybe even columbia glacier.... thoughts and advice appreciated also what's best area of vancouver to stay?
I stayed on Granville St. in the heart of the bar district. I got a deal at the Comfort Inn for $70 CN a night. I got a pretty nice room, in a great location at a great rate. The only drawback would be if you're not into the party scene the area around there is very busy and loud at night.
why? Seattle is beautiful during the Spring/Summer. So much to do there: Mount Rainer, Pikes Market, Space Needle (where the old Key Arena /Sonics arena is located), Puget Sound, Fremont Troll, etc. Not to mention mar1juana. Your statement makes zero sense
Forgot how much I paid (wanna say $250/night? ) but I stayed at the Pinnacle Hotel in the city of North Vancouver, right by the pier that had a passenger ferry to connect with Downtown Vancouver. They also offered free bicycles that we were able to carry onto the Ferry. There's so much to do and see in Vancouver as a tourist during the Spring and Summer. Well worth a trip. Just don't go to Chinatown or Downtown Eastside
I did the drive from Vancouver to Columbia Glacier/Banff/Lake Louise in 9-10 days. Besides some really nice pictures and hiking, I just remember driving 4-6hrs a day. Vancouver -> Kamloops -> Golden -> Banff -> Hinton -> Kamloops -> Vancouver
We went from Whistler to Vancouver to White Rock (gorgeous btw) to Seattle and then back. I love Vancouver. If I had an employment opportunity there, I would leave everything behind and take that chance. IMO it's well worth it!
It was fun to read the thread. Great city. Like another poster hung around for a week after an Alaskan cruise out of Vancouver. If I thought I was going back I wouln't give you this name. Hotel Sylvia on on the beach at English Bay and close to enough action. Old but fantastic. Can't be beat.
I think what the OP was trying to get at is Vancouver is essentially a better version of Seattle. I agree with his assessment.
This I would disagree with. Culturally, they are quite different cities. Seattle has a lot of Japanese influence and more hip hop culture, not to mention the influence of Microsoft hq nearby. Vancouver you got a lot of hippie Canucks and a big assortment of Asian immigrants (India, China, Korea, and Taiwan mostly).
Many of those immigrants in Vancouver from India, China, Korean, and Taiwan partake in hip hop culture. I've never associated Seattle with hip hop.
I always felt that they are very similar but Vancouver is more Asian, but just as hippie as each other
super, what do you reckon would be the least amount of days you could do it.... need to fly east at some point.... seems like seattle is cheapest but trying to get a flight before good friday on easter weekend as prices seem go up big time..... have done long drives before..... could you knock off the drive back in on hit?
Sure you could. The days included time spent checking out Vancouver and some other Canadian national parks. Google shows it's a 9-10hr drive from Vancouver to Banaff. Columbia Icefields is about a 4hr drive out of the way plus time spent there. I would say 4 days, 3 nights minimum. Maybe cut another day if your skipping the Icefields.
