Van Halen last toured in 2004 with vocalist Sammy Hagar, grossing nearly $40 million, according to Billboard Boxscore. Hagar refused to collaborate further with Eddie and Alex Van Halen after the tour's completion. FWIW Hagar is taking 2007 off, except for a handful of shows at Cabo Wabo and of course the RnR Hall Fame induction. My bet is that Hagar is waiting for Roth and EVH to go nukulur, so he could do the White-Knight-over-the-hill thing to bail out the VH sold out tour.
I prefer DLR Van Halen, Van Hagar was good but there was too many love songs. If the tour comes to H-town, I am there.
Doesn't Sammy have the Van Halen bassist in his band now? I caught his show on HDNet one day and seemed like that was him in the band. I was shocked.
I gave up on this "reunion" years ago. It's happening about 10 years too late if you ask me. It should have happened after they reunited at the MTV Music Awards (or whereever) but they couldn't even stand on stage together then without pissing each other off. So, I'm not going cause I just don't give a flying f*ck about any incarnation of VH. I bet they still suck now even with DLR. Are they going to tour without a new album? If so, then that's even lamer. Is this the "Me Wise Magic" tour we never got?
Not in the band, but on tour. When MA comes out mid show, they label themselves "The Other Half" which EVH hates with a passion.
I'll watch the video boot or the concert DVD. That's about as close as I will get to going to this show. Reunion tours for the sake of reunion tours are crap. They should at least try to create some new music and tour with that. It would be interesting to see what they come up with that is new. If I liked any new stuff they put out and they toured on it, then I might go. As far as seeing them play the same old hits they played back in 1984 when they were still together, I would rather take a long nap. I think the show will be interesting for a little bit just to two see the two arch enemies (EVH vs DLR) back on stage together. I predict those guys don't go anywhere near each other's dressing rooms while not on stage. I'm more curious to see if they can get along for a whole 50 show tour or they will be relegated to their own little groups only to unite on stage. I guess that begs the question of "have they individually matured enough to get along and tour?". EVH may have grown up about 20 years since he finally dealt with his alcoholism. DLR is still probably the same goofy ass he's always been. Wolfgang may be the presence that is needed to keep those two in check. As far as I know, Alex doesn't have a voice in anything. I've never heard the guy speak. lol. I'm sure this tour will be successful...probably even sold out everywhere you turn. The allure of the old VH is too great for most of the older fans.
Van Halen needs to do this, have it blow up, and then they should go the Santana route and have no official lead singer but still release new material.
Mine too. That's the problem though: the early 80s were 25 years ago! We're talking a quarter-century here. After a while, old guys trying to "rock" like young guys starts to look pathetic. Even acts like Aerosmith have toned down a lot of the over-the-top theatrics. VH could make a small comeback, but not as a big arena rock band. I just don't think they've got the chops any more.
Thats great news (though it is 5-10 years too late). And I'm not even a Van Halen fan. This is something that people just want to see done, even if they were all 50 pounds overweight and drugged out. I'd agree with some of that. Early 80's true (and actually 30 years since they first started) but its more the type rock and particular genre of music than how long ago it was in this case. Mellower types of music like R&B, country & blues they can go on until they get senile. Arena rock there's a much shorter time frame for when they stop looking "cool" (ex: Loverboy). That hasnt stopped Def Leppard from touring And I think people genuinely like the Van Halen songs and will be forgiving of lack of electric stage presense just to hear the original people do it again
