Why are you guys so surprised? Yao had a similar ending last season. He became less effective when the end of the season in in sight.

However, I am not sure why some people want tot Rox to reverse their game plans. If my memory serves me right, the Rox did just this last season when they saw Yao's game becoming less effective. Coach Larry Smith benched Yao and relied on Cato at the center position. But did that help Yao and/or the Rox? We all agreed that it did not help. Not only that, but many thought Larry caused Rox's first appearance in the playoffs and Yao's ROY reward.

Losing is frustrating. But do not let that get under your skin ...

Although Yao has made some big improvements this year and has shown some real flashes of greatness, I think it is an EXTREME exageration to say that he's been a "constant". In fact, his lack of consistency offensively is probably what's been hurting us the most during this losing streak. We run our offense through him and expect him to carry a team, but he's just not able to do that on a night-in night-out basis. No knock on him...he's young and I think he'll get there. I just think that we may be relying on him too much too early.

Maybe Yao is a constant at 15-8 ...

I think I know where Gundy gets some of his ideas:

    http://coachlikeapro.tripod.com/basketball/id5.html

    5. Pass away from the defense. Always know where the defense is, and pass away from it. Use two-handed grip as a passer.

    13. Try to make three passes before attempting a shot, other than a lay-up opportunity.

    14. Catch-and-face. Anytime that we receive the basketball, we face the basket in the triple threat position.

    15. Always look to go inside first, before shooting outside shots! Our first objective every time down the floor is to go inside. We like for our post to touch the ball before any shots are taken.

    21. Set tough, hard screens. Set your screen on the defender's numbers (headhunt). The screener should remain in a stationary position for a two count.

    22. Always receive the screen late - Wait! Wait! Wait! Wait for the screener to jump stop and say your name before you begin your v-cut to get open.

I feel your frustrattion Amed. But the Rox as a team have problems, its not just one person. I dont know what KVG gonna do, but he better figure something out by the playoffs

    steve "friggin" fancy... that's funny.

there's nothing wrong with the offense running through yao ming because he's the best shooter on the team. his FG% is the highest. what stop our offense from flourishing is our outside shooting. what's wrong with SF cuz he can't make an outside shot this year. we need great shooters to keep teams away from yao so that he has room to operate.

yao gotta step up defensively cuz nobody from trop murphy to speedy claxton is afraid of him. everybody takes the ball to the hole and shoots over the great wall from china.

Agreed, he gotta do something, like mess up someone in the face or something a coupla times. At the very least it will make people think twice before challenging him

I wathced the replay of last night's game.

Yes, our offense is in trouble, it is always in this season. It is our defense that is killing us of late.

I like yao but it was funny to see the smallest player in the league earl boykins drive in on the second tallest player in the league and shoot up over him. I'm 6'3 and I would personally send earl shot back to china. then other night someone drove and yao swiped downwardly and i have to agree with tolbert yao has to meet those at the rim. If yao doesn't get some balls i don't care who takes over, this is a new season and everyone has a clean slate, this is a mans game and money time, so who cares about who takes the most shots.

Let's trade Yao for Moochie so we can move Cato back to C and have more of that great 3 guard small ball offense that was so effective in the past.

Well, the GREAT YAO MING OFFENSE is winning us the same number of games and scoring fewer points while doing it. So by the numbers, small ball has been more effective, you own personal taste not withstanding.

Sure! Even when Yao is on bench, his offense is killing every of us on court. ;)

When he is the bench the other players have lost thier offensive rythem and have no flow in thier game casuse when Yao was in the game. all they did was dump it in and then stand and watch.

it boils down to the fact that we have got to have an offense that allows someone other than yao to be an effective scorer. the offense we ran with hakeem, which is very close to the one we run now, would not be nearly as effective in a league that allows the zone. teams can run a 2/3 zone and cover yao with two players while stretching their deense across the perimeter. i wonder if one of the reasons we have been so futile on O is that JVG is not used to coaching against the zone? i would love to see us run a combination of LAL and SA offense that would allow Yao to get touches close to the hoop but keep the other post out on the floor allowing the ball to be swung around and shot OR penetrated.

The only thing this team lacks is spacing, and that can only be fixed with a very good shooter who's not a major liability.

People like Pike and Bullard are good for the bench, but when you have a good post player like Yao, it's always best to have an excellent shooter who's not just a shooter.

Ray Allen, Micheal Redd, and Rashard Lewis would be tremendous additions to this system.

Why do we argue about our offense when our bigger probelm is the defense. We'd have won at least FIVE more games, locked into 7th seed if we had played the same defense as we did during the first half of the season.

Yes, we have problems on offense, but we have averaged more points since the all-star break. Our biggest problem is we just cannot hold the opponents down. IMO, JVG's short rotation is really huring the team right now due to those big minutes the starters have logged.

It appears as tho' Catos complete lack of offense actually stimulates double teams on Yao, a wide open lane, and more ball movement.
