Games like yesterday just show how much of a joke it was that jvg finished 4th in coach of the year voting.
JVG got out coached in the fact that Utah came out there, running at Yao and aggravating him the whole game. We didn't have a different philosophy on how to stop this, or what to do to them. But we really don't need to do anything diff on the defensive end, we're doing fine there. Yao has to be more prepared sat night, and he willl be once he watches the game tape.
Did you watch the game? I don't care what JVG said, I saw Juwan have 4 or 5 looks from the elbow that were wide open. I saw Shane Battier in the corner without a defender within 10 feet of him. We are getting many of the same looks that the team has gotten all year. Utah is still sending extra defenders at Yao and TMac, so they aren't staying at home on our shooters. It isn't Utah's defense that has dropped Luther's 3pt shooting almost .400 points, he is just having a cold stretch. It happens.
JVG didn't get outcoached, our role players just got outplayed. Pathetic excuse to call him out for that. Yeah, it really is joke to base his coaching capability/performance on ONE game
Juwan Howard when he catches and shoots immediately(in the famous rhythm so many folks talk about) = 50% shooter. Juwan Howard when he has to adjust, pumpfake, dribble, double clutch, or think = 10% shooter. Luther Head on 3's when he catches and shoots immediately(in rhythm) = 50% Luther Head on 3's when he is yo-yoing, pumpfaking, adjusting, moving, or thinking = 20% The Rockets had some open looks, but they werent the in rhythm looks they are accustomed to. Now, Battier had about 3 or 4 of those, and 3 went in. Head may have had one, and he missed. Howard only had one shot where he caught and shot in rhythm, and missed.
It's meaningless to focus on specific plays, or specific players, or even specific games, but when a team as a whole shot the ball as bad as we have done so far, there ought to be some problem with the system. Solid defense is great, but at the end, you still need to make more shots to beat the other team. You cannot beat a playoff team consistently by shooting under 40%, which is what we are doing.
Anyone expects JVG will win a championship with the Rockets is unreal. How can a coach with 2 superstars but he keeps on breaking the worst playoff records of the Rockets to accomplish the mission?
Nobody showed up. T-mach flashed in the 1st qtr and then disappeared. Our bench didn't help. Yao had a mediocre game. And, we lost. I don't blame JVG. When our guys were playing like dirt, he could not do anything.
I never understand why people are so quick to make posts like this after one loss. If he was badly outcoached in this loss, doesnt that mean he must have outcoached Sloan in the first two games. Where is the JVG dominated Sloan in game one by limiting Boozer and Okur to nothing post. Where is the JVG dominated Sloan in game two by letting Boozer go off, but not letting Okur get going post. We lost one game, on the road, where everyone played like crap. Plain and simple.
Agreed - very cold shooting - cannot coaching compensate for coldness-while yao was getting beaten bloody
Why is zero bench points the coach's fault? Head's been in a slump all on his own. Juwan is missing his shots. Snyder? Dikembe? Not JVG's fault.
He even not prepare foe it, if he is a smart coach he will design some plane for penetration and use defferent players on the court. we all know our 3s are not consistent and tmac sometimes got cold(he is ok cuz he can pass and drive to the rim). as a good coach he should have more on 3 pointer shooters and the guys can drive to the rim. I mean he can use Novak to shoot some 3s(but now he already killed this kids' confidence and he can not hit it anymore on the court). How about vspan, we, as fans, all know he can drive to the rim and handle the ball(yes, his TO a little bit higher but when he attack the rim at least we have chance to score), Jeff just tight our own hands and make his own option less. that's not stubbern that's s tu pi d. So now Jeff, when Tmac not on the court please give this guy some play time, at least when we know our shooter are cold. JVG sucks.
The Rockets are going to win and lose with Luther Head. We have homecourt advantage, we are where we are because of the play of Luther Head. He's a big part of our success. We are talking about the same player who has shot 50 + percent the last 15 games before the playoffs began. he's in a slump. It happens. You don't just scratch it for one game... that would really really F Luthers psyche up. Absolutely you can not do that. Luther HAS to HAS to start making again. and he will. I just dont think you can say "well Heads been so bad, why not go with Snyder in that situation even for one game, and then if it works out great if not go back to Luther" you can't do that. I dont think thats a smart thing to do at all. You are going to quit on what got you there and show that you dont believe in his game because of three games, three games! you just cannot do that.
Funny, I wonder where these posts were after Game 2. People act like the Rockets never lost a playoff game during their championship runs.
Yeah, what a joke. He only has the Rockets up 2 games to 1 in the playoffs. Again, where were you after Game 2? And if the Rockets win Game 4 will you be around to trash Van Gundy?
