This is how boring the offseason is this year, we have been reduced to willingly listen to JVG talk just to hear about Rockets news.... how sad.

    a) true, but makes no difference in this debate

    b) tmac was out for huge parts of head's rookie year, he played out of necessity

What are consistent minutes then? And who else did we have have playing consistent minutes then? Who was starting/backing up?

I honestly don't recall with clarity so please remind me.

Also, did anyone catch this exchange:

    Russell Baxter: "Coach Gundy."

JVG: "Yeah, the 'Van' is always optional."

    Awesome.

JVG should be the regular co-host.

I've posted on this a bunch - the guy was playing anywhere from 15-30 minutes per game with a healthy backcourt within his first two games and only logged a handful of DNP-CD's all season. It's in the game logs and box scores.

So then is the Cfans.net opinion that this is hypocrisy on JVG's part, or are there valid reasons for why Head played consistent minutes 2 seasons ago, while Vspan didn't last season?

my guess (I stress guess) is that Head could actually make an open jumpshot, while VSpan really could not.

Fortunately, he can improve upon that, but it sounds like it will happen in Greece or in his backyard

I'm not sure why it would be hypocrisy. Head played better in 0506 than spanoulis did in 0607 - and he didn't even play particularly well. In fact he was rather mediocre, if you run the numbers. But Spanoulis was just so bad it was a level below.

In addition - Head as a rookie didn't have to compete with Head as a sophomore for PT - which spanoulis did.

Also you have to consider - after years in college playing at a high level and playing in the US for years, - Head was simply more NBA-ready than Spanoulis ...who apparently can't go 20 feet away from his mom without crying .. and hence didn't have as many adjustment issues.

vspan sucked, head was atleast decent and could hit an open jumpshot.

no two rookies are the same, thus playing time is given on an individual basis. van gundy doesn't stray from that.

i think van gundy prefers players who have experience and limits their mistakes but a broad brush like "he won't play rookies" is flat out wrong. if he had a rookie lebron james, he would have played him.

I'm confused: Did a rift with mgmt over VSpan's PT occur because Les thought he was right, or did mgmt read this bbs and mindlessly follow the crowd wrt VSpan's PT.

Les, "Coach, our marketing research shows that the fans want to see VSpan play."

JVG, "hmm, what happened to the marketing research that shows Wins bring in the fans?"

Les, "are you questioning me, because (I didn't want to tell you this), but my same research shows that most fans want to FIRE JVG!!!!!"

JVG, "I may be short, but I'm still taller than you."

Les, "Oh Yeah! I have more hair!"

    JVG, "Yeah, so did Napolean."

It didn't help when Yao himself questioned JVG's game 7 decision making and speculated whether bringing along the rookies would've helped later on.

IIRC even Clyde was questioning JVG during the game. They knew the guy was going to get the axe. The Rockets losing in the 1st round turned out to be the final nail in the coffin. The Rockets aren't going to contend for title next year but at least it won't be a drag to watch the games with Gundy gone.

Wow. So you're cool with not contending, so long as we run around a lot and Adelman is more cheerful than JVG?

    WTF?

Other than Tmac & Yao, JVG has had absolute **** to work with.
