I was impressed with VSpan's handles as well. His crossover seemed to beat his ddenfender almost everytime, but he was also called for traveling for some of them. He just has to adjust a little more to the NBA rules. Although he needs to cut down those silly turnovers, I was also impressed with his passing. He hit Chuck hayes below the basket a few times, but he couldnt make they layup. He defense seemed pretty decent too. he knocked a couple balls loose in the lane which let to turnovers for memphis. I think we'll see a big improvement by Christmas
Everyone needs to chill out on Van Gundy's quotes. He said they still have 19 days till it is time to make a decision and up to this point no one has emerged. What is so wrong with that statement, and who the hell brought up a trade.
Maybe we can get Mark Jackson out of retirment. If we're super lucky Kenny Smith can be signed for the vet league min.
I think Lucas will emerge. Our starting line-up is not great at shooting, and Lucas is a good shooter. Yao, Battier, T-Mac, Wells and Alston... Good shooting, but nothing amazing, no one who easily posts 40% shooting for the season, except maybe Battier. So we need Lucas to bring his shooting off the bench... As well as Novak, Head, Snyder... It should be good being able to insert a shooter at any position on the floor.
It's only one freaking preseason game, JVG. V-Span only has been here for 1 month. Lucas has only played 13 regular games last season. Be more petient and dont trade for any old PG.
Udrih sucks. There is a reason he couldn't get PT in the playoffs and the Spurs had to turn to a broken down worthless NVE, and he is now behind no-J Jacque. Sometimes I think just because a guy is on the Spurs roster people around here think he is good. Udrih is not worth the roster spot or his 1 mil+ salary.
There is about a zero percent chance that we'll be making a trade for a backup PG. First of all, there is no one available. Secondly, both Billy and JL3 have guaranteed contracts so they won't be cut. Thirdly, there's no need for a 4th PG because as the Chron reported, TMac might spend considerable time at PG, so we'd be way overloaded that the position. Lastly, management has irreversibly turned the corner about developing players. Every move this off-season has yielded a currently productive player or a potentially productive player. No more Rod Stricklands, Charles Oakleys, Rick Brunsons. And none in the forseeable future.
Also I think V-Span has much more upside and game over Udrih. V-Span reminds me alot of Ginobli when he came over to the Spurs, he was always in Popavich's doghouse and hard to harness.
there will be no trade. this team doesn't need 4 pg's under contract, nor will they give up one of the youngters for a vet. until something changes: your backup PG is tmac. the person who subs in for rafer will be head.
i don't understand. jvg praises t-mac as possibly the best playmaker and decisionmaker in the entire league... why not just start Mac at the point along side Head at the 2 and just bring Rafaer off the bench? Am I missing something?
Give some of these guys a chance, after Alston, there is still Head, Bill, and JL3. If the backup each eat 5 minutes, then that should be enough. Let's wait another week or so. I actually thought Bill was pretty good the other night. His TOs were a little much, but it's his first game.
Head is going to get a fair amount of the minutes at the point, with T-Mac doing the primary ball-handling. He's a big upgrade from Rafer defensively, and while he's not much at setting the table for the team, he won't have to do that. It's not an ideal situation, but it can work.
I doubt we are ready for something like that. Those Pop/Manu clashes happening on the Rockets would send some people here into seizures.
